    Bread was a British television sitcom written by Carla Lane and set in Liverpool, about a close-knit working-class family. The BBC produced it, and it aired on BBC1 from May 1, 1986, until November 3, 1991. The series' ratings peaked at 21 million viewers in 1988.
    The series followed the extended Boswell family of Liverpool, who lived in the Dingle neighbourhood. The family was Catholic and working-class, and was commanded by Nellie Boswell, an acid-tongued matriarch who governed her family with an iron grip. Her children attempted to generate enough money (in English slang, "bread") to maintain the family through various criminal ways in the early episodes. Later series placed a greater emphasis on the protagonists' love lives and marriages, with less emphasis on earning money scams.

    Did Peter Howitt star in Sliding Doors ? I know he directed or produced it. I know you can’t put everything down he starred in but, I think one of his first roles after Bread was in “ Coasting “ on ITV, filmed in Blackpool. He starred as Eddie, a cockney wide boy who went from London to a funeral in Blackpool and had to stay there as some heavies were after him and his brother.

    I'm from Liverpool. Watched it when it was first on because there were only 4 channels and we would all watch whatever my parents watched at that time of day. Hate it now, awful stereotype of people from Liverpool.

      Well, Carla Lane (Romana Barrack) the writer, was born, bred & died in the Liverpool area.
      People tend to write about what they know.
      As regards "stereotypes" I take your point....But!.. Those of us in the real world know such families exist all over Britain.

    • @tazzatamania
      @tazzatamania 2 роки тому +1

      @@patagualianmostly7437 like I'm not in the real world? I was brought up not far from where that horrid programme was filmed so I'm only too aware of what goes on. Carla Lane may well be from the city but wasn't brought up around the poverty and had no clue what the reality was like so wrote from stereotypes.
