Pat Spillane was not impressed with the first half of Cavan v Fermanagh - "The game is called football....there is no skill involved in handpassing the ball to the man alongside you. This game of gaelic football has been infiltrated by a load of spoofers and bluffers with no experience in some cases of gaelic football. We've forgotten the basic principles of the game -- the catch and kick."

I agree with Pat but in all honestly if the weaker teams play an open game against the likes of Dublin they would be destroyed so what are they to do.

Pat is correct about the over reliance and over use of hand passing. This is supposed to be Gaelic FOOTball. But I think he's wrong about doing away with pre-game analyses of opponents because bringing back the FOOTball basics doesn't imply that modern opponent and game plan analyses don't still fit in, they're not mutually exclusive, they're compatible in fact.

I hate how people act as if GAA is the only game to have evolved into a "systematic" sport, the first task a coach needs to do is to create ways to win, be with free flowing football or a war of attrition, obviously like all sports methods will be developed in order to beat defensive play and will inevitably increase skill level in Gaelic football

Did you watch the Kerry game today?? They had 15 men behind the ball at one stage as highlighted by the Sunday Game!!! Shocking that you're blind to more counties than Ulster teams doing it.

Completely agree with Pat... and im from Tyrone. We have had 4 decent games this year (tyrone v donegal, dub v kildare, cork v kerry and dub v meath)

So sick of Ulster football...14 men behind the ball at all times is ruining GAA...Mayo, Kerry, Cork Dublin are trying to play the game as it was meant to be played but northern teams are ruining it!!! If an Ulster team wins GAA is over!!
