Dr. Rhonda Patrick's Salmon Roe Stacks Recipe

  • This short recipe video shows a fun and easy way to consume salmon roe. Salmon roe contains between 40-70% of the omega-3 fatty acid DHA in phospholipid form compared to just 1-3% found in fish, making it a somewhat unique source for a type of omega-3 that biology might suggest may have a unique role: for example, humans and some animals have a transporter specialized for the phospholipid form of DHA called the Mfsd2a transporter.
In animals, if the transporter is deleted more than 60% of their brain's DHA is depleted. Humans that have a mutation in the gene that encodes for this transporter also have been shown to end up having early neurodegeneration.
Salmon roe is also high in astaxanthin which is responsible for the pink color and has been shown in human studies to reduce biomarkers of oxidative stress.

Hey, guys! This is a quick one showing an easy way to eat a food that is one of my favorites and one I've talked about quite a bit: salmon roe! It's a little bit of an acquired taste, but I think that this healthy combination helps with the palatability. I also talk a little bit about my logic behind why I started eating it.
I hope you guys like this video. I'd like to do more of these in between my longer podcasts so that we're not going _so long_ between each video. Obligatory plug: as usual, if you want to show the channel a little love, I have a crowdfunding campaign and throw in little bonuses for those supporting the channel like an occasional members-only webinar. You can learn more about that at foundmyfitness.com/crowdsponsor. It's totally a pay-what-you-can thing and if you go the patreon route, there are some nice community features too.
    Thanks for watching!

This is a bit off topic was hoping to ask you a couple things. I had rectal cancer 3 years ago and looking at a possible lung met right now. I'm 40 single mom no family...scary times. In one of your videos you mentioned folate feeds cancer and another you say fatty acids can be bad for cancer too. I'm trying to get my calories from fat. And I don't know what to put in smoothies if I shouldn't have leafy greens?? Or can I? How can I keep my weight and muscle with no protein and no fat? Thanks😉

      Totally unrelated question.
Any research done on prunella vulgaris?
I am certain it dramatically reduced the severity of my influenza a year ago . Took 2 bottles of a drink made from it when I first developed sore throat and running nose. And from past experience I know I will get aches and fever and cough for at least 2 days. I had no fever no aches just slight lethargy and cough.

If I could add to this by saying I recommend GENTLY rinsing/ washing the salmon roe with cold water before eating it until the dirty milky cloud that appears when you put the roe in water goes away.

In one tablespoon (15g) of salmon caviar you get 350mg of O3, a little more half of that is DHA, in Amazon it costs near to usd 90.
Eating caviar is just for pleasure not for nutritional advantage... Because in the papers they use for testing 2gr or more of O3, with less than that don't expect anything in healthy people.

Doesn't fish roe typically have PFOS though? Humans and animals who are reproducing typically tend to "offload" their PFAS/PFOA/PFOS etc. onto their progeny, so you would expect fish roe to have concentrated sources of these "forever chemicals", which you don't want inside your body as only women can remove these chemicals from their bodies and only via lactation through breastmilk or through childbirth as these chemicals can cross through the placenta during pregnancy.

I'm convinced that animal fat and protein is optimal nutrition. i eat organic fruit (pears, apples) but I'm not so sure about leaves anymore. I've noticed inflammation with vegetables, i think it might be from the soy, canola, processed crap. when i eat high fat meat i feel nothing but satisfied. when i eat veggies, and lean protein i crave just like carbs

I have great respect for Dr. Patrick who provided me with research details of what a good diet is for my health and that of my patients. Everything make sense until 3 items were mentioned : Ikura Alaskan wild salmon roe, Great Lake Gelatin powder (Beef protein), and Vitamax Blender. I have no problem with the latter as I bought one and it works well. However I have doubt about the Ikura Alaskan wild salmon roe and Great Lake Gelatin powder (Beef protein). Salmon products are highly contaminated by ocean carcinogen pollution. Even the government is giving out warnings. As for the beef gelatin (which was mentioned by brand name) it is a pure animal protein. It increases IGF1, Promotes TMAO and mTOR pathway and impair renal function etc. She may have some theories to rationalize its use in smoothies but I would rather not risk it in my healthy smoothies. If I want to risk it, I might as well enjoy a fatty gelatinous piece of grilled beef steak. I shall continue to follow and thumbs up Dr. Patrick's channel as she is still the only one who makes sense due to her phD and research back ground.

I know you posted this a while ago but I wanted to respond to this for future readers. That's why you can't just pick and choose "healthy" foods to incorporate your already shit diet you need a lifestyle change and overhaul. She also goes into other foods such as cruciferous vegetable such as broccoli cabbage brussel sprouts etc but especially BROCCOLLI SPROUTS that is high in sulforaphane; isothiocyanates, which detoxes mercury and benzene and other things if you get a high dose of sulforaphane in your diet after. One day you can excrete up to 60% of these toxins in ONE DAY.
