the original comic came out before the 1st movie the writer of it, James O'barr lost his wife by a drunk driver and with his depression wrote the comic in 1989
that name isnt mentioned enough. brandon brought eric to life but hes ultimately o barrs creation

It might be better in dolby vision most films is shot digtally because film is expensive due to inflation
Some films dolby vision has like 50% difference in shadows and lighting and stuff
Lionsgate is very pro dolby vision
Perfect example is 2019 joker watching it in 4k dolby vision properly is like watching it for the first time
Have you seen the mini docs about O Barr's life here on UA-cam? It wasn't just that tragic death that contributed to his depression... Dude had a crazy life..... Even before his wife died
His wife was like the one beam of light he had ... and then what happened happened.. and literally writing the comic WAS THE ONLY CATHARTIC means he had that actually worked to help him get closure.
Also James himself is a very .. reserved and almost comes off as a very shy guy in some ways ..you can see he's been very afflicted by all the events that have shaped his life...I highly suggest watching the video.

The John Wick Joker wannabe.... this take looks cringe and they shouldn't have used the name Eric Draven when this looks nothing like the graphic novel. Hard pass..... and that Auto-Tune ending of the trailer was so awful, Post Malone sucks......
I feel this would have a more receptive audience if it wasn't rebooting Eric Draven. I don't know why they're going back to a character that has all the baggage of the original movie. The premise of the franchise lets them use brand new characters. They didn't need to return to Eric Draven.
I agree there's no reason for them to even go back to eric when there's other crows they could have used this comes across more disrespectful then anything

I'm okay with a brand new Crow. They did not need to redo Eric Draven. Such a bizarre decision to use name recognition in spite of all the changes on display.
They have tried different crows but they flopped. So I guess they thought their ticket would be to redo Eric
@@audrab27 Yeah, I watched three of the four previous movies, and large chunks of the TV series. 😬😬I know the franchise just kept deteriorating as it went on.
I was hoping this would revive the IP, but it's facing an uphill battle. I really think that the strong visuals, the modern action choreography, and maybe even Skarsgård's name could carry it forward, if not for the baggage of Eric Draven/Brandon Lee.
But the choice has been made. So I hope that regardless of how this turns out, the franchise tries again.
@@marcoatila they should have taken it as a sign when the sequel with Sarah was a disaster. This movie looks beautiful with Bill but to say This is the Crow This is Eric no it's not. They changed way too much I think for the OG fans to really grasp it. Maybe a new generation will fall in love with this like so many did with the original.

This one is just plain and simple looking compared to the original the world is just to bright and clean nothing grand about it, Draven looks like a Suicide Squad joker knock off with a mullet, the way they died in this trailer was just to simple and boring compared to how the original played out. This should not be Eric Draven this should be a whole new story.

I will never stop loving the original film but I am willing to give this film a chance. Bill Skarsgard is a fantastic actor and I don’t see him doing some ripoff crap. The trailer suggests that this is a similar but different experience. I wouldn’t want a pale imitation of the original. This looks like it’s far more violent as well as showing the audience the depths of the love that could spawn that sort of violence. Unfortunately due to the circumstances of Brandon Lee’s passing the audience only got to see fleeting glimpses of what Eric and Shelley had. I know that some people don’t like this film already because they are loyal to the original and I have that same love, but I really want to see this new version.

He seriously looks like a Soundcloud rapper, or a parody of one. They should made a movie about The Darkness with this cast and concept, it may have worked better. Bill could have even used his own voice for The Darkness.

The Wraith with Charlie Sheen and The Crow with Brandon Lee are two great supernatural revenge films
I was in theeatre the day the very first Crow film debuted. Was amazing. And I will be for this film also. The first film was edgy and grungy and had that atmospehere and a soundtrack to match. It was the times. This film is doing a similar thing. So Im cool with that. Now as for it being a "reboot" well Lions Gate clarified that long before this trailer stating it was an adaptation of the original James Obarr comics series. Even Obarr has stated the crow can look very different from its predecessors. So why all the bullshit about this? Would you all rather have just another Crow sequel in the vein of that turd Edward Furlong veriosn??? Because that is likely what we would have gotten if not for this. This is an attempt to see the comic in a modern light. Im okay with that. And lets get real. EVERY Crow sequel was awful with sole exception of CIty Of Angels which was a respectable sequel. This trailer alone body bags every Crow movie except the first two. Thats being real. I would rather see a damn good actor like Skarsgard versus an Edward Furlong ANY DAY. And this will do very well versus Bad Boys 2 on opening day. Bank on that.
The Crow character can have many incarnations and many stories. Its sad they tried to remake Eric Draven's story. Why?! It's already been told to perfection. There's a book in the Crow universe by my favorite author, A.A. Attanasio, called "Crow: Hellbound". Bill Skarsgård would be perfect like this for the Crow character, Billy, in that book, and he's awful as a rendering of Eric Draven. What a missed opportunity. There are so many other stories in the Crow universe. It's baffling why they chose to try to remake the OG instead of adding to its legacy.
If they dont retell Erics story the character will die off. We need to keep him alive just like Batman. The crow movie didnt die with Brandon and we shouldnt let it. My favorite movie in the world was The Crow and i really hate to say Brandon lees Eric was nothing like the comic either. So somewhere out there is atleast one more story with Eric Draven.

There has to be a tribute to Brandon Lee in there somewhere. Dude had so much talent and potential and passion. And literally gave his life to make sure the movie ended in a spectacular way
No he didn't. He died because of the lack of safety precautions on set. Big difference.

I love The Crow. One of my favorite movies. But this one, even just the trailer, is a bit too much gore and blood for me. But I hope it does well.

I actually. Like the looks of this movie. Not Eric but movie looks action packed. Im the biggest fan of the original. But its not Brandon its a new Eric. A new take maybe we should set back and watch. They are not trying to re do Brandon but continue the life of the Crow. I mean we dont want them to stop with the Crow do we? It shouldnt die out with Brandon, but can maybe be cool in its own. I mean Eric Draven is one of the coolest Crows. One day i would like to see another take on Eric if it means keeping this character alive as we did superman and some of the best.
I would have liked to seen a female crow instead of this maybe even used the same story line of a boyfriend getting killed or girlfriend .
And coming back .
But what i have always wanted was 2 crows in one movie a female and male possible make them siblings or a good crow and a dark crow .
This movie i will wait till its on streaming not in theaters .
I actully like city of angels crow just as much as the original but the others after that were straight to dvd were meh .

No way to catch that 1994 lightning in a bottle again. All they can hope for is to make it watchable for most people.
NO he does NOT look like the character "Eric" from the comics. Eric had not tats and his hair was long, 80s slight mullet the top of hair was longer that what Bill is sporting. The story is different from comics. The brutal way Shelly died is what drove Eric to seek revenge. That was a generic way to pass. Also, I heard people walked out of the test screening. He looks like Floki, Bills brothers character from Vikings. Where is Sarah? They look too young. Did they start with a prequel and say scr3w it?
Someone said it's Michael Korby's Crow story from the comic. Also what makes u think their death is a 30 second scene? You can tell scenes have been sliced and the dialog is from different parts too doesn't match. They're obviously hiding stuff.

She should watch the original first. Only then should you watch this splatter festival. I can already say that in the new edition, in contrast to the original, the atmosphere and the sadness are lost.
In the original, they didn't have to show much of the love and exchange words to see and feel much of the love.
In addition, they were warm, cordial people and not drug junkies from prison. The movie will lack everything that the original did well. And I thought after Jarod Leto's Joker I would be spared such a sight again. But no, we have a tattoo around a nipple here and the nipple is supposed to represent an eye. Wtf "Honka Honka"
I love the crow. One of the best soundtracks ever! But I clicked on the video because the Ghost shirt! If you have ghost! Will have to check out more of your videos.
I hope you two react to the original movie. As a rule of thumb, I think anyone should check out a classic before watching a remake. Just feels like thats the best way to experience a story 🙏

Was there when the original came out ...an awesome tour deforce by Brandon Lee..... This remake is a steaming pile of 💩
I hoped so the romance story but I prefer the long hair and makeup and specially Sara but I’m loving the idea about Shelly getting some screen time with her beloved and wut she saw because even in 94 1 person said it was just supposed to be her so even in that 1 she definitely saw something odd
If they had to depart from the original in so many ways, I wish they would have departed completely instead of naming the characters Eric and Shelly. If they were other people, in other circumstances, and it's just another instance of a crow bringing someone back to set the wrong things right (the original never said that it was the only time, it just said 'sometimes') then I could take this story at its own value, for better or for worse.
But when they call the characters Eric and Shelly, they earn a new expectation from me, one that is very tough to live up to. Tough, but possible. So by reaching for that, they signaled confidence, they took a big responsibility. The results don't seem to meet that high bar.
The makeup was a disappointment. This isn't a random face decoration, I mean the thespian masks of comedy and tragedy were hanging from the mirror, Eric painted his face deliberately as an actor (double entendre) who would be delivering some irony (the undead monster is the righteous hero, the humans are the evil villains; he brings fear to the frightening; brings to each their own vice, and murders the murderers).
So the makeup isn't just a superficial thing, where like hey, this is a cool drippy eyes thing, it's not just a franchise symbol, it actually signified something, and this new one only vanishingly represents it a teeny bit. It's barely there anymore. The face paint would have been the easiest way to get a real chill into the audience, if it had been on point. But no, they missed the lay-up (and mostly everything else, from the look of it).
This lacks the soul of the original. I'm not one of these purists who say "never remake that," because it can be done. FF7 was my favorite game and story, and the remake has been really excellent. The Crow (1994) is my favorite film of all time, yet it could be successfully redone. But not like this. This is the vision of somebody who did not understand the original, someone who looked at it and said "wouldn't it be great if a movie was thematically this, but substantively a cross between John Wick and Mortal Kombat, starring Channing Tatum or a near clone?" Nope, that wouldn't be great. You didn't get the original. Develop a deep sense of empathy and then re-watch 1994, before trying to re-make it, people.
There's no contrast shown in this reboot. There's not the innocence of a child in Sarah, against this menacing, dark city. There's not the humanity of Eric and Officer Albrecht against both the inhumanity of what's left of Eric, what he is now, what he must do, as well as of the evil people he has to pursue. There's not his melancholy along with his anger. There's no artfulness to him. There's no quiet to accompany his wailing. There's no way this can tap into the same emotional space the original did. It wasn't just a hot couple pissed off because their time was cut short and they were too sexy to die. Just saying "love" a bunch of times against a backdrop of a gory action flick with no art or irony doesn't reach the high bar set by "The Crow."
The comparisons to "The Punisher" illustrate my point exactly; with his short, military looking haircut and guns, the trench coat takes him more into a renegade Soldier or cop image compared to the image of the crow (and going back to the makeup, failing to nail that one didn't help solidify the distinct image of the character). I don't think anyone would ever watch the 1994 "The Crow" and ever think "The Punisher." There's a vengeance parallel, and trench coats, but that's it, the comparison is quite thin. In this trailer, the comparison does seem to fit, and it shouldn't. The choice to make Eric and Shelly addicts and Eric covered in random tattoos did not help at all. Eric was not a symbol of vice, he was a character who took each villain's vice and shoved it down their throat so they could suffer from it as much as everyone else had.
They needed to pay more attention to the subtleties, the details. "Believe me. Nothing is trivial."
One more, because it is apt. "Try harder. Try again!"
The OG movie is amazing, the og comic is great! High expectations for this. But if Julia wants to know the lore and history of this franchise, bring tissues!
Honest 1994 the crow best cult classic doing remake in 2024 seem more like teenage love story books tells more and there were more things should put in movie
I was more interested before the trailer. This just looks like yet another action movie with flashy effects. It doesn’t seem to have any kind of distinct vibe.
27 people have come back as The Crow. 27 different stories to pull from. This feels much closer to Michael Korby's run as the character than Eric Draven, so why not just call him that? Leave Eric Draven alone.
If this had just been a reboot with a new character in the Crow universe it would be fine. But the fact they have made the character Eric Draven from the original comic and movie is what has caused 99% of the backlash.
The 1994 movie wasn't a very faithful adaptation of the comic either, but it embodied the essence of the original comic and character of Eric Draven. That coupled with the tragic on set death of Brandon Lee during the making of the original film makes any remake seem disrespectful to me.
So for me this movie fails on multiple levels. It could only work as a story about Eric Draven if they had done a story that was faithful to the original comic and dedicated it to Lee. But no... I don't recognise this story as being about Eric Draven in any shape or form.
The lore of the crow carrying a soul is very Nordic.
In the graphic novel Eric and Shelley's love was predominant, so it makes sense that they would do that here. In general I'm interested in watching this. My only problem is, it looks a little too colorful and I wish they would have given it the monochromatic feel that the graphic novel and Brandon Lee's version had. I also still can't get past Bill Skarsgard's hairstyle or the tattoos. He is however shirtless and wearing a long coat in the graphic novel, so that's pretty accurate. They should have given Bill a white clown face along with the black eye make up too.
Neither this movie or Brandon Lee's movie kill Eric and Shelly in the same way as the graphic novel, but that's not what's important to me. I just need to feel that this whole hunt Eric goes on is to avenge the horror that was done to him and Shelley. Brandon Lee's version and the graphic novel are full of that feeling, so that is what I am expecting from Bill's performance. If they can top that and do a great job at that, I can eventually get past all the other stuff. Also the music for me is going to be essential. I like that they used Ozzy in the trailer but I'm not a fan of Post Malone. I guess we'll have to see when the original soundtrack comes out.
Bill so far looks interesting towards the end of the trailer. Everyone else in it, I will have to see.
I think it would perhaps have been better if they picked someone else other than Eric and Shelly for this version, since everyone else is still so fond of Brandon Lee's Eric Draven.

The crow is going to be one of the biggest movies this summer. Movie goers are split on whether or not they like it, but they all are gonna go see it. I think the trailer did its job and put the film on notice. I personally am hyped to see it. Can't wait.
I hope the next trailer will give more personality and heart cause this one is,… lackluster 2024 illogical logic.

One thing i truly hate about people nowadays they complain about anything if its not a shot for shot recreation of the original people are going to hate it becuase they dont have the common sense to see that this is a different take on the crow story and they even said its not trying to top the original they physically cant But people need to grow up and see that its someone elses vision for the crow
While I agree that sometimes people are overly critical, I don't think it's fair to just make a blanket statement about ppl as though they all have no understanding of creativity and vision. I firmly believe that most ppl understand that directors/writers are allowed to take liberties with stories. in fact, logically speaking we all know they should as it can bring good storytelling at the forefront. However, certain stories are classics for a reason and to alter them in an extreme way can cause fans to be very defensive and insulted. It's very reasonable to not want a Classic story to be changed too much. It could have been far more acceptable for this vision to come in the form of a new story set in the same universe. I think I can speak for many Crow fans when I say we're much more likely to appreciate this new vision if it was a new story... But because it is a remake of a beloved classic, fans have every right to be concerned and upset by some of the narrative, tone and aesthetic changes that seem to be presented in this new interpretation. It would be far easier to digest this new vision if it was just a new character from the modern times who faces a tragedy and is brought back to avenge his loved one.
This is the primary reason why some ppl dislike remakes in general as they sometimes feel like an insult to what came before, rather than a nod to the legacy. Sequels and Reboots are a little more acceptable to fans because they can watch it without it connecting to the original.
Me personally, I'm reserving judgment. As a fan of the OG, I'm very concerned but I'm an open mind and will try to watch as if it's an alternate universe. That said, when you call something a remake and use the same names, you can't blame fans for being hesitant to watch when what you present is opposite of what most fans loved about the original. People have every right to be upset. It doesn't have to be a shot for shot recreation, but they could have at least tried to bring the story closer to what original fans loved. They didn't. They just recreated everything and said "It's Eric, It's Shelly, It's The Crow..."
If this was a new character, OG fans would likely be able to accept it better...

People think they shouldn't we make a film but people forget it's not theirs to own so I do appreciate you guys not talking crap about it😂
