Today, I'm going through the supply list, which happens to contain TONS of my favorite mixed media art MUST HAVES:) We're talkin' everything from what surfaces you can create mixed media art on (canvas, mixed media paper, art journals & more), to collage materials, matte medium, gesso, mod podge, gelatos, and how to "age" background collage with transparent acrylic ink to make it look vintange! Ohhh la la!!
Don't know how to draw faces, or feel intimidated by that whole process? You're NOT alone! I never expect my mixed media students to to draw from scratch. In fact, I provide a TRACEABLE for every mixed media art lesson I create :) Some people might feel tracing is "cheating," but I really feel like it depends on the objective of your art project.
If your goal is to improve your acrylic painting skills, using a transferred image eliminates the pressure of drawing, and gets you to the FUN PART of painting and helps you reach your flow state FASTER (which is ALWAYS a good thing in my book!).

I can't wait to join this class!! So excited! Oh also, just an idea to share, even on canvas I have taken old dangling earrings and poked them right through the canvas as if to wear real earrings. Omg with costume jewelry I see that extra sparkle on her.

Hi Karen thank you for this great video ! ❤ I have a question : can I use newspaper and magazines for the collage and if I want to use 2d stickers, do I have to put them at the very end on top of the finishing sealer spray ?
Hi!! So you totally can use magazines but they (I gotta warn you) are a super pain in the ass to use! They wrinkle instantly and make your nice collage sometimes less than nice because of it. Newspaper is the much better bet. Old book pages and scrapbook and tissue paper make your life MUCH easier because they behave when they get wet! You’d put them on FIRST for best results although technically they can go anytime UNDER your sealer layer.
Thank you. Why did you seal with MOD lodge and not the Liquitex matte medium?
It has a slicker surface than Matte Medium (which is actually a precursor to my next step) and it is stronger than Matte Medium for gluing those feathers. There are plenty of fine art alternatives to use as well, here’s a video you can check out to see what I mean… (just give me one second while I dig it out!)
