    That ain't ice, it's just very hard packed snow. Ice looks blue and your skis behave the same way as on a wide box in the park.
    But, yeah it's a good explanation for hard ice-like slopes.

      No it’s ice

    • @RaVen-ic8mn
      @RaVen-ic8mn Рік тому

      Since when is every ice blue? Obviously you have zero idea about crystal structures of ice.
      U know, ice is frozen water. Yeah. And on a slope, to legally count as ice,you need to reach a certain measure of grain-size and form to count as ice,which here, I do not even need a measure it is so obvious.
      Try next time 💩🤳

    • @RaVen-ic8mn
      @RaVen-ic8mn Рік тому +1

      First of all, the best way to deal with ice, is to sharpen your ski edges in a proper angle, depending on the form of your skis.
      If your edges are bad, you need stronger legs and reaction :-P

  • @RaVen-ic8mn
    @RaVen-ic8mn Рік тому +3

    In Austria they teach them slope safety too. F.e. not use the entire slope for yourself to make a turn :-P or stay on a practice slope until you feel safe enough.

  • @StoccTube
    @StoccTube Рік тому +1

    Grow up slalom racing on dendex and never worry about ice… it’s only powder that challenges me as they never made dry slopes deep enough! Great lesson… my kids are new skiers, I’ve got them following this channel now.

    • @RaVen-ic8mn
      @RaVen-ic8mn Рік тому

      Teach your kids to NOT use an entire slope to make a turn, unless it's a tight part. Skiing is still like traffic. Slow guys to the right. Make space for fasterpeople. Or you put yourself and others in danger as well as someone speeding through the middle (and hasn't scouted enough in advance).

  • @brucejeanduc841

    What if it is steep and you don't have soft snow on the side.

    • @tainicon4639
      @tainicon4639 Рік тому +1

      Roll the ski on edge and stomp on it like your are trying to break the ski in half. (That’s actually how you should skiing anyways haha)
      If you do that you’ll cut through pretty much any surface. The surface in this video is actually a really good surface you can carve very easily on hard snow like that.

    • @RaVen-ic8mn
      @RaVen-ic8mn Рік тому

      1... do NOT, and i repeat, do NOT use an entire slope to turn just because you feel safer when there is softer snow. In all my years as a ski patrol have i never, ever, even once heard about this.
      Simply for the reason, it's careless about your and other people's safety if you did.
      Do not go off practice slope if you don't feel like staying on one side of a slope 👍🏻
      Therefore, every proper ski instructor will never, ever, at any time, tell his guests to use an entire slope to make a turn easier.... 🤦🏻 Sry it's not meant bad, but this is bs...

    • @tainicon4639
      @tainicon4639 Рік тому +1

      @@RaVen-ic8mn I vehemently disagree. as a race coach and Ski instructor I can assure you that the modern skiing technique, benefits very highly from using turn shape to control speed. Usage of the full hill does not put you in any danger unless other people are skiing recklessly, and not paying attention to those that are in front of them. In the United States “the skiers responsibility code” clearly states that the uphill skiers need to yield to the downhill skiers.
      This isn’t to say that you should blindly trust. The other people will follow the rules. But for bidding a perfectly valid and very safe technique for controlling speed and navigating the hill due to the potential for others, reckless behavior seems to be backwards to me.

    What do I do if I don’t have any soft snow on the sides

    • @jerrymcsendee
      @jerrymcsendee 10 місяців тому

      If the ice is too slick to negotiate by edging, side slip down until you find snow you're comfortable with. Avoid shadows. Sometimes you only need the ice shavings of others to edge.
      But this isn't ice, and this guy is a crappy instructor giving the wrong advice.

  • @jerrymcsendee
    @jerrymcsendee 10 місяців тому +1

    WT actual F???
    1. Like all the east coasters here, that's not ice.
    2. If you're on real ice, FFS, do NOT put all your weight on your DH ski. Do that (if you must) on soft cord where there's no chance of loosing that edge. At most, you should be 60% on your DH ski. You loose that edge, you have another to keep you up.
    You are a poor instructor.

  • @emjaynie2
    @emjaynie2 Рік тому

    saying “pressure” isn’t enough bc ppl have all sorts of funny ideas of how to do that. Standing right ON the outside ski with less weight on the uphill/inside ski might describe it more fully.
