This is based on true events. A little boy was killed while riding his bike (close to where Hansi lives), then not long after a little girl was killed in similar circumstances. So he wrote this song as the Fiddler (death) took the boy by mistake, then when he saw how lonely the boy was he found the girl that would have grown up to be his wife and asked her if she would come be with him. BTW - the lead guitar player is Jake Dreyer - who is currently with Witherfall (a killer group if you haven't heard them). There are a couple more videos from this concert that are worth checking out too.
i was there. my best concert of all time! its the reaper (the fiddler), a litll girl died from a car crash the trick of light turns red into green. it was a crash that inspired the song. the little boy was the reapers first fail ever. so the reaper found a companion for the boy... thats why the song gives hope. i´m glad you enjoyed it
BTW - the name came from Jon Schaffer's wife. Apparently he and Hansi were hanging out and she you 2 together are like a demon and an angel. Hansi said that "I am no angel, more like a wizard" - and boom!
That is Jon Schaffer from Iced Earth he looked a little younger when you both reacted to Question of heaven a year or so ago, but this is an amazing song indeed so glad you both got to hear it!
Fantastic reaction! This is one of my favorite songs from this band. You should check out anything live from 'The Warning'. 3 Sisters from Mexico. Dust To Dust is one of my favorites.
Here's another artist to give a listen, if interested, "Joe Cocker - The Letter in Live 1970 MAD DOG & ENGLISHMAN" (channel: Mike Holiday) --Joe Cocker's cover of this song "The Letter" was released in the US in 1970 and spent three weeks at it's peak on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The studio version of the song was not released until 2005 when it was added to the deluxe 35th Anniversary edition of "Mad Dog's & Englishman" the piano player is Leon Russell another late great artist to get into later. peace out~
The guitar player with the beard is Jon Schaffer from Iced Earth. He and Hansi have been friends since Iced Earth opened for Blind Guardian in 1991, and they decided to start this side project together in 1999. The band has since ended because of political differences unfortunately. Jon was protesting at the capitol and got arrested, everybody left him. Nice huh?
yeah i nerver liked his political thoughts but i love demons and wizards and iced earth so im very sad about it. and of course im german i love blind guardian
