Play Your Cards Right Theme Music - Full Version (Brucie Bonus Mix)

- Take the theme music by Alyn Ainsworth , add a bit of Brucie (and some big beats) and you have the full Cut & Thrust version of Play Your Cards Right.
Bruce Forsyth - King of the catchphrase - hosted Play Your Cards Right on British TV, originally from 1980 to 1987 on ITV. Produced by LWT (London Weekend Television), Bruce made it an instant hit as the studio audience got involved by shouting "higher" or "lower" at the turn of each card.
The show would return (with Bruce) in the 90s and 2000s, but the theme music was never as good as the 80s version by Alyn Ainsworth. In this remix, I've included many of Bruce's catchphrases from the show which are still part of British culture today. The theme tune extends beyond the part that I have included but I was unable to use it due to audience applause which runs over the top (it's such a shame that TV game shows do this!)
Anyway, I hope it brings back some fond memories and, remember, it could still be a big night if you play your cards right!

This is like a tune they would use on TV to show the best of Brucie! Well done.
The epic analogue synth work on the original 1980 theme was far superior to the 1994 dumbed down remix especially with the sustained chord intro segue into the main theme. I think it was produced by Laurie Holloway (both versions) who also played the keys.
That part of the theme tune used to amaze me as a kid, how unusual, how did anyone think of it, let alone how did they make it!!
You are correct, but it wasn't a remix. It was a complete new session with a much stripped back lineup.
@@cliffhughesmedia4323 Yeah I know . I was dumbing myself down to keep things simple. I was working with LWT at the time and remember the 'new' theme getting released relatively quickly on an ITV themes CD. They lost all the 1970s analog synths and it was horribly produced mainly which gave it a very early 90s 'thin' production sound, compared to the compression and wonderful over production of the original with masses of Lexicon reverb. He did the same to another classic theme Blind Date, which had the same under production treatment , ruining another classic Holloway theme.
Also sadly a few of the original musicians had also died by 1994 who played on the original session as well as other LWT Productions (Dempsey and Makepeace / The Professionals etc) and Granada had come in and started using way more external resources so the old boys music club died really :(
@@culttelevision I did the session, it was at Snake Ranch Studios near Lots Road. Memorable mainly because the house engineer pointed out you could hear the tube running underneath so we timed the recordings appropriately.
@@cliffhughesmedia4323 wonderful. Sad that so many faces have been lost to time. I guess fashions change in music but I'm a big fan of the late 70s / 80s production style where I guess a lot of folks would say was 'over produced' but I love it. Snake Ranch? They did Terrahawks theme there in '83. Wasn't it Steve Rance's studio?

Brilliant work. Such a shame LWT, YTV and Central threw out the master tapes - some were 'acquired' out of skips and cupboards but are held on to by collectors who can't share them for obvious reasons. Bullseye, 3-2-1, Blockbusters, Family Fortunes to name but a few
They let me walk out of the door in 1994 with all the negatives to The Professionals . It took me 3 months to give them back once i'd high res scanned them all . Same with Thames TV . I got all the original scans of The Sweeney titles (without text) and Minder etc. No security in those days.

Can you do remixes of the red dwarf theme, boon, minder, neighbours & the eastenders theme (the version that Anita Dobson sang) oh and Letitia dean’s something out of nothing please? Your remixes are awesome!!!!! They bring back so many happy memories for me as a kid of the 80’s and teenager of the 90’s!!!!!
