- After buying a tent, tent camping families should buy a second camp shelter for cooking, eating, and keeping warm and dry in rainy/windy weather. This video presents several good shelter options and briefly summarizes important features.

We use a 12'X12" Eureka Screen Tent and put it over the picnic table at the Campgrounds. I returned my REI camping table because I never brought it out once we got the screen tent. A 10X10 screen tent would not fit very well over the 8' long picnic tables at the State Parks we camped at. Although it's interesting to see how other campers set up their camp kitchens. Great Video.
I love the nesting poles in this video, good call my friend, that was a great buy and since you take such good care of your equipment, it is till gong strong. You have got your money out of them and it looks well worth the money.
Another excellent video my friend. Thank you so much for sharing and I Hope you have a blessed week.

James Hildebrand Is it a Coleman? where have you found the most bugs? I remember North Dakota as having the most mosquitoes I’ve ever seen. Thanks for the comment.
@@moderntentcamping yes I have a coleman instant screen house 10x10 perfect for my needs,I can BBQ or cook in it with no problems.i live in bc Canada ,so it's mostly black flies or mosquitos around camp sites, but it is the darn wasps that always come around when IAM barbecuing that made me buy one, not a problem now. Almost camping season here . Waiting for next video ,cheers from canada

Thanks James. Good to hear from you again.
Excellent video Frazier Douglass! A couple years ago I purchased a large tarp. It is white on one side and brown on the other. I usually use it with a ridge line between a couple of trees, and then anchor the bottom as needed. It's large enough to have tables and chairs set up under it with room to spare. I only use it if I need a base camp for more then a couple days, otherwise the set-up and break down time must be considered. The only down side is the potential for problems in high winds or storms. Sometimes the weather people are less then accurate with their forecast, as I think you will agree. Anyway, thanks for your video, which, like always, is filled with useful information.
mrbr549 Good to hear from you again mrbr 549. We used a large tarp for a long time but as we got older, we wanted more comfort. Hope all is well with you. We’ll be camping again soon.
Nice... This piece of camping equipment is the thing that I have an issue with finding the right one... Great video. Thanks for sharing, take care Frazier D.
RedWhite&Blue 78 Thanks Jason. Hope you are doing well.
Good video as always. I was wondering about those tarp shelter clips. Your tarp shelter worked great for us on our NY State-Montreal-Vermont trip last summer. Looking to put to use again for Elkmont Campground GSNP in August.
Jon Morales Hey Jon, it’s nice to hear from you. You can now find a link to those tarp clips on the checklist page of my website www.moderntentcamping.com. Thanks for the comment. I know you will enjoy the Elkmont campground. It is one of my favorites. Try to take the trolley into Gatlinburg one day.
Trolley? Nice. I can't believe my wife agreed to a primitive campsite, but that is in part that we did so well camping in a lot of rain last year with a REI Kingdom 6 and your tarp shelter. Using those clips would be the finishing touch on our tarp shelter... When I purchased the aluminum telescoping poles, I bought REI's version of the 8' (3) and 6' (1) during their annual sale. They worked well at a fair price. The orange metallic coloring is easier to see in low light conditions. I am thinking about going with a slightly larger 10 x12' tarp since my wife likes the picnic table under it for scrapbooking and crafting in all conditions. If we have a shady campsite with little wind, we may only need to have one sidewall to place our cooking table under. You are right however that most small families would otherwise be most efficient with an 8 x10' setup. That would be my only personal customization to this perfect system. FYI for your other viewers.
