Especially if you have access to a mini fridge in your dorm, I would recommend a Brita pitcher! My roommates and I shared one last year and it was the best thing. The worst thing about it is remembering to keep it filled, and my sink wasn't big enough for the pitcher to fit under so it was a pain. The Tide pods were amazing to use, highly recommend them. I didn't really need wrinkle spray, but bringing a collapsible drying rack is something I should consider to get. My college is located in Ventura County in CA, so the weather is normally amazing. However, we still need a fan (or ten) for our room to keep it cool! My advice for that is to have multiple- one in front of your window and at least one that you can move from your bed to your desk, if not one for both. Also, keep your door open especially at night so that the air is circulating and it will definitely cool down your room faster! The only thing wrong with keeping plastic utensils and paper plates/bowls is having to keep them in stock. I would often be the one buying them, but everyone would use them. If you can, bring some reusable ones and just keep dish soap and a sponge on hand, or make sure that you don't share the plastic and paper stuff if you don't share the cost. As for sheets, it's a great idea in theory, but you definitely will not want to make your bed all the time if it's lofted or bunked. It's not easy and I probably almost fell off of mine a couple of times. Mattress pads are NECESSARY, it will help you be way more comfortable on that bed than if you didn't have one. I used earplugs every night because of constant construction near my dorm throughout the entire school year, but you're going to want multiple sets... They get gross. I had some that I could still hear my alarm through and some that I couldn't hear a thing, which was great for weekends. Sorry, I just went through the list and gave my thoughts on them.... It's a lot, but they definitely can be worth it!
If you're too lazy to watch the whole video she recommended:Tide pods, mini streamer, A fan, room spray, a drying rack, paper plates&forks , extra set of sheets, medicine, a mattress pad, ear plugs, a power strip.
If you guys don't want to watch the whole video this is what she talks about tide laundry pods, wrinkle remover spray or a mini steamer, a fan, room spray, a drying rack for your clothes, plastic utensils/paper plates and bowls, extra set of sheets, medicine, a mattress pad, earplugs and a power strip.
bed risers! depending on how your dorm beds come, they can be so low to the ground. Using bed risers allowed me to have extra storage space under my bed
Ugh these are so helpful. I'm super excited for college and med school (five years). Yes I actually want to be a surgeon I'm not being forced to by my mom
another item that can be helpful is a small size air purifier. You won't have to dust as much, it will help with air quality (and smells down) + it makes white noise so you won't hear all the sounds from the hallway and the room next door :)
Rugs! Bring one big area rug or multiple smaller rugs because it makes a space way more homey, and also my dorm had hard floors so it's good to make them a little softer with a nice rug
My advice is to still bring a fan even if your dorm room has air conditioning! Odds are, the university has control over when the AC/heat is available and at my school (in central Illinois), the school turns off the AC in the fall around September and didn't turn it back on until the end of April so a fan was necessary!!!
Heres her list: Tide pods, mini steamer, fan, room spray, drying rack for clothes, plastic utensils & paper plates, an extra set of sheets, medicine, mattress pad, earplugs, power strip :)
I'll be a junior in college this year, but watched this just to reminisce on the excitement of freshman year. Great tips, girl. I know I used all of those things in my dorm.
LOVE the college videos. I found you b/c of them. I was not looking for college vids, but it was recommended to me on youtube- most likely because I'll be a freshman this fall
Ah, I remember when you had 12,000+ subscribers and now you have over 200,00! I love watching your videos and getting an insight of your life. You're a really cool person, Tasha!
Love this! I leave for my freshman year in less than a month and I was on the fence about bringing some of these things but now I'm thinking of getting some of them.
A fan is a must! and a drying rack is so smart because my roommates and I just hung our bras over the shower curtain rod which lead to some interesting times when boyfriends came to visit
Love these videos, I'm in an early college high school program so I will be going straight into my junior year after high school and these are very helpful!
I would definitely recommend something like Tide to Go to get stains out of clothes. Also Command hooks and strips are a life saver when hanging things on the wall!
I used to watch your videos in 2013 before I had a UA-cam account and then I stopped for some reason but I just got recommend this and I think I'll start watching you again (just subscribed)
I totally agree with your point about tide pods, they are so useful but one thing to keep in mind is that they are more expensive than laundry detergent (only slightly but it can make a difference) so if you're on a really tight budget keep that in mind
Something I totally recommend is a diffuser it's a small (you can buy bigger ones as well) air device thingy you can buy essential oils that smell good but the different smells do different things such as relax you stress relief and help you sleep I got mine from Amazon for about $15 dollars mine was medium size. The oils really are t that much I totally recommend this for collage and just daily life at home as well:) I reccomend lavender which helps you sleep and citrus with is a stress reliever it totally works! You just add water in the water compartment add an oil of your choice and there you go the oils last long because you only need about 5 drops each use which lasts me about a day and a half I use it at night as well
I'd recommend reusable plastic cutlery and utensils, due to lack of recycling and that video of greenpeace how much effort goes into producing plastic cutlery...but I get your point of view, it sucks doing dishes without a kitchen
Love your videos! it is convenient that you are a year older than I am so these college videos are so helpful. I will be attending Loyola University of Chicago and your college tips will definitely help me. Thank you!
I didn't bring a drying either, which wasn't the smartest thing especially with delicates that you can't dry so I'd hang them on a hanger then put it in front of my fan. Definitely an extra set of sheets like actually 6.
this is for the people who don't want to watch the whole video. so bring tide pods not big containers, wrinkle remover spray or mini steamer, a nice high powers fan if your school doesn't have a.c., bring room spray, a drying rack, plastic utensils and paper plates, bowls, cups ect., an extra set of sheets, medicine like Advil and Nyquil, a mattress pad, ear plugs, ear buds or head phone's, a power strip.
Pods are super convenient but make sure the washers there are made for them because I knew a few people who's clothes got ruined by the outer lining of them! Just a tip!
this was so helpful cause i"m the first in my family to go to college so i have no idea what to bring omggg thank you tasha!!! NAU bound baby ;) go Lumberjacks!!
Super useful video! I was so concerned with the fact that I would have to use the drying machine and it will destroy my clothes but I will definitely try the drying rack
The other reason you want a mattress pad is to cover the mattress. Many people have slept on the same mattress before you. The mattress could be gross... don't think about it. It's a good idea to put something a little thicker than a protector and a sheet on top. Improved comfort is a bonus!
for the washing machine pods - i'd check with the washers that your hall has first because my college had old washers & we weren't able to use the pods - we had to use liquid detergent

do the brita pitchers fit in a mini fridge? what size did you have??
I want to say we had a 6 cup one? It fit really well in the door!
If you're too lazy to watch the whole video she recommended:Tide pods, mini streamer, A fan, room spray, a drying rack, paper plates&forks , extra set of sheets, medicine, a mattress pad, ear plugs, a power strip.
Judy Bari The video starts at 1:54.

bed risers! depending on how your dorm beds come, they can be so low to the ground. Using bed risers allowed me to have extra storage space under my bed
the school that I plan on applying to said that we're not allowed to bring bed risers. do you have any idea why that would be?
+Sydney Horan some dorms have beds that are adjustable. My dorm has drawers built into the bed, so risers don't work.
Woo! Getting excited for university this Fall!
i love how I'm watching college videos. I'm going into high school this year lol. Great vid though. I love your channel
You always look good but I definitely love your hair and makeup in this vid.

The Pods are a really good idea. But just make sure your college's washers allow them. Some of the older machines don't work with them
Love these videos, I'm in an early college high school program so I will be going straight into my junior year after high school and these are very helpful!
