    Felt sorry for Elina. She didn't know whether to walk to the net to shake hands or ignore it completely. Avanesyan spends most her time in Europe, yes, but primarily in Spain. A young player shouldn't be burdened with geopolitical drama.

    There's a good question asked by an official of a non-european country. When asked about world support for the Ukraine war, he said why should the world always be burdened with European problem but Europe never cared too much about problems outside of Europe.

    If she was to make a stand, she should have refused to play Avanesyan.

I am not Palestinian nor am i Ukrainian but both issues should be spoken about by anyone who has a platform and has opened their mouth about humanitarian issues. Svitolina and whoever this chick is seem to only talk about the crisis in Ukraine when worse is happening in Palestine for a lot longer. The same energy that tennis has done for Ukraine like banning russian flags! Should be done against “Israeli” flags. Its an apartheid state and their flag should not be allowed at tennis matches or on the scoreboard.

    ATP, WTA have a policiy of no politics whit strong sanctions against it, why do you think you never hear any player talking in detail about any political issue.., imagine if Djokovic would talk in detail about what Nato did to his county, he only talks superficially and never critizise the west.., and that is Djokovoc.. imagine whati s left for lower ranked players.. they can utter a world about any political issue that may be close to their heart.., yet here.. they give Kostyuk a whole press conference to speak about Ukraine in such detail and whit such losseness i don t think i have even seen in years of following tennis.. ,

    I'm sure Elina feels bad about the situation, like every Russian does. Ukrainians and Russians are fraternal people, after all. Sports should breakdown political barriers to show individual human qualities, no matter what flag you represent. Beauty will save the world ~ Dostoevsky

      dyunya, vanya, other sranya. First: spelling error: ruSSian, ruZZian, putlerian or simply orks. Second: ruSSian never were fraternal to anyone nation. U want break barriers - pay to Ukrainian War Fund - fastest way to end war.
