Guys, I just want to reiterate that this is my EMERGENCY strategy for when I can't focus and am alllllll over the place. It's definitely not how I normally work, but it really helps when I'm having a distracted day. Hope it helps you too!

Briefly summing up your KAIZEN method (small improving stesps) approach:
    2:00 Small Tasks
    2:19 Small Deadlines
    4:10 Small Rewards
    8:15 Quickly Written Random Notes
    THANK YOU !! :))))

Wow, I find this really helpful. I suffer from depression and that can greatly disrupt my focus. It is just a fact of life and everyone is on a spectrum as far as how well they focus on any given day. I often feel like I have the discipline of a 5-year-old. This really helps by giving me a plan of attack for those moments when the focus is an issue. This sounds strange but I would have assumed you don't have days like that. It is a silly assumption, so I want to thank you for sharing this video. Nice to know you are human despite appearing to some of us as "superwoman" . I really hope that doesn't sound as cheezy as I think it does. Please take it as a compliment. Thank you again and please take care. I will see you around the internet.

Breaking big tasks down into smaller ones is definitely helpful! Once you do the first tiny thing, the second and third become easier and easier. Thanks for sharing, cheers!

Love this! One thing that helped me has been to figure out what causes my lack of focus and what my red flags are. It helps me figure out how to avoid it. And my BIGGEST cause and red flag is a lack of self care. I’ve usually been working too long and that lack of focus is telling me I need to take a break, meet some other needs, and come back refreshed and ready to tackle it. It always feels like I don’t have time to do that, but I do it anyway because I always find it actually SAVES me time (I’m massively more productive when I’m refreshed). I’d be curious what other people’s causes and red flags are!

This is the BEST tactic i've seen for this kind of situation. Thank you for sharing this and being very real about the emergency situations this is for. I will use this.

You say a small reward would be tidying up a part of your desk...personally I would most likely get distracted and spend all day tidying the whole room/house :D

Thank you SO much for this breath of reality!!! I’m really looking forward to trying out these techniques.
At the moment my life is in crisis mode but I’ve got brilliant support so I’m working towards my goal. I’m generally exhausted and have a hard time focusing on tasks because of it. I absolute recognize that it’s not the optimal way to work but if it can help me get through this period of time - I’m willing to give it a go!
    Thank you!!

Great post. I would like to give a testimonial that this really works as I have practiced it myself. I don’t believe there are accidents in life as everything happens for a reason. I just came across your channel & saw this video. Today I just literally finished writing my first E-book and the way I have been doing it is by setting my alarm for 5 mins but most times I’ve gone on for about 10 minutes or more. Thanks Gillian for the great post!!

The only problem is that inaction can snowball into more inaction. The five min hack can eventually snowball into action.
What I do when I don't feel like working on work is to work on something related to not working... I started writing a song "I'm a Slug Today ". I finished the chorus, three verses, and a bridge... on my next unproductive day I have to start recording it. I don't know why but this motivates me to keep going and focus.

This is how I succeeded in college
I broke assignments down into small components on my calendar so while everyone else was doing the whole thing last minute I was finishing it up
This was how I succeeded with a busier than normal schedule for the average college student

I have to focus on the cause if I'm to overcome lack of concentration. My cause is Fluctuating hormones. Its amazing just how much hormones can disrupt brain chemistry and scatter a person's thoughts. I've been able to be productive despite this by using some of the things you mentioned here, but the main thing for me is trying to eat healthier (sugar is the main culprit to cause hormone imbalance in most people) and getting work done early while my brain is rested and fresh. Also turning off notifications on my phone, sometimes even turning my phone off. Some days though I'm still not as productive as I'd like.

I think Gillian these are quite effective technique if your mind is distracting significantly. Mind works better with variety. Giving small tasks just a bit of push or a step to initiate them will get things rolling. It's all about taking first step and journey goes on and on. Sometimes regular, Sometimes a bit Fast or Sometime like a Snail. Getting Things Done Matter whatever the state of mind. Just keep it going consistency and actions are Keys to the destination.

Hello, again, thanks, I'm feeling a little stuck on the build your audience step. The Instagram following is growing quickly, but folks rarely hit the heart and so far no one has answered a question or made a comment. Well, 70 are following now. Likes are typically now 8 per share. Hopefully, some interaction will start soon.

Have you noticed you usually touch your hair before you begin speaking in your videos? Not bitching, just something I’ve noticed.
