Those nets are massive man I bet your arms are smoked at the end of the day. My prayers to the families , wildlife and firefighters affected by the fires over there, stay safe!
Awesome Prawning Session and Catch and Cook as well Sammy !! I love the new uploads and videos Sammy !! Keep up the amazing work Sammy !! Thanks for the videos Sammy !! Cheers William !!
😂 can't believe it... My Nannas house was legit were u guys were prawning the whole time, they rang saying all the pros were there whilst they were getting there own feed of prawns!!
Mate, I never knew they could be caught during the day like that! My Nan and I used to spotlighting/scoopnetting for them on the south coast NSW at all hours of the night, but there you go, it seems tides and moons are more important. Great episode, the happiness on the ole boys face at not having to throw a heavy net was priceless!
You can catch prawns anytime .Scoop netting is done at night with a light source.I used to catch prawns with my toes middle of the day when I was young.Enjoy the experience with kids and have a wholesome family fun time. Adam
Time of the year has a big part to play with our prawn season up here. in summer they start to move out of the creeks to spawn. hahah yeah any day you can just sit on the motor and let someone else sling a net is a good day!
Put pumpkin pie spice cayenne pepper salt and whatever else you like to put on the shrimp then wrap the shrimp in bacon put a toothpick through them and bake them to your desired shrimpiness 🦐🥓🍤🦐🥓🍤🦐🥓🍤🦐🥓🍤🦐
Awesome video! What’s the best way to store them between getting them on the boat and cooking them at home? Is it just ice cold salt water in an esky? How long until they die? Then do you just drain them before you cook them? Also if your prawning at night and not cooking then for another day or two, what’s the best way to store them fresh?
Try this when they're still alive as a snack while on the boat. Mix half a kilo of the prawns into half a liter of brandy. Let them soak until they turn bright red. Drain away the brandy and mix in some soy sauce to taste. Enjoy!
Creamy garlic prawns, or garlic butterflied prawn cutlets, but the smaller prawns i coat whole in flour salt and pepper and deep fry mmmmmmm, they turn out nice and crunchy and taste great. Another awesome video mate, keep emcoming please
Very nice work Sammy. I went out this Saturday and it seems those yellow nuggets have migrated towards Hutchies. I managed to hook 3 yellowfin on top water but only land 1 due to hooks not setting in the first two. Bloody hell they are great eating fish! I reckon if you get a chance head out there.
There has been enough rain to move them. Prawns up our way will not school up without atleast a small flush out and we haven't had one, hence no prawns
What we do in the Gulf of Mexico is tie a rope on a can of cat food and poke holes in it. Then throw it in the water and wait about ten minutes and then cast the net over the can. We get about 100 shrimp each time we pull in the net.
Sammy,.. l told you to steam them in a salted honey and lime mix.. those little tiddlers .. 4 minutes or if you see air bubbles along the spline meat area under the shell. The real secret is to take them out of the heat and flush them in cold water until they cool down, then drop them into iced salty water.. sweet as, and yeah keep testing them as they chill down, best done with a cold beer or 2 in hand. Whipped up some Madras Curry/ lime juice/ white wine/ Garlic and oil for a pan fried bunch of 15/25 Endeavours for our wraps last night.. l think l won lotto for desert
There has to be ship all in these waters.... you can have shrimp burgers, shrimp sandwiche, there's barbecue shrimp, you can saute it. Fry it deep fry stir fry, shrimp scampi, that's that's all you can do ....
Great video and picture quality top notch mate !! I live very close to the Pine river so will have to learn how to throw a cast net . New subscriber as well . Cheers 🍻
Sammy Hitzke Fishing I’ve never seen them with a pocket in the top to trap anything. I’m in the states and ours just close up like an umbrella. Is it specific to prawn fishing?
@@SammyHitzkeFishing I don't know how much mustard powder he used but from memory I only tasted a hint of it, they tasted alright to me with a cold beer. But for mine it's hard to beat Honey and Sweet Chilli Prawns cooked on the BBQ or in a Wok although prawns with a sprinkle of Lemon Pepper and straight on BBQ is not bad either.
Hey mate, the castnet was build by Merv from Mervs cast nets. His Contact details are at the start of the video or in the description below. Boat run throughs are on the list, not sure when I will film them but they will be in the line up soon!

My absolute favourite way is fresh from the boiler at 2-3 am after you've spent the last few hours catching them. Best late night feed ever.
Chilli garlic mate, all the way YUUUUUM
Honey & soy sauce cooked on the BBQ 👍

Good good Sammy, that's a tasty start to the new year! Good to see Terry the Phantom getting amongst it 😎
Sammy, a 1/2 cup of vinegar in the boiling water cleans up the taste if they are a bit creeky or from dirty water
Cheers for the tip! I'll give it a try!

Nice mate thats awesome! Hopefully they hang around for a little while!
I prefer using old bay seasoning for prawns, never tried using sweet seasoning
You'll have to give it a try! It's really nice!
Love the perfect circles mate prawns are the best
Thanks mate! A little bit of practice went into those pancakes!
Awesome mate, can`t wait for some rain up fraser coast way to bring them on.
they have had bugger all rain and are getting some why do we always need rain to bring them on
There has been enough rain to move them. Prawns up our way will not school up without atleast a small flush out and we haven't had one, hence no prawns
Yeah we have had a little bit of rain at the upper parts of these catchments, definitely help get the prawns moving!

Where are you casting because i would like to know a good spot as i just bought a cast net
Hey Sammy is there much difference between the chain bottom or sinker bottom on the cast nets
I personally find the chain nets cast a lot better and also get the prawns off the bottom a lot better.
Thanks Sammy
Another quality video with some good tips.

Wow! Great Bro.,
Thanks mate!
Welcome Bro!😊
Brother what is the season of catching shrimp?? When we will get shrimp beside river
Hey mate, the shrimp are on now. They love the summer heat 👍👍
We always used to put them into some fresh water first to clear out the poo shute. Always seemed to work but maybe that thinking has changed??
I've never tried it to be honest, I usually prefer to get them cold as soon as possible to keep them fresh and in good condition
Looks like a good time. NEW SUPPORTER here. 👍💪😎
Epic! Welcome to the channel!
happy new year mate great video
Thanks mate! same to you!
Where could we get the casting nets
If there legal in your area the local fish shop will have some or know someone who does.
Hey mate. Are those normal cast nets or specific prawn nets..they would be sick on schools of piper over here(nz)..keep up the awsome vids...🤙
Karl Crawford top pocket nets mate
G'day Karl, Yeah these are specifically for prawns. For piper you'd probably want a bottom pocket net, not a top pocket like this one.
Sweet..cheers for the info
Nice one Bill👍
Just subscribed to your channel....happy new year from England 🏴

Thanks mate, Same to you! I ate like a king, So many prawn sandwiches!
Hi mate, that looks great, so what cast net do you recommend starting out, as just got a boat and would love to net some prawns on Gold Coast
Thanks! if you haven't used one before, maybe a 10ft would be a good starter. most tackle stores sell them in QLD
Love the videos bro
What kind of cast nets are those????

Unfortunately we are not allowed to use cast nets in NSW but glad to see getting a good feed
That's a bit of a bugger, but probably good for the fish stocks!
How big is that net 20 foot
12ft mate, we're not allowed to used a bigger net then that here in QLD
Downside is all the tiny prawns that go through the boat as i found out last weekend in bris river while huntin live bait
hahah just follow your nose and you'll find them!
Was that in the pine or the Caboolture ?
Cabo mate
Looks the goods for the start of 2020 👍 look forward to more
Who built your cast net ? Thoughts on a quick rig run down on your next episode ?
Hey mate, the castnet was build by Merv from Mervs cast nets. His Contact details are at the start of the video or in the description below. Boat run throughs are on the list, not sure when I will film them but they will be in the line up soon!
I cook my shrimp in Old Bay Seasoning or Cajun Seasoning.
Any shrimp that I catch I put in a live well and use it for speckled trout/flounder/redfish. It’s the best live bait you can get.
Yeah they are definitely great bait! good eating too!
got any free cast nets
If y’all used an American style cast net with a bridle you could make many more casts in a shorter period of time.
Yeah but they are on much smaller nets
well done, how long is the prawn season
Thanks mate, it usually runs through until about April on a good year
Bloody hell sammy you get about don’t you lol👍👍👍👍
Hahaha I like a bit of variety!

haha yeah i'll admit that! too much time out in the boat fishing to tend to the garden!
Great vid to start the decade Sam. Just had honey prawns at the local Chinese, bet they weren't as fresh or cheap as yours.

They are much better frozen green mate put them into ice cream containers then fill and cover with water
Darron Galway thankyou my friend 😊👍🏻
I freeze mine green as well, but cryovaced. Probably just not as good as frozen in salt water, but it takes up a whole heap less room in the freezer
