      @@fairuzraz2468 ROFL, don't be so sure; the drones get thrown out of the hive in late Fall to starve and/or freeze to death. Only the workers actually get to overwinter with the queen. Also, bee lives are pretty short. The queen is the longest-lived member of the hive at a whooping... 1 to 2 years. I'd stick with humanity if I were you, lol. ;P (This is all about European honeybees, btw. Japanese honeybees do have some differences - see hornet ball - but I suspect this stuff is mostly similar.)

    Love your videos. I'm new to your channel. I was unaware of the Asian Giant Hornet until a special aired on Animal Planet a few years ago. Especially how they actively hunt down honeybee colonies, and can and have entirely wiped out whole colonies of Western honeybees. I have no love for the Asian Giant Hornet. Those things freak me out. I even have nightmares about being swarmed by them, no kidding.
    A couple years ago, in Washington state, a series of nests of them were found and destroyed. The state is still relentlessly on the lookout for them. The same situation exists in France, where they managed to invade several years ago.
    I always find it interesting that even though the Japanese honeybee has an effective defense (the "bee ball"), beekeepers still have to be on guard against them.

    • @Vandil0
      @Vandil0 11 місяців тому

      France was invaded by different species of "ASIAN HORNET". Scient name of this species is Vespa Velutina. They are comparable in size to european Hornet. Giant Asian Hornet is Vespa mandarina which is shown on this video. Velutina are preety much same as european Hornet. comparable size, comparable agressivness, comparable venom. VESPA VELUTINA IS NOT GIANT MURDERER HORNET.

    Hello I was wondering if you've ever seen a flow hive? I was wondering what you might think of it. Since its wooden only do you think it might need reinforcement against hornets too?

    • @MariaPetalcorin
      @MariaPetalcorin Рік тому +1

      I have done research with the Flow Hive and Japanese honey bees. Using the Flow Hive as it is, is not suitable for Japanese bees. However, using the smaller version with the Flow Frames in a traditional Japanese beehive works very well. You can search for the paper "Increased Honey Yield of Apis cerana japonica Using Half-Sized Flow Frames in a Traditional Japanese Beehive".

There's a very popular bee keeper youtube in Korea called " 프응 TV " it's mainly about bee keeping farmer's life, partially wars between wild bees and domestic bees, hornets and other insects, drama and gossip between queens, country dogs with a Gopro camera on their back and others. Maybe in another metaverse there might be a collaboration video between Japan and Korean bee keepers. Great Video !

    A glass jar with a relatively large mouth is sufficient to catch these wasps. They are so heavy that they cannot fly upwards. Once they are in they are stuck since they cannot climb up the smooth glass surface. If they are attracted to some over ripe fruit ( grapes, figs etc. ) in a couple of inches of water at the bottom, it is a fatal trap for them. Watching them clamber on top of each other to stay out of the water is as satisfying as watching them stuck on this glue plate. ;) HAI.

    Building a double enclosure ( one circling the area with an 8 foot bubble then the next one very close to the hive) with 1/4 inch, or even smaller, holed wire mesh would work.
    Just ensure the mesh can allow the bees IN/OUT and STOP the hornets and other predators.
    That sticky method is ok but it is an indiscriminate killing method, hopefully bees do not land on it.

    • @harrymu148
      @harrymu148 Рік тому +1

      The bees may be confused by a mesh and don't have that much flight agility. they may end up bumping into the mesh more than other obstacles too. There's a whole compilation of scientists recording random bees crashing mid-air into things.
      It is notable that bees can replenish their numbers pretty quickly so a good strong hive could afford to accept such losses especially when the hornets cannot attack the actual hive.

    • @MariaPetalcorin
      @MariaPetalcorin Рік тому +1

      During hornet season a lot of beekeepers in Japan use nets around the hives that only the bees can pass through. They show this on their IG page actually.

    • @harrymu148

      There was this one australian guy that mentioned wax moths. He was explaining that wax moths can fake communication like an imposter to the bees to lay larvae into beehives but I think he did mention he hadn't personally dealt with them yet.

    • @enbeast8350

      @@harrymu148 Oh, that's fascinating. I was wondering how wax moths were able to start an infestation since bees are so organized and clean in their hives. I couldn't think of how a moth could have either gotten past guards or why the bees wouldn't remove wax moth larva. Thanks!
