Yeah, because I'm sure people that walked into Avengers: Infinity War on opening day with a concealed smart phone with the camera function ready had the MOST noble of intentions.
@@teruienages962Well, there are scenarios where a film has a limited release and people who happened to have the film recorded on a camcord have it released on another source. Otherwise, that said film would be lost. An example would be 'My Neighbor Totoro's' sequel short "Mei and the Kittenbus" released exclusively in 2002 for Ghibli museum visitors in Japan at the time. Someone managed to record footage of the film, and it's out there online if you search for it. If we didn't have that recorded, then the short most likely would be harder to watch. Just an example
What a crying shame that there’s an entire movie gone to the ether. Lost media is never fun to discover when you have no leads. Even if this trailer doesn’t give us much, your work is really appreciated!
Thanks for that information. Roadshow has a particular meaning in film distribution in English speaking countries so in this case the term has become a "false friend".
I'm someone who considers myself an enthusiast who looks into media adaptations of retro games, and I never heard of this before. Really impressive video! I hope this movie gets found someday.
This was the first game I ever rented for NES. It was right after my parents divorce and my dad had his new apartment. It was the first weekend he had me without my mom around after the divorce. We also rented Ghostbusters 2 that weekend.
This channel does not disappoint. All the information from famidaily, the current run of year of FDS, all your other random videos, and now actual lost media??? Never regret my subscribe to this channel!
Cine Libre is a chain of arthouse/repertory theaters. There's a couple in Osaka and I actually went there to see a restoration of Videodrome like last year! They don't tend to get as many patrons as bigger cinemas (as you'd expect). Kind of an interesting choice, but then maybe they weren't into art cinema back then? Oh, read the account of the first screening and I get it - it WASN'T Cine Libre at the time. That's what you meant when you said it changed. Oops.
I'm not sure if that location was acquired by Cine Libre or if the name changed. But all of the pictures were current pictures from the movie theater where Xevious premiered.
"Might want to post about this on the lost media subreddit. They've been very good at tracking down some really obscure stuff." Only if the media is for 1-4 year olds.
I love the optimism in this comment section that all it takes for this movie to be found is if the lost media community gets involved when realistically as stated in this video the only plausible way for this to be uncovered is for it to leak.
Two things: 1. This makes 28 comments; this means there's likely as many people talking about this as there were people who saw it total on first screening (including staff). 2. Someone needs to find this movie and dump it. The film was made; no matter how bad it is, we should be able to see it.
That Xevious movie has been in my mind since I was a kid! During the fourth grade in elementary school, I absolutely obsess about this game and even the Solvalou spaceship as well! Even my friends and teachers know about my obsession with Xevious! Not only that, I read the Xevious comic book version on shifty look back in 2012-2013!
This was an extremely cool and special video to watch, it’s like seeing a piece of history! You’re the coolest, I’ve been loving these occasional videos on niche topics outside of year of FDS
Amazing, haha. What a fun little investigation. I have these Xevious pillows at home, they were sold at TGS. Although there never was a Xevious manga or novelization, there was a Game Book adaptation.
I just had a browse through Yahoo Auctions and found a novelization called "Xevious: Fardraut Saga". It seems to be known within the Japanese community, but what copies I could find for sale were too expensive for me to buy just to satisfy a passing curiosity. The gamebook (like Fighting Fantasy) looks interesting though...
Aaah tower of druaga anime is so good!! Yeah theres a lot of missed potential there, especially near the end but i found the show itself really endearing
Ahhhhhh! I’ve been so fascinated with this movie since stumbling across the Lost Mediia Wiki article. I saw your Pro Golfer Saru video last month, so I guess I made it just in time!
I’m a huge Namco fan and this is the first time I’ve heard about an Xevious film. I don’t think it’s surprising the film is not fondly remembered given Groove Corporation were responsible for that Genma Wars TV anime adaptation.
I'm not a die-hard fan of Xevious, but I was definitely looking forward to seeing the video on this movie! Seems like namco really had a thing for CG movies I mean look at the Galaxian 3 series. amazing stuff and here's hoping it somehow surfaces someday!
I like that the footage of this bears a hilarious resemblance to the first 10 seconds of the opening of the first TV season of Galaxy Angel, except that looked better. This feels and has a soundtrack that's closer to Transformers: Beast Wars.
I am amazed how much the main ship looks like a Gunstar from The Last Starfighter, which itself had the look and feel of something Japanese. I mean, the alien makeup, all the ship designs and the Gunstar pilot uniforms could be dropped in a Japanese action/sci-fi flick and it would fit, whereas I don't think any American movie really looked close to it.
Now I'm curious about the Xevious RPG book. Was it actually an RPG system you played with a group, or was it more a choose your own adventure with maybe some dice rolling mixed in?
At this point, I'm kind of distracted by the billboards of a-ha: The Movie. Apparently, it's exactly what you think it is, and was released three years ago. Looking at this trailer... yup. This is definitely the kind of thing that you'd find on a Mind's Eye DVD. Same Silicon Graphics-level animation quality. Still better than Space Thunder Kids.
Maybe it was Namcos' attempt to one up Squares Final Fantasy The Spirit Within, which was released a year earlier in 2001, and after FF bombed, Namco decided to cut the budget to zilch.
Yes. Yes, it is. Actually, I never could figure out if it was official or not. It came across like something a person wrote and self-published without a license.
@@RndStranger It was published by Futabasha, a legit company that published other Namco novelizations, and authored by Masanobu Endo himself. You can't get any more official than that.
@@JohnnyUndaunted The version I could find used that same cover but was self published on Amazon with no sign of Endo's name on it. So it left me a bit confused.
Never say never to this movie being found one day dude. There's been so much lost media uncovered in recent years. Aside from the subreddit like one person suggested, I suggest maybe even posting this on the lost media wiki, as well as maybe informing some lost media UA-camrs like LSupersonicQ, to help further spread the word.
No wonder this got locked in a vault.. it has "tax write off" written all over it. Looks like the animation company rendered it on an N64, then added public domain transitions.
Judging by the descriptions we have, being lost media is the only thing that makes this movie interesting; if it had made it to DVD I'd have zero interest. But now that it's lost, I'm interested.
Oh woah reBoot looks better; amazing that it wasn't even deemed worthy of being dumped out to direct to video to rot in clearance. they knew it didn't have a chance
@RndStranger wait there's a correct way to say Xevious? I assumed it was one of those names that had differing pronunciations with no clear right answer
This is why people who sneak camcorders into theaters are the real heroes

What a strange piece of video game history this is!
My best bet is that movie had a lot of flashing effects, some viewers throw up and nobody saw it afterwards.
I heard the writing was dogshit and nobody like the plot

SO THAT WHY THE BEST OF VIDEO GAME MUSIC CAME OUT THEN
Is that where 'flying into the base' a la Star Fox came from?
Considering this came out nearly a decade after Star Fox, probably not
star wars the frame was ep 4 and 6 death stars
80% of Star Fox is a rip off of Namco’s StarBlade arcade game
New Hope is best Xevious movie.
That CGI got SOUL
Oh woah reBoot looks better; amazing that it wasn't even deemed worthy of being dumped out to direct to video to rot in clearance. they knew it didn't have a chance

Masterpiece CGI? It looks like one of those early Pixar shorts or that lost Jimmy Neutron pilot.
I have absolutely nothing useful to add, so here's a random comment to feed the all-consuming algorithm to which we all shamefully bow.
15:15 WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME
"Ehx-ehv-eous"?
Since there's katakana, we know the intended pronunciation is zev-ee-us.
ZEE VEE USS
It's pronounced WITH A LONG E.
The title is ゼビウス, not ゼィビウス. So the correct pronunciation is zeh-vee-us.
