Speaking as a Voices.com client: another great tip is to READ THE DIRECTIONS. 16 of the 18 sample reads I got, the actor didn't follow the directions. Thankfully, one of the two people who actually followed the directions was perfect for my needs. She charged a higher price than the other actors, and I was happy to pay it for a job well done.

The single best piece of advice I've heard in a long time. Thanks, Bill! And Jennifer!

Ask her why Voices now along with your 400-500 yearly subscriptions they also are now taking about 40-50% of payment for finished project . I left them 2 years ago

Yeah, I was that guy that did it for a month, got frustrated and cancelled. But it took that to make me realize I didn't know much about doing voice over work. I had a Shure SM-58 mic I picked up animation, and had done a couple of local gigs for people because they told me I had a great voice. I had some theatre in high school and college, and sang in a couple bands. One 3 minute long voice over job for a demo. I thought I had it in the bag, LOL. (*shutters from embarrassment*)
Now I have a Sennheiser MK4, and after watching your series Bill, I feel I am much better equipped to tackle a membership on voices.com once I save up for a Whisper Room this summer! Thank you Bill DeWees.

The Shure SM58 is mostly for musicians. It is amazing for that. Not as much for voice recording,

@@CrapReviewer The 58 & 57 are OKAY for singing SOME TYPES of live shows but it's ALWAYS a terrible studio mic for both VO & vocals. I use a vintage Royer, AKG C214, & some other amazing large diaphragm condenser mic(possibly tube mic if I can find it).

What if there's 50 people with 80% or higher of a match? If everyone just uses the same keywords there wont be any sorting... right?

I don't know that this specific info was shared - You can audition for three hundred jobs and maybe get three or four hires.

So would you say it would be better to have a 30 sec demo for each category then?

  •  9 років тому +12

Jennifer should be using something better than 6 dollars microphone.

+Głos z Ameryki wouldn't really make much difference with Skype compression and AGC.

Getting your demo seen by the right person sounds very much like SEO (search engine optimization). If you want to be seen for business and have no business keywords you aren't going to show up in the search results.
