It's amazing how bad the condition was in Karachi 8 years ago, and how much it has improved in the last few years. The gangs are almost dead, the target killing is almost non-existent. As someone who has lived and worked in Karachi, it was a relief to be able to walk outside without any fear. Karachi really has changed greatly in the last few years. It will probably never reach its glory of the 60s and 70s again but the beautiful city of Karachi, the city of lights is recovering.

My friend was visiting Karachi as a child, and was in the house of family who lived there with her dad, and they heard what she thought was fireworks, and so she asked her dad if they could go outside and look at them, and he was like “hahah, nooo, not right now.” Years later she realized that they where actually gun shots

This documentary is from 2012. Although street crime like theft and mugging is still a problem, things are far better now in Karachi than in 2012.

Thank you for uploading this. I lived in Karachi for five years from 1986 to about 1991. Yes even then there was a lot of violence but equal to that there was little beautiful gems spread all over if you just knew where to look. I treasure the good and beautiful memories. Maybe it felt extra intense and beautiful due to the danger? :)

Should do a 10 year anniversary video on Karachi. Supposedly the situation's improved a lot in the last couple of years (went from 6th to 70th most dangerous city and vloggers seem to not be in danger at least). I'm sure Vice would find some of the dodgy areas though.

Update on Karachi now (2020-2021):
I was a kid at those time and used to listen from my elders that "halat kharab hai shehr ke " ( city's condition is not good)
But seeing now, Karachi is recovering . Target killing, cross firing, snatching has reduced to greater degree . It's a very speedy transition but thank God being a girl I can now go around the city without a person for my protection ☺️

Lyari is full of Tigers. The most underrated area of Pakistan. My mamo was the MAN of Lyari and he wasn't a gangsta. Been to Lyari once in early 90s. Can't wait to go visit Lyari next time I visit Karachi.
