If you do decide to try brioche again, see my one-color brioche scarf video (ua-cam.com/video/4E0rLm3_jXU/v-deo.html). I too had a hard time learning brioche, but now I love it. I love this pattern, and your instructions are great. However, I found I wasn't able to get the nice selvage edge on both sides. By using an even number of stitches and repeating the first row, I was able to get the nice edging on both sides. Thanks for this video, it makes a wonderfully warm, stretchy scarf.

    I would have liked seeing how you did the stripped scarf

    • @KnittycatsKnits
      @KnittycatsKnits  5 років тому

      Actually, I used a variegated yarn (Mandala Lion Brand), so it forms stripes as you knit. However, if you do want to use different yarns to form stripes, then you would simply break off the existing yarn (leave a 4-6 inch tail to weave in later), join the next yarn, and continue knitting in the pattern with the new yarn (no need for set up row again; just do rows 1 & 2 with new yarn until you reach desired stripe height, then join back the previous color or new color). Check out my video on joining yarn: ua-cam.com/video/vP_Q_WVKG4o/v-deo.html. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and best wishes😊

    This took me a while to get started but I finally figured it out. Thanks for the clear instructions. I am making a scarf and was hoping to do half of it in one color and the other half in another color. Is it possible to do this with this pattern?

    • @KnittycatsKnits
      @KnittycatsKnits  3 роки тому

      Thanks and great to hear that you are using this pattern. You can definitely knit with 2 colors (one half with color and then switch to another color to do the rest). You can just join the new yarn when you ready to start knitting with the second color (would suggest doing it after completing the 2 rows of the stitch). If unfamiliar with joining yarn, you can check out this video (ua-cam.com/video/vP_Q_WVKG4o/v-deo.html). Hope this helps and best wishes!

    How many rows so I could figure out the color block. Thank you.

    • @KnittycatsKnits
      @KnittycatsKnits  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Diana, the yarn I used (Lion Brand Mandala yarn) has different colors within it and so automatically knits up the color bands (the yarn label even has a picture of how the stripes/blocks will look). However, if you want to manually use different colored yarns (and join them/change them as you go), then the best way to know how many rows is to knit a small swatch in the pattern using a color/yarn of your choice. Then knit a few rows (counting the tows as you go) and measure the height. Then you will know how many rows = how many inches (or cm) of height for that color block. Then can plan to knit that many rows as you work on your actual project (scarf or anything else). Hope this helps😊 Thanks for watching and best wishes!

    To the uploader, I'm starting to work on this pattern. I was wondering if there is a printed pattern that explains the different measurements for the different colours? I have tried to determine the different sections but am having difficulties. If I could get an answer soon, that would be great. Like I said I've just started this and would really appreciate it.

    • @KnittycatsKnits

      Hi Dianne, the scarf shown in video was knit with a variegated yarn (Lion Brand Mandala yarn). It has in-built color variations, which naturally form the striped sections as you knit with it (so no yarn changes needed). Unfortunately, I don't have a printed pattern but have provided details in video description (click on drop down icon below video). Hope this helps😊

    Great tutorial thank you! The yarn you used is fantastic, lovely color combos. That isn't available here but many other types of LionBrand and others are so not an issue. I am curious though about the bulkiness as in the (#) they put on yarn labels. What size did you use for your finished scarf? Thank you

    • @KnittycatsKnits
      @KnittycatsKnits  3 роки тому

      I used 1 ball of the Lion Brand Mandala yarn (150 g), which is light weight (#3) yarn. In thickness, would say it is in between fingering weight and worsted weight yarn. But I think this pattern would look good in worsted weight yarn (medium #4) as well. May just need to cast on fewer stitches for same width. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and best wishes!

    P.s I saw some websites after I'm half way through. They tell to go 2 to 4 needle sizes lower for fisherman's rib. Do you recommend it?

    • @KnittycatsKnits
      @KnittycatsKnits  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Jeba, so sorry, I had typed up my response but looks like it didn't post. Regarding your question, Fisherman's rib has a very stretchy look and feel. So if you wish to have a bit more tighter look, then yes, going a size or 2 smaller than usual for a particular yarn will give it a tighter look. I like my scarfs (or blankets) to have more of a looser feel though, so I typically use the standard needle recommended for a yarn. But really its your choice. Thanks for watching my video and best wishes!

    I see that you made your project using the Mandala yarn, and it is very pretty. But to me, Mandala yarn seems to be too thin for me. Plus the knit belows are quite difficult to see, which is very frustrating!

    • @KnittycatsKnits
      @KnittycatsKnits  6 років тому

      Hi Patrice, yes agree that the Mandala yarn is a bit on the finer side, closer to a fingering weight yarn and it can be difficult to do the knit belows. I like it though because I can use it for lots of projects (like socks and hats). I think the Fisherman's rib is such a beautiful pattern though that it would look great with a thicker yarn, like a worsted weight (medium) yarns, like the Caron Cakes or other such yarns. Hoping you try it out with those and have an easier time knitting this. Thanks for watching my channel and your lovely comments! They are inspiring and encourage me to create more content. Good question, Alixanderia. I think I like the look of the stitch formed with the yarn over and brioche knits. Brioche was quite frustrating learning it at first, but once I did, I couldn't get enough of it. I guess could call it a labor of love (: If you want to learn more about these stitches, check out Interweave's post (www.interweave.com/article/knitting/fishermans-rib-vs-brioche-stitch/; the article appears to be more in favor of Fisherman's rib but has a very nice breakdown of the actual stitch differences). • @KnittycatsKnits
      @KnittycatsKnits  5 років тому +1

      Hi Tova, as mentioned in pattern description, actually the scarf measures 7.5 inches in width. The number of stitches cast on is 37. If you use size 5 (3.75 mm) needles, with 37 sts of the Mandala yarn, your scarf should be close to 7.5 inches in width. Hope that helps, but let me know if you have other questions. Unfortunately.. I’m having a hard time trying to knit with the needles. Idk if it’s because my hands are too big, just not used to it, or I just plain suck LOL 🤷🏻‍♀️ However I find loom knitting to be a lot easier for me. Do you think you can demonstrate how to do this on a loom?

    • @KnittycatsKnits
      @KnittycatsKnits  5 років тому

      Thanks, Selina! Unfortunately I have never knit with a loom and wouldn't know how to do this on one. I have seen videos of loom knitting and it doesn't appeal to me. With so many new techniques with needles for me to learn and hopefully share, not sure if I'd ever be able to tackle the loom. If you are new to needles, it may help to try out simpler patterns (Fisherman's rib can be challenging even for experienced knitters). You can check out some of my other videos, like the simple rib stitch or moss stitch videos. I am sure your hands are perfect for knitting; just a little practice and you will master knitting with needles in no time 😊

      Hi Christie, sure you can use finer yarn. You may need to check gauge to estimate the number of stitches for a scarf, as it will be higher number to get the same width. Suggest making a small swatch with the pattern in your yarn. Also, the K1b stitch may be a bit more challenging with a finer yarn, but I don't think it will be too bad.
