You asked why he was singing the lead part instead of her. Most people assume it's because it's a cover so PTX just didn't change the well-known original lyrics while wanting Scott to do his specialty runs & stuff on a lead because he does it better than Kirstie, but that's not really true. Once you've listened to enough PTX you do see that gender in lyrics gets flipped if Kevin, Avi, or Matt (the straight guys) are singing lead but when Scott & Mitch (the gay guys) & Kirstie (in support) sing lead they do not switch the genders in lyrics. This is the group's way of representing the LGBTQ+ community in their music.
(Of course this issue really doesn't come up as often as you think, because if you think about it, songwriters generally try to keep specific mentions of gender to a minimum in lyrics. They want all listeners to subconsciously identify with the lead singer(s) & like the song enough to buy it. It doesn't matter as much if the lyrics are sung by a deep masculine voice or a higher feminine voice, it mostly matters that the words stick in the listeners' heads because of a relateable situation or feeling being referenced.)

They filmed this when Kirstie was in the Broadway show Kinky Boots (I think) and that is why the backdrop is New York. Matt and Kevin really complemented each other in the beginning of the song and props to Matt because this was the first time that he performed with PTX as an official member of the group.
This was the perfect song for Matt's first video. Not only does it showcase his talent, but it also shows how well his personality fit into the group. You just feel it immediately🥰🥰🥰

Not sure if you know yet, but Pentatonix's earliest videos, when they were trying to build their UA-cam channel, were often recorded with them all sitting on a shabby couch in one of their apartments. Ever since, they have occasionally put a couch in a video. This was recorded in NYC, because Kirstie was appearing on Broadway for 5 months in a musical called "Kinky Boots". I like to think that the room and furniture is a comment about how far they have come. They can all have their own piece of furniture now, and all the furniture is much nicer than their old couch, and there's what looks like a really expensive view.

I didn’t get into PTX til last fall so a lot of the reaction videos I’ve seen are from years ago-it’s fun to be on the journey at the same time as a reactor! Superfruit is definitely worth diving into as well. They use instruments since it’s just Scott and Mitch but their sound is so unique. As a producer you may enjoy Blinding Lights cover.

Maybe check out Kevin's cello-boxing in Radioactive, Say Something, Shallow and a few more.. I know he also cello-boxes in some Christmas songs. PTX owns Christmas and puts their own unique spin on tired old favorites. Enough to keep you busy for 2-3 Christmas'.
Can't wait to see more of their originals! Coffee in Bed and Be My Eyes are my favorite from the Lucky Ones album they released during the pandemic. They have a Popspring Concert from 2016 with 3 originals and the Michael Jackson evolution video they put together with their production support people.

This was the first official video where Matt was the bass singer. I fell in love with him immediately. Avi was wonderful, don't get me wrong, but the kind of music PTX is known for is so much more toward pop/top 40, and Avi was deeper and richer tones, like a cello player. Matt is more the warmer, more current tone. I can't imagine Avi in the Dynamite/Butter video, and I can't see Matt doing the solo work that Avi is so well known for. Please check out their individual work as well! Superfruit is Mitch and Scott. Kirstie has several solo projects, and Kevin is well known for his interpretation of classical and current hits being played with his amazing "Beyonce" cello. Down would be my first suggestion for Kevin's work. Guy.exe is my favorite of Superfruit, and well Kirstie...everything she does is gold!!

I’ve noticed that Scott tends to lead (like in this cover) because he has a bluesier sound so he tends to sing more in these songs-he also does the reggae and jazzier sounds too-Kirstie seems to shine in a lot in their Christmas songs…Mitch tends to carry their electronic and melodic sounding tunes, Kevin pops in to add a sweet touch but mostly is showing off his amazing skills and Matt’s has added a lot to the group since Avi chose to leave because he couldn’t handle the schedule anymore.
Matt adds a lot of depth and warmth to the groups sound-he has also started to shine more in their last 2 Christmas albums.

Oh this is one of my favorites from PTX! It is truly a masterpiece! I don't usually comment but I have enjoyed your PTX rabbit hole. They are great! If you have the opportunity go see them in concert.

I think you will love KO'S channel. Beatboxer, singer, song writer, master cellist and saxophonist (has played Carnegie Hall as a teenager twice with these instruments and also plays other instruments) arranger and producer. He is a musical genius! His cover of Down and Sign of the Times are great starters to his channel with lots of other fantastic music after those.
Superfruit with Mitch and Scott is another deep rabbit hole that is so worth discovering. They do everything from hilarious vlogs and musical skits, fantastic collaborations with other performers, sublime vocals and an entire album of original music called Future Friends. Just a few to start out would be Empire Medley, Beyonce Medley, Hip Hop Goes Broadway 1 & 2, Feeling Myself, GUY.EXE and just so much more! Suierfruit is just an amazing rabbit hole to jump into! Watch them all the way through as there are often bloopers at the end.

Also I know I saw (at least I think I did) where you did their Imagine cover, you should have picked up that the homie is gay. LOL. So yeah it fits. But if you watched the Imagine video, you should also know, it don't matter if he is, boi got the notes that's what matters in his singing. Know what I'm sayin'?

Pentaholic from their inception on the sing off… should try to check out some of the stuff from the show… they was practically babies they have come along way…found your stuff. A couple days ago now a daily visitor…. Couple quick suggestions depending on your mood… I know u heard imagine from everyone but they right… something little more upbeat 90s dance medley… and I can’t recommend enough my favorite original of theirs.. run to you… don’t care how many times I heard it that day still gets the hairs standing… keep up the great content

Why are you confused? First, it's just a song. Second, Scott is very very gay. So is Mitch. They are gonna sing about "him". They changed words to her and girl in the past but about half of their career they have been allowed to use the right pronouns. "get a pass?" hmm...
