Old school I have two black light tube bulbs on the fixtures for My poster collection I got my first black light when I was 19 and now I'm 25 and I bought my 2nd one at a thrift furniture shop lol I love blacklights

Thank you! The glow green one was a prop that I bought during Halloween, might’ve been at the dollar store? The colorful one was made out of wooden pieces and I just painted it. You can probably google something, and just paint it with UV paint or glow green.
I like this. A local bar wanted to switch to UV for Halloween. The 400 just seems a more versatile solution.
For a bar type setting yeah 400nm will work good.
Thanks for the video that kind of cleared up some questions I had but I have a few more if you don't mind I know with HID bulbs the light spectrum changes with use over time color rendering index with HIDs and I'm not sure what you would call it in fluorescence and LEDs. I don't think that is near as bad with fluorescence and I was wondering if LEDs do the same? Does the Spectrum shift enough on a black light depending on which direction it goes so where it would be possible it could easily move outside of the range needed to fluoresce and how's that different for LEDs and fluorescent tubes? Also I've got a very expensive but very old resin curing LED for dental material that doesn't seem to make things fluoresce very much and has a decent amount of visible light and I'm wondering if that is normal or if I might have overpowered the emitter trying to determine what voltage it required and messed it up Richard really kind of suck considering it cost several thousand dollars and though I paid nothing for it replacing the emitter won't be easy or cheap because I'm having trouble finding it for starters but I know if I do it will be more than I'm willing to spend for another one considering the fiber optic trunk that it hooks to with the 45° angle on the end cost a couple hundred bucks to replace all by itself and since I probably won't go that route could you maybe suggest for me a good alternative to replace it with that's cheaper and maybe actually makes things the rest like a black light as I really don't have UV curing Dental material or that UV curing resin that works through the same method and I might as well use it for making things glow without all the purple light. Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my questions and thanks for sharing your knowledge on these things because none of this seems to be very intuitive and from my experience it is almost always experience beating out intuition
The spectrum doesn’t shift on a blacklight. In fluorescent bulbs you’ll lose UV output overtime and LED is the same but takes a lot longer.
It sounds like you blew out the LED? I’m not exactly sure what you need replaced?
@@UVBlackLights the LED emitter itself puts out plenty of light and I'm sure it's still within the UV Spectrum but not very good at making things fluoresce I have a lot of the Violet just at the edge of the visible range and the person who gave it to me pulled it out of a dumpster behind a dentist office so it may have been already a little hosed before I ever saw it but I'm just wondering because the heat sink the driver and everything is all they're together on the chip with the emitter I could replace the emitter easily and was hoping someone could recommend something for me maybe a specific emitter or a specific company with good quality LEDs that are reasonably priced that I only have to get one of or maybe two but not 50 that is high output and likely compatible with what I've got I've been driving it at 6.0 to 7.5 volts using a power supply that did not come with it but seems to do the trick and it's a crazy looking emitter like I haven't seen before that I don't need to try to match I can drive it with whatever it requires. And I typically muddle my way through things figuring them out best I can I was hoping somebody could save me a little leg work if you know what I mean

I would recommend the 365nm fluorescent or 365nm LED.
This is a very helpful video. I consider an art project with black lights and was curious, if LED black lights work properly ;)

Looking at buying the Bluebar 60W 400NM LED black light, would this be a bit over kill for a small apartment bedroom?

Best to use for charging is 365nm. You want as much UV as possible for charging.

If you want no visible light you can use 365nm fluorescent or LED. If you think the purple visible light will help your effect, go with the 400nm.

Hey! I noticed they’re not selling the LED Bluebar 400nm Black Light Fixture on the website. I have no idea what other websites or places to go to reliably buy one from. Have any other recommendations?:)
Unfortunately, they discontinued it, so it’s probably super hard to find one unless used.

I’m not sure why really. I’m guessing they want to go with 365nm blacklights only.

I have a question for you (UV Black Lights).
I believe I know the answervafter rewatching this vid. I bought the classic no longer being made Ge 48" f40 bulbs and thought it would be a much better affect than my little fluorescent light bulb from a lamp. However the 4 bulbs in the light fixture light up the room. I can see everything in the room. Now I believe your likely going to tell me to paint my room in a darker color. Since my walls are white this must be the problem , right?
Well it’s two things. The fluorescent does still have some visible light, that’s what bounces off the white walls. Darker walls will help, but you can’t make your room complete darkness with blacklights. Try reducing to 1 or 2 lamps and see if that helps any.
@@UVBlackLights thanks bud for the quick response. Your room looks so dark though. Well your likely right about the number as the room I sampled the 4 48" bulbs was 10 x 10.

@@melovemusic69 well the camera makes it look darker for whatever reason. Unfortunately, there isn’t a blacklight that can have no visible light at all. If you have a lot of UV reactive objects it’ll bounce a lot of light as well.

What would work best with neon markers?
365nm LED or fluorescent will work best.

@anizma The fluorescent light you just plug in cause the bulbs I use are in a fixture. You can buy the bulbs separate and use any T8 fixture. What type of blacklight are you looking for?

My idea is I have the black light shining down onto me so it will light up these uv eye colored contacts I have so I pop out like a cartoon sort of. Any thoughts?
@@Anizma That'll work for what you want to do. I wouldn't have the black light close up though, especially for long periods at a time. I'm assuming this is going to be in your room, I would try and mount it as close to your ceiling as possible. You want to be at least 5' away.

@@AnizmaI No problem at all! I would recommend some UV protection glasses for hours of exposure, but that would defeat the purpose of what you're trying to do, because the glasses will block out the UV and your eye contacts won't react to the blacklight. Sunscreen is also a good choice. When I do my videos, I try not to stay exposed for hours, just a small tip.

T5/t8 etc is a thing of the past
You have to remember led keeps the same kelvin (color of light) throughout its lifespan.
Fluorescent lights loose their kelvin after a certain amount of time has passed . In other words , the color will change . Just because the light works doesn’t mean it has the same color/temperature/kelvin you started with
This goes the same for Metal halide and other high intensity bulbs.
@reefmimic this is very true about the fluorescent, although we don't use kelvin in UV. Wildfires Fluorescent BLBs last about 8000 hours, it is recommended to change them out at that point because the amount of UV cuts in half even though they appear to still be "working". I probably should've said that in my video, thanks for the very helpful comment!
Metal halides burn loads quicker than fluorescent, probably change those out half the time.
