Thank you Misha. Your channel is one of the best. I live in Germany where guns are not very popular. But on your channel i can learn about all different type of guns, the history and stuff.
Thank you for watching. I have visited Germany. It was a good experience....also you people will put a bit of liquor in any drink no matter what it is =)
IH - MTXRGU I lived in Bitburg in the late 70s when my father was stationed there. I loved it there. To this day I still remember as if it were yesterday... still my favorite place I’ve ever lived...
The Colt 601 is honestly my favorite rifle of all time. I love the A2 configuration for its balance of performance and stability at longer ranges, but something about the 601 is just really alluring. Maybe I just saw "Dawn of the dead" too many times as a kid.
Great vid. Colt manufactured their first 300 Colt Armalite AR-15 Model 601 rifles in December 1959. Armalite sold its rights to the AR-10 and AR-15 to Colt earlier that year. On September 30, 1959, Colt made its first sale of Model 601s to Malaya.
I've had many different SP1s over the years, including a couple carbines. This is the one I kept as it is the closest to a milspec configuration. It is quite similar to the Colt 602 and an early USAF XM16.
I can confirm the rear sight hole on the A2 & A4 is too big or too small. Just picked up a midwest light weight folding rear and its in between and perfect.
I'm curious, what is the difference between the M16A4 M4A1 produced by Colt and Fn? And why does Colt use the name AR15A4? So which company is the original manufacturer? Between Colt and Fn?
Agreed, I'd like to mess with both the rifle and the carbine version (aka Black Hawk Down type). I grew up in the '80s, so always enjoy that style of gun (like the AUG heh).
If you ever happen to get your hands on a Norinco CQ M311, you should totally do a video on it! They're the rare Chinese version of the AR-15, so it'll be difficult finding them here in the US, you'll probably have to go up to Canada if you want to have a greater chance of finding them though,
either XM16/602 or M16A1/603. I like how light and handy the early versions were. The A2 has some '80s cool and the A4 is great if you need an optic and bipod; but they both add significant weight.
I'm trying to restore a sp1 with a 161,000 number lower I believe it was from 1982, mating it back to a sp1 upper I bought at a gun show years ago, my question is, what would be the correct pistol grip and stock
...has anyone ever used or needed to use the forward assist....or is it merely there from WAY BACK at insistence of the US Army? And I wonder if the forward assist made an already failure to feed situation / jam worse?
Have an opportunity to buy a ban era Match Target Hbar 20" in A2 config, except with sear shelf, and shaved bolt. Being a ban rifle, do you think good idea or not. ~700, in good condition. Thanks
I have to say I came in the military at a weird time 89' I was using the M16A1 at my first duty station they hadn't transition all the way to A2 in the Marines by my second duty station I was issued the A2 rifle by early 2004 I believe the M4 rifle by the end of my career the M4 carbine.
Yes, M16A2 = 3 rd burst, M16A3 = full-auto. Now if you get into the 'AR15 A3' then things change and that's a semi-auto rifle w/ Picatinny rail....making the AR15 A4....basically the same gun lol. In the end, what's in a name? different times and different companies. Also Colt used numbers like 701 and 705 rather than A3 or A2.
Ozark Bear Arms the names of these things are always ultra confusing. Not as bad as smith and wessons nonsensical digit system. I am still a bit confused. The M16A3 in military terminology, was it a flat top like the A4 or fixed like the A2?
The military M16A3 was identical to the M16A2, except it had the original safe/semi/auto FCG and markings, rather than safe/semi/burst. So it had a fixed carry handle with A2 iron sights.
Absolutely not. The tiny number of times it might be useful are outweighed by the added weight, cost, and having a big control hanging off the side of the weapon. PLus, the thing might cause someone to force an out of spec round into the chamber when its really not a good idea...so nope, i don't much like it. Ask SP1 owners if they ever regret its lack hehe, cheers.
I agree, it was a bad idea for the army to tell them to add the forward assist. I really want to find some of the Colt LMG A2 uppers without the forward assist on them because I love the A2 uppers so much but I don't want the added weight of it.
Yes, they have decided that the option for full-auto is preferred over burst. Remember, the rifle still has semi too and that is what is used most of the time. Also, the FA system is simpler and thus more reliable/less likely to have something go FUBR. As to the 14.5" completely taking over, this is just a modern trend. Most everyone has switched from rifles to carbines. Gives soldiers a shorter and lighter weapon, and really the range isn't decreased all that much. For longer ranged targets, there are plenty of 7.62 rifles and MGs still in service. And so on and on it goes. There are other reasons and rationals.
They should have gone with the enhanced M4 series so burst and auto would be available. To my knowledge the only military to purchase them in numbers was the Greek military, they had the right idea.
Chris lives & breathes AR15s. Me? I am interested in them only as far as their history goes. I know very little about modern tactical/commercial developments and products. Thanks for watching, cheers.

I give you a lot of credit and admire how you don’t let your blindness stop you from your passion for firearms.
You should be a Professor of Firearms…love learning gun stuff from this channel..!!
Thank you much for watching.

Yup.
Now I want to watch Dawn Of The Dead... Thanks a lot 😠
Colt 602 > Colt 601: updated "T" charging handle, bolt catch, pronged flash hider and _no_ pastel green furniture
You have a great one of the best collections I’ve seen, congrats
Thank you for watching. Remember though, i run a store so some of the guns are store guns. The SP1 is mine of course.
great video !
Thanks Misha! Always love videos on the M16, and you have the best collection!
Thanks much for watching. Hopefully we'll get back to the range soon...some months its just difficult to find the time.
@@ozarkbeararms8840 did you change your name misha?? I’m genuinely confused??
My Favorite Is Colt M16A1 10:43,Colt M16A2 23:55, Colt M16A3, Colt M16A4 33:23 AR-15 😊!

Excellent video.
Lots of great information!
thank you for watching, cheers.
That SP1 is nice bro. Good vid!

Ozark Bear Arms I’m thinking about putting a 3 prong flash hider on mine if I can find an original.
Good info! Thanks
thanks for watching.
Great video, thanks !!!! I have a 1977 SP1
I can confirm the rear sight hole on the A2 & A4 is too big or too small. Just picked up a midwest light weight folding rear and its in between and perfect.
Nice video, how I contact you as I’ve some question about Colt’s😊

Dude you are the man.. Thank you
Thank you much for watching, cheers.
@Mishaco you need to review the Troy M16A2 inside and out

And the Type 81.
Such an interesting history for these rifles. So, Misha, which do you prefer? A1, A2 or A4?
either XM16/602 or M16A1/603. I like how light and handy the early versions were. The A2 has some '80s cool and the A4 is great if you need an optic and bipod; but they both add significant weight.

A1 pistol grip, A1 (short) buttstock with trap door and weep hole
thanks again, great info :)
Thanks for watching, cheers.
...has anyone ever used or needed to use the forward assist....or is it merely there from WAY BACK at insistence of the US Army? And I wonder if the forward assist made an already failure to feed situation / jam worse?
Nope, it has never been needed...or at least never been a good idea. Forcing a round into a chamber...gee wonder what could go wrong? lol
Check out Arms-Tech USR, Ferfrans SOAR, and LaFrance M16k.

Nice video. Can you do the c7 series

I wonder where the Car 15 is different from the M4 ???
whats the model number on that colt A2 rifle.
Original military number? or what?
the commercial offering number, Like how the colt M4 is the 6920,ect I'm trying to find a colt A2 style rifle.
It isn't a commercial Colt model. I think i say in the video it is a M16A2 upper on a generic lower.
I was under the impression that the A3 was an M16A4 with an A1 trigger pack. More you learn I suppose
Yes, M16A2 = 3 rd burst, M16A3 = full-auto. Now if you get into the 'AR15 A3' then things change and that's a semi-auto rifle w/ Picatinny rail....making the AR15 A4....basically the same gun lol. Thanks misha! I always appreciate the quick replies. i ended up looking everything up right after i made the comment. Thanks again though.
Do you think that the forward assist on the AR-15 really necessary?
Absolutely not. The tiny number of times it might be useful are outweighed by the added weight, cost, and having a big control hanging off the side of the weapon. PLus, the thing might cause someone to force an out of spec round into the chamber when its really not a good idea...so nope, i don't much like it. No it isnt even stoner the dude that designed the damn thing himself said no
@@gijoe5372 His design also excluded chrome lining of the bore and chamber, lawl
Do you like the A1 or A2 better?
Any reason the US military is abandoning the 20 inch barrel and the 3 round burst?
Yes, they have decided that the option for full-auto is preferred over burst. Remember, the rifle still has semi too and that is what is used most of the time. Also, the FA system is simpler and thus more reliable/less likely to have something go FUBR.

Corinthian There’s a reason they’re the only ones. That trigger group is very complex and pretty much useless if you can train soldiers properly.
3 round burst is stupid
SP 1 is my fav
Fav AR15 or rifle in general?
Bro i wish i can have magic and make you see how your gun are so nice my brother cheers 🍻
the M1 garand is the greatest battle impliment ever devised!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember people there is no promoter is all knowledge
Por que a M16A3 SUMIU?
Unless Chris has a lot of knowledge about ar 15 series of rifles, you are a little bit of "easier to digest", for the beginners at last.
