    Good job! I bought mine,can't remember how much it was,it was few years ago. I think they are called stovepipe baffles. Mine is about 18" long,and 6" in diameter,made of metal. I take my feeder down in the summer. I put the pole through the baffle,and hang it with some wire,and drill a hole in the lawn,and push the pole into the hole.

    Thanks for posting.Looks cheap and effective.Will try this as the birds are getting a raw deal in my garden. Squirrels eat voraciously and have high energy needs as they are constantly active.The bird food is gobbled up by the squirrels 24/7.I will make this device.

    If it has a shepherd's hook top this won't work unless you have a 30 inch diameter pipe. And my bird feeders Bass has a foot bar that is eight to nine in across where you put your foot on to drive it into the ground. So again unless you have an extremely large diameter tube this won't work. Then I was thinking of cutting of small opening just enough to get it onto the pole but I would imagine that might industrious clever squirrel with simply figure out that's where he needs to grab to hold onto to get to the top.

      Same issue with my shepherds hook Dale. you would have to cut the pole in half, to insert the PVC, then weld it back together. I keep hearing about the Vaseline. I've tried axle grease, but it doesn't seem to be 100 %. Maybe I'll try it.

      @@joequillun7790 I used a multi tool to cut the 4” PVC lengthwise and opened it enough to slip over the shepherds hook. I had to modify the cap to be able to get it around the top of the hook.

    I wish I could get a better idea of how you attached the PVC cylinder to the pole

      Cut off the bottom of the shepherd’s hook so you will have a straight rod. Thread the capped PVC (spray paint it brown, please....naked PVC is ugly). Use your imagination to secure it on the pole. Hammer a pilot hole using a rebar.insert the pole with PVC protection!

    I was able to find glass table tops about 3 to 4 feed in diameter. I mounted the glass to the top of a wooden post. A small circle of plastic is secured on top of the glass table top.
    Some short bolts sticking through the bottom of the feeder with holes matching the in the circle for the bolts to sit in hold the feeders in place on the top of the glass and allow the feeder to be easily removed for filling..
    One glass was from an outdoor table and had a center hole from it's previous life. The other needed to have mounting holes drilled through using an inexpensive diamond coated hole saw. The glass is too wide for the squirrels to get past. Simple and decorative.
    I have never had a squirrel or racoon defeat the glass blocade

    How did you use wires to keep it up? This looks great and very inexpensive.

    Would black ABS pipe work? Might look a bit nicer.

    My Shepard's hook has a horizontal piece that sticks out at the bottom to stabilize it in the ground. How did you get the PVC pipe over the post? I don't see how it would fit over either end.

    • @jeil5676
      @jeil5676 6 років тому

      you can cut a line verticaly through the pipe from top to bottom and force it over the pole maybe with a circular saw or something

    I can't count how many times I have seen extremely determined relentless Squirrels overcome this obstacle lol - The best thing to do is simply rub olive oil on the pole - Its virtually impossible for any rodent to climb up it - They slide down every time lol

      The oil eventually dries or comes off with repeated attempts by squirrels to climb the pole.

    That looks like 4 inch PVC to me

    • @sandkeyfred
      @sandkeyfred 3 роки тому +2

      I agree, looks to be 4” PVC. I made a similar one. Got the idea from another UA-cam video. I put a slit down the length and slipped it over shepherds hook, put a cap on it and applied ArmorAll to the PVC & had fun watching the squirrels attempt to climb it and slide right off.
