Those residents could recognise an airplane model by its engine sound 😅
They are an experienced Avgeeks 🤣
I used to live just off Bath Road at the North Eastern side of the airport, couldn't hear most of the noise but my god you knew when a 777 was taking off from 27R. Loved it!
And TIME

Used to be able to tell between the aircraft models too with 747-200 having different engines to the -400. We also get them at 05:00 in the morning too if there is a tail wind over the Atlantic. Jet wash is also a problem, my mum had 30 roof tiles ripped off by one jet.

Don't live near and airport.
Reminds me of Steven Wright's stand-up monologue. He said he lived so close to the airport, he got up from watching TV to go get a snack and a stewardess told him to go back to his seat... 😅

LMFAO
thats a good one
I used to work in Hounslow which is right on the final approach to Heathrow and my office window had a perfect view of the aircraft flying over. The highlight of my day was seeing Concorde's daily flight from JFK and I never got tired of seeing it. 🙂
Nice video. :)
Great memories ! I remember that Concorde most of times was always on time

I guess if you rent an apartment next to an airport, you must really enjoy the jets taking-off, and landing. ❤
I was born under an airport flight pattern 😂
Not to mention the cheap land prices or rent.
Or much more likely, you can't afford to live elsewhere.
@@dex1lsp Might be a unique case where a top floor apartment costs less than a basement unit.
@@AnoraJohnson I also think the airport should give these people free pro-grade earmuffs (the kind used by ground crew). I'm sure that would NEVER happen though.
I used to live near an airport when I was 3 years old. I can still clearly remember how soothing it felt to hear the airplanes overhead. Honestly I would fall asleep to the airplane’s engine.
My mom in the other had not so much. As soon as she had the chance we moved. Saddest moment of my childhood 😅
You probably found it comforting bc you grew up with it. It’s the same for me but with trains. When I was really little we lived next to a railroad track, and trains passed by it all the time. As we moved to other places, we sometimes still had those tracks nearby. Even now I live not to far from one, so to say the least, I’m pretty sure it’s only comforting because I grew up with it.

I have my PPL. I wouldn't live that close to a runway threshold if you paid me.
Trust me living on a flight path gets tedious after a while!
Im with you Ekekwe.
Your enthusiasm wouldn't last a month, trust me...
Keep an eye on Myrtle Avenue home sales then, I am sure you can get a good deal :)
I live under the flightpath of the jets travelling from the UK to the American West Coast. They go over at 44,000 feet though. It is hard to think of them as the same machines shown here, but of course they are. They are a benign presence, and when you look up at the stars on a wintry night and see the navigation lights of a jet it is reassuring somehow. I never knew where the planes were going before the era of plane tracker apps.
Funny you'd mention plane tracker apps, i downloaded one just as a hobby to know more about the flight paths of the planes that fly near me.. it is oddly relaxing.
Hasn't changed at all. I lived at 17 Clare Road Hounslow 10 minutes from Heathrow Airport as a small child in the 60s and the landing path was directly over our roof. Usually you could see 3 planes at a time approaching on the horizon but at certain times you could spot 4 planes. We didn't take any notice of the noise as children, we used to read the numbers under the wings fuselage as they went over. Often we'd take the A1 bus from Hounslow West to the Airport (HOUNSLOW WEST WAS THE END OF THE LINE BACK THEN) We'd go plane spotting and listening to pilots talking on other people's devices and then we'd nip across the road to the AMBASSADOR BOWLING LANES and amusement arcade then back home 😂 I went back in the 80s and had forgotten just how loud those jets were !!
You probably have the best night time aviation videos on YT. The quality never stops to amaze me. 👏👏
I like the quality so much too. I wonder what kind of camera has been used here ? 🧐
Thank you so much for your feedback 🙂 I'm trying to do my best !
good thing about Heathrow is due to all the noise they close at night! this was either shot very early am or before shut down.

I stayed in a friends house, opposite Heathrow airport, runway, and the planes moving about was magic, especially after it had gone dark, and people and machinery moving about with lights blazing away. You know when planes came over it was as though you could reach up and touch them. Me and the wife had no problems sleeping, and I was told that people were deaf to the planes. It is a marvellous sight to see the working, at night, of the airport

It really is.
Oooh I’m so jealous.. wish I lived right under their flight path as I’d also be out there all the time capturing these amazing planes coming in to land.
Watched them, and amazing experience that all must try and get
The old airport in Hong Kong (Kai Tak) was always fun. To land, aircraft had to do a sharp turn and fly between sky scrapers, you could see families in their apartment eating dinner or watching tv as you flew past.
wasn't this debunked
@@manlikeryan hi Ryan, I can assure you, I flew into Hong Kong Kai Tak, it was terrifying.
The old checkerboard approach into Runway 13 at Kat Tak was quite spectacular however in an airliner travelling between 120 and 140 kts roughtly, the chances of being able to see in anyones window for longer than a fraction of a second let alone be able to identify what they were doing is very very slim.
You can also see in any Kai Tak video taken from around the checkerboard that aircraft don't fly between buildings just very low over them, hence why you see spectacular shots of them over Kowloon.
@@VRTrucker I landed there once and have to agree there were few, if any, windows to look in. BUT, a starboard side seat gave a great view of Kowloon after the checkerboard. And, whilst the experience wasn't truly awesome, it has provided after-dinner chat for many years since!
I heard pilots used to call it The Kai Tak heart attack because it was quite complicated to land there.
That was beautiful to watch. 👍🌌
I means its like living in NYC and having the sounds of the city all day long or various cities living near trains.
My house is near a train track and is only blocks away from the house I grew up in. These sounds of the city type things you kinda just get used to when you've been there a long time.
Looking at those flying machines, really makes me feel proud of mankind. How empowered and futuristic. Beautiful twilight video with those landing lights of the planes. Favourites.
Many thanks for your comment ! Glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah yeah, check the floating garbage island in the middle of the ocean, then be proud for the same mankind. I am ashamed of it, and every human being should too.
NO Heathrow Airport. …@@theburbles4260
We actually have flying cars but no one noticed yet :-)
Mankind destroying it planet
I had the chance to stay at a house very close to the Frankfurt airport and it actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, the planes just become white noise at some point. And they would stop at around 10 or 11pm and wouldn't fly until the next morning at 5 or 6. You could literally tell the time by the planes though lol
I have lived in Frankfurt in several apartments and there is literally no housing near the airport, there is a big forest between the airport and the nearest towns/neighborhoods , which are Schwanheim and Niederrad. I lived in Schwanheim and I couldn’t hear planes at all.
Frankfurt is an amazing example on how to build an airport and having residents be relatively happy about it.
Yeah honestly the issue with airplane noise is somewhat exaggerated. The noise of these engines is not harsh to ear and you quickly begin to filter it out, noise from cars on roads, railways or construction sites are way worse. If I had to choose between living by an airfield vs living by busy road I would choose airfield 100%. I don't know what is the explanation for this, there must be something more to sound issue than just decibels. I hate excess noise and all in all I think noise pollution is very underestimated issue, but somehow airplanes really don't bother me at all
I remember back when the Airbase was still active in Frankfurt. The first planes to arrive very early in the morning were the US Military's C5-Galaxy Freighters...these had a very distinctive loud organlike sound. As you said: You could literally tell the time, roll around and get some more sleep because the civilan airliners coming in after were much quieter. Nowadays even more so, an A380 is very quiet in comparison.
@@czwarty7878I have lived next to both an airport and a freeway. Can confirm that the freeway is worse. The sound is constant and it varies (trucks, motorcycles). It’s hard to block out a sound if it never stops and constantly changes.
Thank goodness for Germany’s mandated “quiet hours” (10/11pm-5/6am). Military aircraft have to get waivers granted by the German government to operate engines during those hours, and they are not easily approved.
This is the best dim light camera resolution I’ve ever seen
How awesome it would be to listen to this when you have a level 10 migraine like I get. I would go insane after the first couple of nights I think
What a place to live! Although landings don’t go on too deep into the night at Heathrow, so I guess this is evening in the winter, given the trees. Gatwick sees them deep into the night as the holiday flights come home
This footage was filmed late January Paul. Well spotted about the tree !
How late do the landings usually go at Heathrow?
@@KP-wt8qr Last flight at 11pm 🙂👍
@@topfelya so I imagine it’s like Sydney Airport where there’s a curfew between 11-5?
@@KP-wt8qrFirst landings in the morning are also restricted at Heathrow. Flew in from Japan a few weeks ago (14hrs!) and the pilot said that we were 'too early' so did a fly-around. to ensure our wheels didn’t touch the ground before the 6am requirement. I checked my phone and it said 05:59 - don’t suppose anyone will get too bent out of shape over a few seconds! 😀

I live right next to one of the busiest airports in the US. When Covid hit hard and planes were not flying, my family had this weird eerie feeling that we couldnt shake off... we felt off, had trouble sleeping, etc.... We were just too used to hearing planes all the time.
I live near a flight path and can tell by its sound which type of plane it is even while i'm ondoors. I love hearing them *_and_* seeing them too of course!
I have seen you from the flight..
My dad lived a few mins away from LAX, i remember falling asleep to the sounds of planes passing overhead as it was very peaceful. Plus he had a messed up radio that somehow would pick up the communication between the airport and planes, i would listen in sometimes

I live a little further up the flight path in Isleworth, and personally, I love it.. also the big jets tend to all be in by 11, definitely before midnight, so I have no trouble sleeping at all!

We had exactly the same situation at Brussels airport. Action groups all over until the germans took over. They calculate a strict minimum of noise and nuissance in flying over by changing approaches and start up ever flight. Thank you Lufthansa!
It’s funny, people move close to a source of noise and then complain about it despite the source of noise being there before they moved there.

I used to live in Heston Right under the flight path as they took off or landed. Not only did I get used to it, but this video makes me feel nostalgic. So many years ago.
I lived as far from Manchester airports 23R approach path. You become so used to it you don't hear them at all. I loved the sound of the VC-10 on take off. It was like the second coming it was so loud. The windows would vibrate and buzz when it hit a certain pitch. This was before double glazing became common.
This is just epic . If I lived on that street these pieces of craft will be part of my furniture. There are people out there that don't know how lucky they are! Us minions look up at the sky at 35k feet trying to figure out if it's a bird or plane .
I live on the flight path near a busy international airport, planes are about 2000 feet above my house. I can watch the planes turn and line up with runway. The airport usually alternates runways so they are not constantly flying overhead. I love it however I am sure many people would not.

Living near an airport I can appreciate this . When the Concord was in operation it always was a special show . I remember the SST and Concord meeting and posed nose to nose . Amazing
What do you mean? SST and Concord?
@@AMSFlyer British Airways had concords in their fleet, they called it SST. In 1976 a British SST landed along with a French Concord at Dulles International airport. It was two of the same plane but in different livery. One had the British Airways, and one had the French logo. Then they posed them nose to nose. It was a huge deal. The British took it out of service shortly after. Pollution along with the noise and poor fuel economy were deciding factors.

Anyone who lived there for more than 30 years could probably attest to the fact that planes nowadays are so much more quieter than before. I mean, I once stood like right next to a runway at a major international airport (I used to work for an airline), and watched an A380 take off. Even at take off power, the engines are not that loud that it ends up being painful to my ears!
