If you go the air freshener route make sure there are no ingredients that are toxic to your cat, as most air fresheners usually have them. These can end up doing some serious damage to your cat. Even with a non toxic freshener there is a chance of your cat being allergic, so be cautious. If you notice any excessive licking or scratching, possibly to the point of balding, remove the air freshener asap. I found the best method to be growing easily accessible cat grass in a couple of places in the house specifically for my cat to munch on. He's left the other plants alone since then.
Thankfully, none of my cats eat my plants. Three of them pretty much ignore them. The fourth one likes to sniff and inspect everything new…including new plants. I do grow cat grass for them year round so perhaps that helps. My niece, unfortunately has a cat that will chow down on almost any plant that he can reach in their house. She has tried all the usual suggestions without luck. All of her plants have to be hanging from the wall or ceiling.
Hi Molly! I envy you for having cats that can coexist with your plants. My cats are like your niece's; I can leave air fresheners around my plants but I get headaches myself XD. I leave new plants for them to mess with for a couple of days, though it's really hard to bear seeing the damage they do. Sometimes after the initial taste-test, they leave the plants be! It's strange because some lipstick plants they love to chew and some they ignore. Cats are so strange ;D
I live with 7 cats and over 100 plants and i really needed this.
Cute pets and your indoor plants are very beautiful, beautiful sharing
