I am from Scotland and what you say under #1 only applies to the very elite courses - nearly every course you can hire ride on golf carts now (including likes of Gleneagles when I’ve never felt any pressure to walk or get a caddy) also most courses you rarely need reservations unless you are looking at a weekend morning and they are mostly super friendly and not formal. Of course lots of tourists do just focus on the elite handful of courses, there are over 500 golf courses in Scotland.
