Had a German Shepherd. She was full of energy and go go go....walks would not tire her out. I had to get a bike, and she would run by my side while i biked. She learnt the commands slow down, stop, left and right while i rode the bike. Her favourite activity was going to the beach or park and chasing the birds around. She was the last dog in her litter, and the breeders had called her "little running dog". We got her a few months after my wife and I wedding. She was our baby before we had kids lol..She loved camping, hiking, running, fetch, chasing birds, Playing in the backyard with our kids, and guarding our house..about 2 months before her 11th birthday, i took her for a walk and only managed about 100m as she just turned around to come home. She had never wanted to return home from a walk. We knew something was wrong. She had no energy, could not keep any food down, and lost her appetite. She just wanted to rest by our side. Unfortunately, things went downhill pretty quick from there. We made the tough decision to put her down about 1 month before her 11th birthday. Was a sad day for our family. But we will be forever grateful for the memories and having Ava in our lives. ❤
We rescued one from a shelter. This was my first GSD and I didn't read the handbook or watch the indoctrination video beforehand. She really tested me when we first got her and I did consider taking her back... But I didn't. A friend at work told me to wait a year because she'll change.... So I did. She has become one of the greatest family dogs I've ever known and I love the sense of security and her sense of humor!

We adore 🎉 our FEMALE DDR. So very loving loyal and true! ❤ you doing a wonderful public service to display and explain this fabulous dog. Ours will literally grin when getting belly rubs
Great video. I was lucky enough to adopt a female GSD about three weeks ago as a stray from a guy living in an apartment nearby. And in short like yourself, it's been a life changer. I have gone from being virtually sedentary to being more physically active than I have been in decades !! I absolutely adore this dog. I found out that she is actually a pure bred GSD complete with registered parents etc. I was floored when, pulling up to the location where she was adopted, Charlotte ran up to me and cuddled against me as if we had known each other for years! I had been adopted, I was told by my girlfriend. And now new to the world of GSD's, I am on an incredible learning curve and I am very glad to be on it.
I agree that German Shepard’s definitely need to be taken care of and treated well . I love my grandson Yogi he is my sons German Shepard . We treat our yogi like a king . Yogi weighs 89 he is very active and so smart ! I love your video I can see how much you love your dog . I just got done throwing ball with my yogi ❤️❤️❤️. I am healthier because of yogi 😆.
We had an abandoned shepherd here in our nighborhood 4 weeks ago and it stayed at my neighbor's house. He was looking for a home for him so my husband and i walked over there. We think she was abandoned and abused. Shes about 8 months and in heat. She has completely changed and consumed my life. I had no idea how much work it was going to take care of this dog and train her. I do a lot of what you described. I have had a lot of frustrating days with her but some amazing days with her too. She is stubborn and does not want to do what I tell her to which frustrates me.ninhave trained an Akita and a rotweiler/shepherd mix and my girl is smart.....too smart. I had to get me some training tools that wpuld help me to be successful with her because she is getting big and strong. Im a small woman and I amm 55yrs old. She is kicking my butt but I love her so much and enjoy being with her when she is not in heat of course. Shenis so moody right now. Thanks for sharing.
I own a working line GSD. He was to calm and had some challenges so his training for becoming a police dog were cancelled. The owner/trainer start looking for a good family for him and thats how he came to us. He has drive but he is also very calm. As long as he has three walks every day sprinkled with mental challenges and different training and an occasional possibility to run he is more or less always calm and very much a couch potato. He never get zoomies inside. If he want's attention he comes to us and give us a hint. Very often he bumps my arm with his snout or he sits in front and presents a paw often combined with his eyes pointing to the stairs telling us there is something upstairs he want. Last walk is something he want around 2130 and he might tell us. Otherwise he want some form of training, treat or play/toy. He is a perfect match for us and we do not find it very hard to stimulate his needs. If we are short for time we can always take him somewhere where he can run and play. This is what he enjoys the most regarding exercise and it sometimes can be a good time saver. A tired dog is a happy dog. I would not recommend a working line dog for single persons or couples not fit for exercising the dog. Also GSD's bond tightly to their owners and do not enjoy being alone for long periods. They follow you everywhere and want to be where you are most of the time.
Awesome video with a beautiful dog!! Have had my GSD pup for about 2 months and I’m loving it. Thanks for the info!! Also, you should make vids with your beard care routine. Your beard is 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Well, with our black German Shepherd we definitely don't have furniture that color! Actually we've been nothing but lucky. He doesn't really shed that bad. We're also lucky that our guy never needed a crate. He does pretty well by himself. But definitely needs 2 hours of exercise every day. Yes, I have to take him out, even when it's raining. The best part is I don't even mind because I love him so much.
I hope for the better. I love mine more than almost anything. I loved him so much I got a female puppy Western shepherd which I have wanted for four years. I had him fixed a couple years ago. That helps mellow him a notch but I wouldn't underestimate him in a challenge. He would win. All you have to do is l LOVE AND PLAY WITH THIS DOG. Your reward will exceed your own expectations because this dog is on another level intelligent wise. I have no distructive issues. He preferred to work outside protecting and watching. He will prefer to please me as far as obedience. I also know a responsible breeder. German Shepherd
I did two years of research and did work to find and the right breeder for a working GSD. I love every moment with my GSD, we got her @ 3 months. Fortunately, the current situation had me @ home to deal with her demands. She looks exactly like Oden.
Dear Sir, Odin is a gorgeous dog & clearly much loved & well cared for. I've just got my second one ( medium coat) after an absence of 34 years; I just forgot just how good natured they are & just like my first one follows me everywhere (toilet included!). They are truly a one man/woman dog & never seem to stray of your sight. I live on the 3rd floor & he nudges me with his nose or puts his two paws on the bed to remind me he needs to relieve himself in the back yard ( not trained to so but from his own initiative). The loss of hair & combing is definitely not an issue for me as I am familiar with it & accepts it as being in the nature of the breed. I noticed that most G.S.D's tend to be rather well looked after ( at least in my neighbourhood) as owners take a certain pride in their charge. A most noble breed with great attributes; always alert & gentle with all members of the family. I agree with your good self; deprive him of his exercises & destruction will happen. Best wishes & kind regards.
When I die , if I get to meet god , the first thing I will do is thank him for letting me have two ddr working line shepherds , right after that I will go find them .
Very informative Video, gorgeous dog. This is 2nd time i am watching this video. I looked at one your reply to another viewer where you bough the dog. If i need additional details on who you shipped the puppy and more details on the whole buying process will help. Thanks

Fantastic dog, scary identical to mine! Super active, endless energy, but its okay, if you are handy w a tennis racquet ez exercise, aaand you can so easily train this kind of dog, not just w treat (food) but ball as well!
I just bought a 5 month old female, Shes been pottie trained.... Take her with me most days .. Long walks, Lots of play will keep these guys in check..... That being said dont expect a labadoodle.... They want a job and willing too earn it dailey😅.......
My DDR is now 5 months old we still learning together but already I know it’s the best thing I ever done he is incredible ❤ such a bond already …. Even if he’s at the terrible teens right now 😂😂
My only problem with them is they live a short life.I lost my chihuahua one year ago and she was almost 16.I still cry when i remember her. These dogs are really my favorites but they last 10 years or maybe 11.I dont wanna suffer anymore
I rescued a GSD last summer. He was already 4 months old. My husband said he wanted one. Although I’m the one at home, who has to do everything w the dog and kids. Omg….it changed my life also. I realized very quickly what I actually had on on my hands. I have been relentlessly training him. He is so amazing now. He’s been the biggest challenge of my life, and the most rewarding. And since I’m the one who does all the work. Literally all the work. I train him. I play w him. I feed him all his food, snacks and treats or bones. I do brain games w him. And I take him on all his walks. I groom him. I love him. So naturally, the dog loves me most. lol. 😂. Sorry guys, you snooze you loose! 🐕. He’s the best companion now. He goes w me everywhere 😊
I see a lot of comments about doing research for a couple years before deciding on a GS. I too am at two years, have decided on a working line GS, have talked to a breeder. However, I have one fear. I currently have a GS mix so I know the exercise that's needed however she is older and has been my best friend and I am worried about making her last few years chaotic. She loves puppies but she's always just had me. I don't want her to feel like she's being replaced but I would also love to have a hiking, snow shoeing, training buddy again. I don't want my current dog to get depressed when she sees me taking the new puppy out. It's a really hard decision.
Hey, you have an amazing dog, he is so handsome, I love it, god bless him! I live in Cologne, Germany, moved here one year ago, and want to have an east German shepherd working line just like yours, but I don't know which breeder I should go for... Do you know any good breeder where I can have good, high drive, and healthy German Shepherd just like yours? Love the channel, by the way :)
Hey thank you so much. Odin is a amazing German Shepherd. And if you’re looking for breeders of more information on East Germanshepherd. Look up this Facebook page they have a lot of breeders out there in US and outside US. facebook.com/groups/519668824749467/?ref=share
I got a gremen shepherd sometimes i really reqert it the shedding the grooming the vet bills its not his fault but i had him for 5 yrs now and planning too keep him because of the bond we have toward each other the sad part will be saying goodbyes at the end of his life he follows me everywere
GSDs are beautiful, and regal and DDR are the the most beautiful out of all the lines. I think they are closest thing to the original GSD, by look, their coloring, straight back, and they are healthiest out of all the GSD lines.
Yes my female DDR dog do the same, somebody advise me put pine cleaning liquid soap in the soil to stop her, the problem is the size of the fence, but if her bite some tools or other things, spry axe antiperspirant deodorant, and if it's possible armorall, and problem solved, she doesn't bite that object again
One thing about living out in the country my German Shepherd, puppy jenny loves playing outside walking around the big pasture. Big dogs like German shepherds, they are not a couch dog they do sit on the couch some not a lot. Dalmatians are the same way chasing rabbits Different things.
Thank you so much for the great video!!! Iam about to have a GSD puppy. Iam doing mountain biking and want to take him with me on my bike rides. Based on your experiences how many kms can a GSD run on a daily basis? Thank you so much!
Bro I love the working line german shepherd but I have experience with only small dogs till now (11year old pomeranian and 6 year old shihtzu). Is is recommended as I am an introvert myself and don't like to walk with my dog everyday outside (as I don't do it myself). But my house is kindof big in a remote place and I need a dog for security who will be very intelligent (require least effort in training), have a calm yet aggresive temperment and would gladly give life if needed for my family's protection. So should I get the working line GSD and if I take a female will that be a better decission as I don't like them humping on me in during heat or something else.
I think you are missing an important point. A good working line GSD is not naturaly agressive, they are very confident in their strenght so they are calm around people or other dogs unless provoked. They are also very good at identifying threats so they are not naturaly aggresive to any random stranger but they can easily identify someone with a suspicious attitude and become more alert and ready to attack if needed. Also they are fearless and won't hesitate to protect you. If you have a somewhat active lifestyle and you involve them in your activities they are a joy to have and way easier and more intuitive than people think
Hello! I love watching your videos! I was actually commenting regarding where you were able to find Odin? Was he from a breeder? Or did you personally know the owner? Please let me know, I have been searching for working lines like Odin for a while! Thanks!
I got Odin from a Florida. The name of kennel is Icerk9 I know the breeder because I talk to him multiple time and asked all the questions and he answered all my questions and was very helpful up to this day I still talk to him to get help on things . This is the link to the kennel. icerk9.com/
Treats are raw chicken thighs bone in, chicken wings and beef with bones. I agree, she is on me. But, she has learned to obey other family members. And, she comes from 3 generations of good stock.
My working line german shep that is 50 50 west german working line and czech line is now much more low key and chill than your DDR is, I take her out every morning for half hour of play and half hour off leash poking around and she is absolutely pooped when we are finished.
I'm laughing at everything you are saying because that has been the experience for me with my first GSD (Czech / Belgian history). I love him to pieces but there's been so much to learn and life changes.
would they be fine as an adult if you exercise them in the morning and give them like a bone marrow bone then they be left alone for 8hrs while im at work
I got myself a part Czech line part west German working line, and lemme tell you, you are absolutely correct about them being wired. I didn’t have her as a puppy so she is extremely sensitive and has very low thresholds and I am running off my butt trying to address it and build her confidence
Serious question - if I wanted a sable gsd but don’t want to train him like a working dog but go on hikes and other activities would that be fine or no don’t get one? Cause everyone’s saying don’t get a sable gsd cause they’re working breeds
Sir how much time we have to spend with these kind of dogs in a day to keep them calm plzz reply im getting one like this but I don't either it is ddr or Czech how to know exact breed sir
In the beginning you have to spend lotta time socializing your dog so dog can stay calm in the house or on your walks. You can also give your puppy some toys and stuff to keep him calm throughout the day. The way you can tell what line your dog is from you can ask your breeder they will know and look at the Pedegree as will.
When you received the dog you must carry time to time in your arms to make it confident, give him food on your own hands, to develop a solid bond with him, in the first walks use chest leash, then walk him one round to the the block, then 2, but try that the dog don't develop fear to any special thing for example bikes, cars etc. Then at 4 months for vaccine reasons take to the Park or the woods, etc. In my case my female at the beginning get exhausted with 500 meters at 2 months, but little by little, now walk 7 kilometers a day, by the morning, 2 days a week 10kms, and all nights a walk of about 40 to 50 minutes, 6 days of the week because I rest all Sunday ☺️. This dog needs love, care he is like a kid, and exercise their intelligence teaching new things and respiting constantly the already learned, when the dog go older 2 or 3 years, became more stable, and more quiet but never ever change and became a tipical domestic dog, always gone a be a DDR, so it's a fearless dog, is very loyal, suffer a lot with separation of his owner so need to be very socialized, because don't forget is a dog, don't thing is a simple puppy, if you don't care fine and teach him with common sense and teach him to atack like a game you are going to autogenerated a great problem for the next 12 years. And worst you can cause a disaster to others, if you have a dangerous dog you can go to jail for injured inocent people, and believe me, it's a very very dangerous dog. So if you decide with hand on hart that you always... no matter if you are tired, sick, in bad mood or whatever, care of your dog, go ahead and invest 2.5 K USD in a dog that became, your best friend, always loyal and faithful
Sir my gsd puppy have tears in his eyes always soo what to do for this problem any suggestions because vet always said he need medicine and he give me his medicine but they don’t work for him

All I can say is - you could have been talking about my dog here. 2 - 3-hour runs and training sessions are a must :) All the best.
Hey thank you so much for watching my video. You are right because training sessions are a must if you want your dog to be calm and relax in the house
Beautiful dog. Good info. My beagle mix was high energy. Lost her last year at 15 years old. One of the saddest days of my life.
We adore 🎉 our FEMALE DDR. So very loving loyal and true! ❤ you doing a wonderful public service to display and explain this fabulous dog. Ours will literally grin when getting belly rubs
The only thing he got wrong is that it’s not a German shepherd it’s a German shedder
I love your dogs name yogi. I don’t know what’s with German Shepherd they always love chasing the ball. Thank you so much for liking my video.
German Shepherd Dad Your welcome
Great video, I have a Czech line GSD I love mine I have 2 of them Rumba is required lol
Thank you for the advice. GSD are the best dogs
About to go pick up our German shepherd in 2 days. Been watching your videos nonstop!! Appreciate the content
Your beard is 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Thank you so much for watching my videos and giving me the idea to do a video for my beard I will think about it lol.
What a great dog. Handsome boy
That is awesome that she looks like Odin. It’s always good to find the right breeder when you settling for something for life
Dear Sir,
Odin is a gorgeous dog & clearly much loved & well cared for. Best wishes & kind regards.
great human, great dog!
Thank you so much
That’s a beautiful coat
Thank you
I just got a West German working line pup. Awesome dog so far. I plan on competing in protection sports with him next Spring.
How did you find a breeder?
@@asfreeaschrissy he was referred to me by someone in my training club
Thank you! My favorite color and best damn breed in the world. Please advise people on proper socialization too.
Absolutely that’s what my new videos about how to socialize your dog and the importance of it
When I die , if I get to meet god , the first thing I will do is thank him for letting me have two ddr working line shepherds , right after that I will go find them .
You have an awesome GSD..
Very informative Video, gorgeous dog. This is 2nd time i am watching this video. I looked at one your reply to another viewer where you bough the dog. If i need additional details on who you shipped the puppy and more details on the whole buying process will help. Thanks

I'm happy your happy with your dog
I've had gsds most of my life beautiful loyal dogs ❤
Fantastic dog, scary identical to mine! Super active, endless energy, but its okay, if you are handy w a tennis racquet ez exercise, aaand you can so easily train this kind of dog, not just w treat (food) but ball as well!
Beautiful puppy!!!
I have a Czech line. I love her to death, but damn is she a ball of energy. Fortunately I work from home and have the time for her!
Even if he’s at the terrible teens right now 😂😂
Good information thanks
Thank you So much for watching my video
Beautiful dog, my ex took my DDR shepherd during divorce and saddens me to this day 😢 Cant wait to get another one, they are the best!
Lots of info.Thanks for sharing.
Thank you
Odin is beautiful. I have had only GSD. I have a female name Karma. I live this breed they are the best.
My only problem with them is they live a short life.I lost my chihuahua one year ago and she was almost 16.I still cry when i remember her. These dogs are really my favorites but they last 10 years or maybe 11.I dont wanna suffer anymore
I totally understand and I’m so sorry for your lost
@@germanshepherddad8588 thank you.
Absolutely you are right.
I brush and vacuum atleast twice a day. And, when Roxy is in the yard, I must keep her busy. Otherwise, she will dig holes.
I feel the same nonstop cleaning after them
Yes my female DDR dog do the same, somebody advise me put pine cleaning liquid soap in the soil to stop her, the problem is the size of the fence, but if her bite some tools or other things, spry axe antiperspirant deodorant, and if it's possible armorall, and problem solved, she doesn't bite that object again
One thing about living out in the country my German Shepherd, puppy jenny loves playing outside walking around the big pasture. Big dogs like German shepherds, they are not a couch dog they do sit on the couch some not a lot. Dalmatians are the same way chasing rabbits Different things.
Could you please share if there is a breeder that you’ll recommend.
Might try to get a western german shepherd wl or sl.
Good luck they are a lot of work
Beautiful Dog
Thank you
Thank you so much for the great video!!! Iam about to have a GSD puppy. Iam doing mountain biking and want to take him with me on my bike rides. Based on your experiences how many kms can a GSD run on a daily basis? Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for the great question and watching my videos. The longest hike I ever took my dog was 6 miles one way.
@@germanshepherddad8588 Thank you so much! :) You share great details about the working line shepherd!
I am looking for a DDR shepherd. I am in California. Not sure where you are located. Would you share the breeder where you got Odin? Thanks
Odin is very loved and spoiled……The way all dogs should be………🐾🐾✨💫💕⚡️
Bro I love the working line german shepherd but I have experience with only small dogs till now (11year old pomeranian and 6 year old shihtzu).
Hi, is it ok to keep my 2 years old working line gsd 7 to 8 hours in his kennel while I'm at work ?
I think you are missing an important point. A good working line GSD is not naturaly agressive, they are very confident in their strenght so they are calm around people or other dogs unless provoked. They are also very good at identifying threats so they are not naturaly aggresive to any random stranger but they can easily identify someone with a suspicious attitude and become more alert and ready to attack if needed. Also they are fearless and won't hesitate to protect you. If you have a somewhat active lifestyle and you involve them in your activities they are a joy to have and way easier and more intuitive than people think
maybe i missed it on the vid. what do you feed him?
This is the link to the kennel. icerk9.com/
German Shepherd Dad Thank You So Much!!
Which ones are his parents?
Scottie Westfall sire is Ole and dam is Goldie
Will dog puzzles and kings filled with peanut butter keep them busy? I'm willing to go for a 4-5 mile walk, but only once a day.
Beautiful DDR. Where did you import him from?
His sire was imported from Germany. I got Odin from Icer K9.
He is biiiggg
Cheers from Germany
Thank you so much
Good info.tq
Thank you
Where did you buy him from? I want one like that one
No hate or anything but why is he wearing a prong collar if he isn't using it and Is inside ?
Well said bro.
Thanks bro
My gsd puppy is 5 weeks old but has no drive, why is that so please?
What is your daily training routine?
How much exercises does a German Shepherd need ?
do you keep that prong collar on at all time?
Not always I remove it once we come back home from the walk but that particular day my kids had to take him out for their walks
Treats are raw chicken thighs bone in, chicken wings and beef with bones. I agree, she is on me. But, she has learned to obey other family members. And, she comes from 3 generations of good stock.
Hey thank you so much for watching my videos and agreeing with me
there is also a west german shepherd which is split in 2 - work line and - show line...
Damn, I'm trying to get a working line german shepherd. I'm trying to pick from West German, DDR, or Czech German Shepherd.
Good luck and I hope you find the right fit for your family.
German Shepherd Dad you said the Czech is the hardest drive one right.
What I meant was Czech line has a very high drive. Basically means you’re gonna need to put them on a treadmill to get them tired lol
German Shepherd Dad I have a field near my house I can run for hours there
beautiful dog.....
Thank you
Where do you get these working line German shepherds exactly?
I bought Odin from icerk9.com/forsale
also what type of sable is odin, do you know? cause im thinking of purchasing a german shepherd.
PursueFN Odin is dark sable German Shepherd
My working line german shep that is 50 50 west german working line and czech line is now much more low key and chill than your DDR is, I take her out every morning for half hour of play and half hour off leash poking around and she is absolutely pooped when we are finished.
I'm laughing at everything you are saying because that has been the experience for me with my first GSD (Czech / Belgian history). I love him to pieces but there's been so much to learn and life changes.
Thank you so much for watching my videos.
would they be fine as an adult if you exercise them in the morning and give them like a bone marrow bone then they be left alone for 8hrs while im at work
AR7 Absolutely you give them enough exercise in the morning they should be fine for eight hours. that’s what I do some time with a Odin.
I dont understand why you would leave him outside, dont you have a backyard or dog proof room?
you are very helpful
Thank you
I got myself a part Czech line part west German working line, and lemme tell you, you are absolutely correct about them being wired.
I didn’t have her as a puppy so she is extremely sensitive and has very low thresholds and I am running off my butt trying to address it and build her confidence
To crate this type of dog, or any dog for 8-9 hours a day is cruel and inhumane.
u got no idea
Do they get along well with your kids? (How old are your kids?)
He gets along with the kids perfectly. They are 14months old, 11 years and 12 years old.
Serious question - if I wanted a sable gsd but don’t want to train him like a working dog but go on hikes and other activities would that be fine or no don’t get one? Cause everyone’s saying don’t get a sable gsd cause they’re working breeds
Awesome video 👍👍👍
They are not needy but protectors, hence it looks that way and they don't like loosing site of you
Sir how much time we have to spend with these kind of dogs in a day to keep them calm plzz reply im getting one like this but I don't either it is ddr or Czech how to know exact breed sir
@@germanshepherddad8588 Thank you so much for your response sir
Sir my gsd puppy have tears in his eyes always soo what to do for this problem any suggestions because vet always said he need medicine and he give me his medicine but they don’t work for him
I am picking up my female working line german shepherd March 29th. First time GSD Owner.. Any tips?
Make sure you do lotta obedience work with your dog and extremely important socialize your dog as soon as possible With people and other animals
how’s it going man? i’m looking to get my first
Nice dog, why does it have spines on its neck, and it's tight?
Beautiful GSD!
Im confused ... ive been researching a little ... i was initially interested in a belgian .. but i read their drive is too high ..... i also read that the czech german shepherd ..altough bigger in size ... they are a little more laid back ...... but ur saying otherwise ...
Oui c'est le même caractère qu'un berger malinois
I have ADHD and would like a crazy german shpeherd with endless energy
