For the last lesson in this series on Intra-Abdominal Pressure (IAP), we are now talking about the different management strategies and treatment modalities for elevated IAP. We start going over the overview of the management algorithm from the Abdominal Compartment Society, before moving on to discuss the 5 main areas that make up our management strategy; evacuating intra-luminal contents, evacuating intra-abdominal space occupying lesions, improving abdominal wall compliance, optimizing fluid balance, and optimizing end organ perfusion.

Thank you! This info really helped me further understand the complexities due to unexpected build of too much pressure Internally.
Can you do an episode on visible warning signs of compartment syndrome "look for when in the field/on-site of an accident" (specifically Abdominal Compartment Syndrome)?
Such as the pale look of the skin surrounded by internal bleeding-lesions/ecchymosis/cyan looking skin. Red streaking on the skin that can appear in a running (wet paint down a wall) look/fashion and signs of allergic reactive skin reactions, via complications of gases trapped with built up pressure.
I have read compartment syndrome & severity can be hard to detect due to how each I divide also body responds differently. Leaving a person in severe condition to look okay when really NOT okay.
I have some amazing images I would love to share with you for educational purposes, if you are interested.

Hey Eddie, starting my CVICU practicum this month, never been so excited and nervous. I wonder if theres any specific tips you'd have for me to optimize my learning experience there on my first few days. I've watched all of your cardiac and renal videos so that should help. Thanks again for making all this incredible content, just got my two signed ICU Advantage stickers!

Hey Liam! So sorry for the slow response as I almost missed this comment!
Congrats on the practicum. I'm sure your a good ways into it by now, but honestly, I wouldn't try and do any learning before hand. Far too much to do. Just take it all in as it comes and when things come up that you don't know (which will be a lot at first) then take some time to dig further into those.
Keep up that same mentality and bite sized learning over the years and your knowledge and competence will slowly grow.
Really glad you are enjoying the content and thank you so much for the sticker purchase! Hope they ended up somewhere cool! 😊
