#GMBN At age 72 and after multiple knee surgeries...In 2020, I jumped off my Santa Cruz Hightower and bought a Specialized Levo SL. The Hightower had 2,000 miles on it after 4 years; but, my mileage on that Levo SL was 5,500 miles in its first 3 years. Have recently upgraded the original Levo SL (35Nm) to the Levo SL Gen 2 (50Nm) which has 1,400 miles over the past 6 months. Will be 76 next week and celebrating my birthday with a long ride in the Sierra Nevada Mountains...if it is not snowing...LOL

At 62, with both knees replaced, e-mtb keeps me on the trails and I haven't had this much fun on a bike since I was 12 years old! I'm in my mid 30s and have a Trek Rail, I did more miles on it in first 3 months than I did in a whole year on the previous Trek X-caliber hard tail... I think they're great for people like me, moderately fit, very busy life and living in rural Wales where the rain coupled with steep hills in either direction of the front door used to be enough to make excuses and not head out... Not anymore, I'll go out for a blast whatever the weather and if I'm feeling a bit tried and worn out, ill just use more assistance from the motor, any exercise is better than no exercise 👍

I also use it for night rides so I can blast out to my local trails, have fun, and blast back in 2-3 hours in an evening. I still have a Hardtail MTB which I can take to the local trail centre and scare myself on the downhill runs😁when I want to see if I still remember how to do it!! Plus I have a road bike (don't judge me please) which I can also head out on for all day road rides. I don't hate any bikes I love them all and enjoy how different they ride and the places they take me.

I see e-bikes as giving riders a choice where or when to spend their energy. How you spend your energy is your choice. But, that being said, I must say I dislike it immensely when someone else's bad behavior impedes or revokes my access to shared spaces. It really isn't about speed or the distance that ebikes give riders but the questions sportsmanship and conservation the increase in ridership brings.

I'm finding it difficult to keep up with other riders or even enjoy my rides like I use to. I hoping an ebike will help me spend more time on trail and in turn. Keep me on a bike longer.

Just make sure you go for a torque sensor. Torque sensors just feel like you just suddenly lost 50 pounds(when you really gained 50 from the bike 😅), meanwhile cadence sensors feel like you keep getting a rope attached to the bike yanked forward periodically. Cadence is a massively inferior ride feel.

I'm pretty sure a large proportion of MTBers who don't want an ebike base this on the sort of bollox they get told that "once you try one you'll never want to ride your real bike again". Obviously like the bloke in the vid who only had room for one that's not an option for everyone and yes they are expensive. The overwhelming majority of my riding buddies ride both and time permitting ride their analogue as much as they did before they bought an eBike they just do another 2-3 rides a week extra on the e-bike. Nearly all those in our over 50's (and over 60's) who sold their analogue to buy an eBike have then gone and bought another analogue.. and many of us will often do 2 group rides in a day at weekend , one analogue and one eMTB.

Been riding and racing bikes for 25 years, road, cross, mtb. I was opposed ebikes at first, but the ebike is always first choice for me now, it's just more fun and gets you places you would never go on a regular bike. You can go for an all day epic in ECO mode and be just as knackered as with a regular bike, or you can go for a quick blast in turbo mode on your rest day. Hell, I combine it with other sports too: take the ebike to go trail running or ski-touring in winter. I even do my shopping on it. That said, I do think they make a lot more sense in hilly/mountainous places than in flatter places.

Anyone who hates ebike can come ride where we do. You spend up to 6 hours driving to the only good trails in our state. Then you find the climb to the top is so hard that for your 500 bucks in expenses and 12 hrs round trip you get 24 minutes on the trail. The climb is so bad its eagle the whole way. No one gets more than 6 runs in a whole day. I will let you spend all that money and time for maybe 6 runs. I will ride the ebike and get 25 runs in a day on one battery. The next day you will be too sore to ride. I will get 25 more runs again you will maybe get 4. Two weeks later you attend the race. Good for you. You got 12 runs in a year. I got 50 runs in 2 days. Ebikes are not for you. Go get your 24 minutes and stay out of my way. Its not ebikes that you hate. It's more time on the bike and being able to control your heart rate that kills you.

E-bikes look like a great way make the more boring sections of trail fun with sheer speed, but every time I’ve ridden one it’s amazed me just how effortless it is to go up the steepest of hills, which is a huge off-put for me as a big motivator to get back into mtb was the fitness side of the ride
(sure you can just run it on lower power, but when you’re pushing super hard & trying to get to your limits it would be too tempting to just click the button and fly up the hill when you fancy)
Also not personally a fan of all the extra weight & thicker frames, but I’m sure that’s only going to get better & better with time

I've always been a keen rider, but in recent years my health has ment that keeping up the fitness has meant less runs. Certainly at Peaslake I'm only able to get one or two in before my body caves. An ebike would mean several more hours of fun!

I've been sold on eMTBs for years. The only thing holding me back is money. I'll have one soon enough. I have asthma so I'm always the one on the back that everyone is at the top of the hill waiting for. I can't wait to be in front! 😂

I'm %2. Been on emtb for four years, currently have an Orbea Wild '21. I lost a third of my bodyweight on it with some nutrition changes. I thought I'd be able to go back to the Amish but, I had no low end torque. No power in the legs.
So I signed up with Johnny at fit4racing. 2 months in and I'm getting good power in the legs. On the road I'm faster on the Amish ( Orbea Alma m50 '23). So I don't need the ebike on the road unless I go through the trails on the way home from work (I'm in the wicklow mountains).
Apart from that, I'm actually looking to buy a regular full sus. Because now I'm working on my fitness, I see the climbing as a positive challenge. And I see a lot more negatives to emtb. For one; Buying them is not the bit that makes them expensive and they're difficult to maintain yourself. They're a lot of work for mechanics and you're going to start seeing hourly rates increase for ebike maintenance.
I'll be using mine sparingly from now on

Nothing against e-bikes. Most people don't like change. I plan to ride acoustic 4 more years until I turn 70 and then get an e-bike. Riding is the only thing keeping me sane these days.

The anti eMTB thing is just in North America. The rest of the world has moved on.
EMTB means more riders out riding. that means more awareness of mountain biking. That means more funds for more trails and more places to ride. More money can only be good for mountain biking. That doesn't mean eveyone has to choose an eMTB.
Ride what you like. Don't be a dickhead on the trails. Ride hard and often. Do a dig day at your local. Live long and laugh often. That's all that matters.

The problem most Ebikers are Dick heads! Its usually some fat or old dude, or chick! on a motorbike/ E bike thinking he’s or she is the 💩 because they can zoom past you with the assistance of a motor! Trust me I’m American 🇺🇸 and if you do that to me and your a dick about it! I’m talking 💩 back all day long! And the biggest 💩talking point is the Motor bike itself! It is what is Mate!💯

I have ridden ebikes. I think they are great fun, but they do flatten the trails. If trails are made for ebikes, then that might hurt the applicability of normal bikes. They are motorized bikes, so belong in it's own category. They should keep to trails meant for motorized off-road vehicles, or bike-parks.

I don't hate E Bikes, but I would never get one. They defeat the purpose I ride bikes for to get away from all the electronics. Having to plug your bike in before a ride is also a negative point for me. I am 58 and 70lbs overweight and I just started riding MTB and I still did not get one when I bought my full suspension bike.

I kinda want to get an ebike, but not a mountain ebike. I adore my current acoustic bike too much to want to ride anything else on trails, but I wouldn't mind having a bike that I can do a little travelling on, and an ebike would be great for that.

  • @steves5046
    @steves5046 11 місяців тому

E-bike / analogue bike, dose it really mater, if you're on a bike then you're out and about riding. You can't hate either, but the attitude of the rider is the thing. As for fitness, well that depends on how you want to ride an e-bike. I am about to turn 59 and I love my LEVO. An hour ride at the local mountain bike park will see my average heart rate around 135 BPM with a peak in the high 150"s , a VO2 that is in the top 10% (according to Garmin) so you can not use fitness as a excuse for not having a e-bike.
