  • How To Add Knit Stitches At End Of Row (2 methods - one for each end!)
    Adding stitches in the middle of a row can be done with increasing techniques such as m1, kfb or yo.
    So adding stitches to the end of a row uses casting on methods. But which method to use? There are literally hundreds of casting on methods documented. I'll show you today how I recommend adding stitches to the end and beginnings of rows.

    I can’t thank you enough for posting this as well as your comment about the types of increases for the middle of the row as opposed to the end of the row. My pattern does not specify which method to use. It just said inc at the end of the row and continue to work in pattern. Since my project has tons of mini cables, I was frantically searching for the correct method to use so I wouldn’t mess up my work. Four knitting books and many videos later, I came across your technique. Finally, a solution!!

    Thank you Hanna. I have been looking for a good way to increase a row without it looking "messy" and this methods works great. I had to increase/add in 35 stitches and keep it in pattern. The second method works perfectly and the end result so smooth. You rock!

The only question I have - after adding the 2nd set of add on cast ons, you said to knit through just like the other. Do you mean knit all the way across, through the main part as well as the first set of add ons?

    Thankyou Hannah. Your tutorials are consistently clear and to the point with excellent clarity in videos.
    I'm lost to find an answer anywhere for a pattern wording which is unclear to. Hope you don't mind just clarifying for me. Pattern for coat hood reads: Work in SS Inc 1 st each edge of next row 6 times. Does this mean I increase 6 st at beginning and 6 st at the end of the same row? I've never seen this before in a pattern and hope you don't mind me asking. Thankyou.

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks, Louise. I’m so glad you find the tutorials helpful.
      I’m thinking this actually means:
      For each of the next 6 rows increase a stitch at the end and a stitch at the beginning. Total increase, 12 sts over 6 rows.
      Have a look at the photo and the shape of the hood, and look ahead to find the finishing instructions. Sometimes the sewing you’ll have to do once you’ve finished the knitting will give an idea of the shape you’re supposed to be making.
      Happy knitting 🧶

    I need to add stitches to both ends of my work. If I add stitches, knit across my work, then add stitches to the other end, won’t my work be lopsided? The 2nd side I add stitches to won’t be on the same row I initially added stitches to.

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  Рік тому +1

      Usually with a larger garment, where we often do this, the slight difference (it's more like half a row) won't notice at all once completed. This is how all patterns big and small do this technique. happy knitting 🧶

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Tori, yes, you just follow the pattern - it will tell you whether to knit or purl or use a stitch pattern over the stitches you've just added. Happy knitting! 🧶

    Very helpful, would this work if when casting on , finding out not enough stitches?

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  2 роки тому

      You’ll want to start over if you’re right next to the cast on. Or do a make one/kfb when you find there are one or two stitches missing.
      I’ll usually start again from scratch, as a proportion of the whole knit casting on is a small effort. Happy knitting 🧶

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  2 роки тому +1

      For a single stitch I'd use a make one, for multiple stitches I use the same methods seen here, as the shaping is 99% of the time at a seam, so it won't be seen once the knitting has finished.

      I’d also suggest casting off ( ua-cam.com/video/3pKVKM7V5W8/v-deo.html ) and starting over as the first pieces that any knitter knits will likely be a bit wobbly. When you start again you’ll likely have straighter sides and you won’t need this video.
