Game: Fire Emblem Path of Radiance - Ігри
Correction: Incorrectly inferred that the reduction of effective damage to 2x was a localization change. This is false, it was double in the Japanese version too.
You should probably pin this so it doesn't get buried.
Yo what is the game with the dog chasing the sheep you used in the first clip?
This shit is why I love UA-cam. A 3 year old video about an already 10 year old game, but I'm an emulator who's going through a fire emblem kick so I'm watching basically your entire series. Good work man, well done.
About to play through my childhood again
Glad to see another season start! These videos are always really well-made and I can tell how much effort goes into putting your thoughts into words in a clear, honest and entertaining way.
Cheers Mekkah! And thank you for the shout out on stream!
I'm happy FE Juggernauts like Mek "Thracia" kah, have eyes on these, because they deserve attention. Great work dude.
The other benefit of Path of Radiance's support system was seen in Shadows of Valentia: it by gating off certain support conversations until later in the story, those support conversations can actually be ABOUT the story.
Think about it this way: in Fates, your support conversations could occur at any point during the story, which meant that they necessarily had to be disconnected from it. Saizo's supports were all about his one defining character trait (his distrust of everyone), and could never touch upon the story. He couldn't give his thoughts on the progression of the war or the deaths of certain characters because the developers had no control over whether the player would activate these conversations after the events in question.
Then think of the supports between Gray and Tobin. Because they are gated by the chapters, the two of them actually do get a chance to talk about their journey, and it's actually a great conversation as they reminisce not only on how far they've come geographically, but also how far they've grown apart from Alm as their childhood friend realizes his destiny. Path of Radiance can do the same thing, as the game will necessarily have to have progressed to a certain point before the conversation becomes available.
If memory serves, Mist and Jill actually have two different support conversations for one of the ranks, depending on if you do it before the chapter where you kill Jill's dad, or after. I think theirs is the only Support conversation in the series to do that
And the famous "If you have Jill talk to her dad, she turns Red, but if you've done that Support conversation with Mist, she can re-recruit Jill."
I just played PoR after a very long time and I was shocked to recall that the supports made sense with the progression of the plot. It's refreshing.
This series is just going to age like fine wine. Glad it’s back!
These are so well researched that they will be relevant for a long time.
Path of Radiance/FE9 together with Radiant Dawn/FE10 still has my favorite story in Fire Emblem history. The gameplay in FE9 is sluggish, but it's worth putting up with just to experience this fantastic narrative. I hope Nintendo will bring it to the Switch in some way!
I played PoR with a few cheat codes so I could focus on just the story.
I don't regret it. Steamrolling the game made even the slow gameplay enjoyable.
@@mads_in_zero did this for the original FF7 it was pretty great, i feel like it should be more normalized for rpgs.
Especially as a person who doesnt enjoy the traditional turn based battle systems that much.
Games like Chrono trigger and Suikoden 2 that have amazing stories deserve to be experienced
Arguably the best written narrative in the franchise imo
@@felixliu1269 Definitely.
@@felixliu1269 definately the one thing they really invested. Bar none, the best narrative in fe.
RIP Greil. He had a weapon triangle disadvantage =(
Second playthrough, it was all I could think about 😭
Lmaoo that cutscene had me yelling at him to take the damn sword and stop disadvantaging himself 😂
That was great, I like how you brought up how ambitious Path of Radiance was and how it brought the franchise forward.
Makes it even sadder to know how much its and especially Radiant Dawn's sales tanked.
I'll always have soft spot for PoR as the game that introduced me to the series and Tellius as a whole has to this day my favorite cast in the series, thanks to their characterization and how almost every character contributes to the narrative in a way.
PoR is probably my favorite FE game.
Same
This game fooled me into thinking I like FE games. I've played the Tellius games, Awakening, and Fates. There are a few characters here and there in the others I enjoy but I've stopped buying them. Nothing stood up to the story told and characters explored in this saga.
@@limitbreakplusultra7551 I kind of feel the same way. I really love PoR and I sorta like RD. The rest are kinda nostalgia bait for me.
I started playing PoR again recently, after a long enough time to forget many many details, and fell in love even more than before. I do wish it had 1 or 2 QoL improvements from RD or Awakening or Fates, but not at the risk of being unrecognizable.
I think it's funny that people say PoR is the easiest FE in NA but they reset anytime someone dies and are accustomed to turn rewinding.
That said, I probably going to run through RD and then maybe pick up another FE game, I've skipped a few and I'm due for a new one, lol.
@@limitbreakplusultra7551you went forward in time with the games. That was your mistake. Go back and play older games, and you'll find much higher quality. I still think the Tellius games are the best, but games like Shadow Dragon and Blazing Blade are great
Just a heads-up, you said you planned to finish the retrospective this year, but I would heavily advise you to take a break before three houses. Trying to complete that video is sure to burn you out and could very well sour the experience if you try to play through all paths within a month.
This is highly recommended. I got burnt out from three houses too.
Genesis from a person on my 6th route and barely past chapter 3. I absolutely agree.
Keep in mind that he's already completed up through FE12 and finished those retrospectives. He is now doing a "season release" for everything up to that point. He's almost done with playing Awakening now, I think. So while he may need to pace himself, I believe he's on pace to do Awakening, Fates, Echoes, and 3H by year's end without it being too crazy of a crunch.
@@RobbieBlair i mean he also said he completes each game twice so if he applies that to each route of both fates and three houses this might actually end up being a problem
@@bladehero8490 In his Patreon discord, he's confirmed that he'll only be playing each route of Fates and Three Houses once.
Easily my favorite game in the series, still don't understand how it sold so terribly.
Exclusive to a system that wasn't selling very well (roughly 21 Million units sold) came super late to it's lifespan
The only advertisements for it was on Nintendo Power (Smash Bros Brawl came out 3 years after Path of Radiance)
Yeah... I saw the commercials for it too, and they conveyed next to nothing about the game😒
It was the GC that sold terribly, and so it's games fell with it
btw, not that youd know this, but theres an error in the translation when it comes to Rajiaon, he isnt brought back to life and restored, he is simply able to revert back from forced laguz transformation through the galdrar of rebirth and say his last words to Ena before succumbing from his grievous wounds. English translation does not make this clear at all lol
For some reason I was never confused by that. Even playing the game as a kid, I didn't even know there was an error in the translation.
i didnt actualy know this that makes sense
I actually thought that was the case, but then replayed the game recently and realized that wasn't what it said, so I thought I was wrong
36:55 “As death nears, he has regained his sanity” is that not clear enough?
Hey, glad to see you're doing alright, Shane!
Thanks! Glad to finally be releasing this!
Be thankful that there's no Maniac mode in the English version. Also, in the next game, the difficulty translations are a bit jank. In FE10, easy is actually normal mode, normal is hard, and hard is maniac.
I thought that happened in Radiant Dawn
Tristan Miller It does, which is why he said FE10
Electric Serge I felt pressured from easy/normal mode so I restarted chapter 1 to normal/hard mode and had a very fun time with the difficulty since I was hooked for what’s next.
So JP easy doesn't exist?
@@inconemay1441 Not in wording. The difficulties are exactly the same though. Our Easy mode is Japanese Normal. Our Normal is Japanese Hard. And Our Hard is Japanese Maniac. Same difficulty just named incorrectly by incompetent localisation.
The Tellius games are very important to me. I really hope they make a return at some point, because they truly are amazing for their time and I think they hold up very well. The issues in the games are relatable, the characters are wonderful, and the emotions as you play are REAL. Don’t even get me started on the music, the story, replay ability, awesome skills, and beautiful character art. PoR and RD are masterpieces, through and through.
I completely agree. The when I first got the game, I thought it was more like final fantasy. But no. To me, it is so much more. I love games that take place in a knights and dragons setting. The themes are good. Because of this game I own and played all american released FE games. Fire emblem became tied among 3 to be my favorite video game franchises of all time.
My fondest FE memories are definitely from PoR with Ike's speech to the army about being family being my favorite Fire Emblem moment.
It seems that over-ambition is a thing that keeps coming back to haunt Fire Emblem even going forward
From Radiant Dawn, to Fates, to even Three Houses, they keep trying to shoot big and end up biting off more they can chew. Whether it be rushing the production, making messy design choices, or disagreements within the development team, there’s always something that makes it feel like they couldn’t deliver to the extent they wanted to, whether it be due to time or resource or both
The info conversations with Jill in particular really struck me. If you don't go through these convos, you're ABSOLUTELY missing out.
Just remembering POR brings tears to my eyes, and stalwarts unite is the BEST recruitment theme
I remember when this game came out, I spent all of my Christmas money on it that year, excited to check out Fire Emblem after seeing Roy in Smash Bros, partly because that's also my name, only do be initially disappointed when I realized that this game has nothing to do with him. Once I finally got through the whole game, I absolutely loved it. The $49.99 Game Stop price tag makes me smile Everytime I see this game going for $300+ on eBay these days. Just a shame more people didn't get to enjoy it when it came out
The devs stated that the game was only around 70% complete before they had to release it. That could explain some rushed resolutions like Rajaion. They may not even had an idea for a sequel when development started.
Also if you ever play Berwick Saga, you might notice some light similarities between that game and the Tellius games, despite releasing within a month of FE9. There are similarities in both gameplay and story. There's a theory that Berwick Saga and Tellius may have had shared origin from concepts discussed when Kaga was at IntSys. If that's the case, FE9 would have been more than half a decade in the making. So yeah, they did spend a long time fleshing out the game and story, maybe more than what we initially thought.
I've heard PoR and RD were at some point planned to be one game, although I don't recall a souce for that.
This should be a fun episode, let's see how effective the jump to 3D was
This gives me so much nostalgia. Between this and FE7, these are the games I played the most growing up and are my favorite FE games to date.
PoR was my first FE game and really got me into the series, as a result I see the way that PoR does things as they way they "should" be done (except biorythem, obviously) so it was super interesting to hear your take on many of its mechanics. Ike is also, by far, my favorite lord in the series, so I'm glad to hear you liked him too, even without the inherent bias I have propping him up on a pedestal as my first lord. Great video, and can't wait to hear your thoughts on Radiant Dawn!
By the way, as of now, the director of this game will develop a "spiritual successor" in the form of Redemption Reapers alongside the developers behind Ender Lilies. Look it up if you're interested.
I had the chance to purchase this game at launch and I regret not getting it so much after this. Fantastic video!
Man just listening to the music gives me chills. I love this game with all my heart and I thank you so much for this series.
I've been waiting for this! Glad to see you're back with another episode. Keep up the good work 👍
Murderous Rolf. God those parts of the streams were so much fun lol
I never felt the battle speed to be grating. I also think the 3D is fine for gamecube era. This was my first fire emblem experience and I come back to it every few years. I find it still to be very fun an engaging. Kinda weird to look at it as not having a sequel planned. Do that for any movie or game with a sequel and it leaves open ends.
Played it at launch, it was love at first sight. Thanks for the video.
Damn you UA-cam! This series has been around for 2 years and I’m just now finding it? What a great find this has been. Plus I got the Mekaha pitfall joke.
Very cool deep dive into this game, i subbed for that. FE7 and 8 introduced me to the series but PoR and Ike in particular is what made this series an all time favorite of mine. Can't wait to check out your other vids on the games that i missed out on because they never got an NA release. Keep up the good work!
First video of yours that I’ve ever seen. You made me remember what it felt like being in 3rd grade playing POR after I finished my homework. Subbed and I’ll probably binge watch tonight 😂
Another great video! Love reliving this amazing series with your insights :)
this video is AMAZING! thank you so much for making it!!
What a wonderful and thorough video!
I especially enjoyed the detailed story summary.
First time watching one of your videos. Honestly a very well crafted take on the game. The retrospective has a really good script and flow and it makes a 1 hour long video not feel too bad to sit through. Instant Subscribe for me!
"30 mins - 1 hour before next chapter"
hoo boi wait untill you reach three houses late game grinding and monastry gets up to like 2 - 3 hours
Wow that sounds... uhh... wow
I don't remember having to grind at all in three houses, maybe it's different on maddening?
(But yeah monastery can get tiring, you can skip it though)
The main battles are rather spaced out in Three Houses, though in between battles you got side quests, paralogues, and further raising the skills of the students. Not really in the lategame though.
@@skycaptain39 When your professor level is maxed and you have like 2 battles per week, it means if playing the best you end up doing 4 battles per month before the chapter, the monastry exploration on top of that takes about 20 minutes.
@@GamesBrained I wouldn't really worry about it too much the game is great and makes up for it in other areas (how customizable the game is) but of course i'll leave that for you to find out. Really looking forward to how you find conquest.
excellent video! After being skewed for so long in the never ending memes and accustomed mob opinions built after notorious "hot takes", it's really reinvigorating to witness a genuine honest perspective that can shine on the virtues of this wonderful yet flawed game, thank you for your work.
Found this channel from a really old collab video with Mekkah where you played FE7 Versus haha. I'm so happy I did because this retrospective was written so incredibly well (this is the first video I've seen from you)!
I recently started getting into Fire Emblem again in a similar way to this series-playing all the games in order for the first time, minus FE7 and FE9 since I'd already played them (FE9 was my first Fire Emblem game).
I'm on Fire Emblem 4 right now, and while I did like all the games up to this point, this video really reminded me of how much Fire Emblem 9 is still my favorite game in terms of story, gameplay mechanics, and especially the whole base system.
I'm gonna watch these retrospectives in order after I also play each in order haha, will be very interesting.
I love this series! Cheers!
Great video. One of my favorite games of all time. It was nice taking a trip down memory lane. I regret selling it when I was poor.
I love Greil Mercenery so much that in RD when they showed up I was hyped AF
Your videos are very well made, GJ and thanks
I love this!
Nice Mekkah cameo and amazing video
Great video.
Love Path of Radiance, such an enjoyable game. Great video!
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. THANK YOU!
Great video
I've always loved this game. Probably because I can reset for levels thanks to the bonus exp. Also the characters and maps are so much fun. I still get annoyed when I'm playing 3 houses and I can't shove somebody.
“And I can’t shove somebody” bro, there’s literally a shove combat art, where you can shove one of your units
@@tahamohammad8842 Yeah but I never seem to have it equipped
Superb video Shane. It's rather interesting these four games are the season 2, really curious to hear the backdrop of this "dark era" evolve as the games go on. I LOVE when you touch upon development history of each title, it paints an important picture.
Anyways fe9. not the most balanced game, not the most hardest game, but goddamn do I really love the story. Elincia, Sanaki, Reyson, Jill...there's a LOT of characters in this game in particular that I think are fantastic.
Nice
Finally, I've been looking forward to this one since the beginning of the Retrospective series, fantastic videos Shane!
I love these videos
I wonder what route you'll do first for three houses, granted that is a WAYS off, but it still has a big impact on your perspective of the rest of the game imo
@@partyharry7585 You recruited GD units when you had all the GD units?
POR and RD are my comfort games - I played them all of the time as a teenager over and over again. I love these characters ❤
Hello Shane! I haven't been a subscriber for very long, but I would still like to thank you for covering my second favorite game of all time. I did have to skip the story part of your video, as I am still trying to beat the game myself (imagine a person who usually plays the newer games on causal try to get through the game using Rhys as the only healer, and I am now kicking myself realizing all the things I did wrong), but I found your game play analysis very informative. So thanks!
I'm really glad you were able to enjoy the video! I try to make sure the parts with spoilers and without spoilers are well separated and flagged. Rest assured that the rest of this series will be done the same way too!
I would like to give you a spoiler-free piece of advice for Radiant Dawn. it is possible that certain story events will not be visible to you if you haven't done certain things in PoR and then did a transfer. Those story elements require very specific things to be done, and a second playthrough. I suggest looking into them after you beat the game. Those story beats involve Soren and they impact world-building tremendously.
I appreciate the spoiler free tips. No worries, I went for exactly that on my second play through
@@GamesBrained No problem. Just thought you would not want to miss out!
@@Vigilanteblade It was fantastic. I didn't feel it was that impactful for the world, but it was a nice closure of Soren's backstory
Finally!!!!
In description the gameplay section is called "order and chaos" but in the video it's "balance and chaos". Just... thought I should mention.
Oops, typo. Thanks for the catch
The playable characters cast in PoR is absolutely what makes it so great. There’s not a single one character who I found difficult to describe their backstory and personality. There are so many side characters who have little or no plot relevance, but still flesh out under the grand history of Tellius, thus make players feel for them, such as Jill, Kieran, Zihark, Haar, Stefan, Muarim and Tormad.
At the same time, characters in the whole Greil Mercs all have powerful emphasis writings and memorable moments in the story, which make them the most attachable group in the entire franchise.
Meanwhile, Intelligence System was also able to write these laguz characters in a fun way. From Lethe and Mordecai to Ulki and Janaff, these soldiers and retainers from another race are totally different persons, not just some Cain, Robert and Alba.
I've been hoping to play this game for two weeks now after buying it, but it's stuck in limbo with USPS. Guess I can live vicariously through your video for now!
oh you can play it on dolphin if you want
$200+ wasted.
Excuse me, what does USPS mean?
My favorite of the series
14:47 Love this scene
Great video as always but for the first time I have to disagree with one of your points, that being that the black knight in PoR is "sequel bait". You back your claim by stating that his identity isnt revealed despite him having history with gawain/greil and supposedly sephiran, implying that the black knights identity is something that needs to be revealed otherwise things would be left open.
I dont agree with this point of view because, while not given a name, the black knight in PoR has been identified enough to the point where his motivations, actions and relationships are sensical and fully explained.
BKs history with greil: We learn that the black knight was the former pupil of greil, a swordsman of legendary reputation. Besting his former master that has committed high treason and the idea of beating someone of gawains reputation in 1on1 combat is more than enough to explain the black knights relationship with greil and his actions that follow, like going against military command to get his duel against greil, "helping" ike to get his duel with him etc. There is no need to go further into his "true" identity because all his motivations and actions are already logical and mount up to him having his own character arc that gets concluded with his final battle against ike.
His relationship with sephiran: I dont see how this is something being left open in the context of PoR, the black knight one of the highest ranking military commanders in the daein army would be familiar with sephiran, the advisor of the head of the begnion empire. As soon as we learn about sephirans politcal position it makes sense why he wouldnt raise his hand against him, killing or even attacking sephiran would without a doubt provoke begnion and compromise daeins war efforts.
All in all I get where you are coming from, considering that todays media seems to be obsessed with giving nameless characters some tragic/deep/complicated backstory to the point where we expect it to happen, even if the character has had his own completed arc and an explored background that justified his motivations and actions.
Also it would be really weird if a game which was intended to have a sequel didnt leave a couple plot threads open for said sequel.
If not then tbat sequel would feel tacked on
I LOVE THIS GAME
This is my favourite Fire Emblem game and 7th favourite game of all time
If this is #7, what are your top 10 favorite games of all time?
This game is awesome, as is the sequel. I know a lot of people criticize it, but when I play it, I just enjoy myself, even if it's a little different from the gba games. Lots to love here and it's a shame it didn't sell well because critics actually thought it was rather good too.
The only thing i remember from POR is Ilyana tricking everyone into giving her food
Girl has a goddamn tapeworm, Tellius needs some medical advancements.
Alright I finally got around to watching this. Path of Radiance is my favorite FE game. It has it's problems, such as the game having a bit of a slow-pace, being very reliant on a sequel, and it's probably too easy for a hardcore FE fan, but I just love the story so much. The base was such a simple but great system that I just wish newer FE games would adopt again, as I'm not the biggest fan of the My Castle from Fates, and the bloated size of the monastery from Three Houses.
I will say, and this is probably preference, but I really like Canto, and I actually miss it a lot when I play the GBA and 3DS FE games. I probably rely on it a lot, but I like having a bunch of options in how I can approach certain situations, and what you described can be kind of stressful in the right situation. I feel canto does technically have one balance, but it mostly only existed in FE4, and it's the fact that it can happen to you. Fighting bird Laguz, or cavaliers can be terrifying if you aren't careful. But again, I get this is kind of preference. I don't actually like using Cavaliers at all in the games that don't have canto since they tend to not be as tanky as an armor knight, but don't have the speed of a Myrmidon, but I do appreciate their extra movement.
Anyway that's enough rambling about a mechanic that you're probably right about but eh, I like it.
What you had to say was pretty spot on, but I wonder what you'll say about Radiant Dawn. I feel that's a game where the ambition starts to topple the house of cards a bit, but I also think it has some of the best maps in the series (But some of the worst units.)
Great review dude! :)
@@vanjagalovic3621 I mean, yeah but it's just my opinion. I just like the versatility that Canto provides, but I'm sure I'm not providing the best argument. I will also add I don't like pair up lol, but I can admit that with that system cavaliers and fliers are really useful, but I just remember in Awakening I spent most of the game just dumping my weaker units on the stronger units because and at points it was necessary to tank stuff like ambush spawns on hard. Anyway yeah at the end of the day I'm just providing my perspective lol.
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance is one of my favorite Fire Emblems in the series, easily in my Top 5 Favorite FE Games.
Elincia is one of my favorite characters in this game and I think her story in the game was good.
I like to consider Elincia to be a Unofficial Lord in the Fire Emblem Series, because her Journey is very similar to other FE Lords in the series. I hope she gets a Legendary Hero ALT in FEH sometime the Future, she deserve it.
This was my first FE game and I've had a strong love for it since I first played it as well as a love for Radiant Dawn
When you're done with the series do you think it's possible to follow it up with ranking the series? With such a diverse series everyone's preferences differ so it would be interesting to see where yours lie.
This is my personal favourite FE game and this is a great video and I would like to see a remake at some point
I just love this game! This is the first game that got me to like Ike.
ill admit i haven't played any of the 3d games nor awakening onward so this is going to be a new experience for me lol
"sometimes i saw 30 minutes go by before seeing the next chapter"... yea just wait till 3 houses
Most guide I seen were always suggesting to give Mia astra and ditch vantage. I chose to keep Vantage and add Adept. She maxed out Strength Speed and Skill fairly early for me so she completely destroyed anyone who dared to get in her face. Most fights ended before the attacker even swung as she usually activated adept or a crit, sometimes both. Mia was my late game carry on my first run. Then naturally RNG decided to force me to bench Mia on playthrough number 2 by giving her garbage stats 😂
Mia is a really neat unit in the series that exemplifies the strengths of RNG stats.
Mia really only needs a few points in key stats to become a really good unit, and because of when you get her, you have a few chapters to level her to get them. If she gets them, keep using her, if she doesn't, bench her.
I loved this game and it’s sequel. Ike was my favorite in Smash Bros and got me into the games. Rehearing the story truly makes me believe that this should be made into an HBO show. The world building is incredible, tons of plot lines and characters, Ike is a relatable lead. I could just see this being like a GoT. I doubt it’ll ever happen, but a guy can dream
20:46 the mercenaries gonna ride till they can't no more
I did not know you could unequip items, in chapter 12 there was this super tight situation where soren got enough base speed to not get doubled by the raven boss but since he had 0 strength I had to trade away his weapons so he could tank a turn and then trade back to kill the boss next turn.
It saddens me that this game is the beginning of the "dark era" of FE, where the low sales almost killed the franchise :(
Indeed, especially considering how...I’d say FE9 is C+ personally, but FE10 was A material. Perhaps I’m biased: I was given FE10 first, completed Part 1, was floored when I found out there was so much more to the world and lore, got myself FE9 and beat it (to transfer bonus to FE10) and moved on to FE10. Loved it, wouldn’t give anything up.
@@AkaiAzul You remind me of when I was playing FE7, and found out that the game extendes way past Chapter 10😂
P.S. I love Radiant Dawn (in fact, it's my favorite out of all of 'em). Even so, I'd more than gladly give up the beginning of Part 4 and its 5 (arguably 6) filler chapters muddying the finale.😕
I have played this game over 20 times and I have never seen many of these characters.
Greatest game of all time.
My favorite Fire Emblem.
17:18 Never realized Ranulf survived TWO fights against the Black Knight.
30:17 LOL, what a troll that Zelgius
My first Fire Emblem game, which have the best protagonist in the series next to Hector and better than those deadweights, Lucina, Corrin, & Byleth; Ike.
@Exalt Chrom
Only because she's in Disgaea Emblem, where infinite reincarnations can make any unit a god among animals.
Yes my EXP bonus fed Rolf can solo the game, and I’m not ashamed of it
I wish this game gets ported. The story sounds very good
It is.
As a grognard that hates new things, FE9, and to a lesser extent 10 is the one exception I hold to the otherwise bulletproof maxim "new Fire Emblem bad."
I would kill for a remake of this game or even a remaster, can you imagine what it could look like on the switch lol 😂
This is my fav fe game. Probably the only fe game where i felt the story was both compelling and complete (j mean its not technically complete bcuz its a part 1 but yknow what i mean)
20:45 Y'all already know what I'm bout to say
57:54 Shoves 5 times to only move 4 tiles
(I get that this was probably a clip captured specifically to demonstrate shoving, I just thought it looked funny)
astra in this game is funny
I wouldn't really mind the 2.5 damage thing if it didn't also consume five durability. Even if you kill the enemy in less than five strikes i believe. Really chews through any good weapons you try to use on astra wielders, like the vague katti or brave swords.
Durability drop = # of attacks that hit the enemy (misses don't count, with some exceptions like the long-distance spells). If he kills in say 2 hits, it drops durability by 2. It's still a bummer, though.
In three houses it takes 8, but you can proc it whenever. Interesting what they did.
One new mechanic you forgot to mention, which I was hoping you might address, is the class "bands" you get on repeat playthroughs to make a unit's stat growths more like those of another class... for some reason. It always seemed like such an odd mechanic. I guess you could give a mage or priest the knight band so they can take a hit eventually, but then they'll be a crappy mage so why bother?
The bands simply provide a small boost to certain growth rates when equipped, around 5-10 percent boost.
Where did you get from that they make growths worse?
They're just flat buffs, not shifts. I wouldn't be surprised if one or two had a growth nerf, but generally there is no reason to not have one equipped to a unit, even if the stats being boosted won't super help them.
And then the Knight Ward is just Human Growth Hormone injected into the thigh of your favorite cavalier, because everything must die.
