Thinking philosophically, the first impression I had after viewing your comparison between the AVP and any iPad reminded me of that old “Toaster and Refrigerator” debate. That is, what is better for a consumer: a device fully optimized for one specific task or a device able to perform that same task - in addition to other tasks - but perform those tasks not as well as that single optimized device can. Succinctly, the AVP will never - and can never - replace any tablet’s reason for existence. Conversely, unless a tablet acquires the tech ability to project a holographic-color accurate picture or video, any tablet can never achieve what the current AVP can display to its user - regardless of any price difference currently existing between those two devices.

I went into the store and did a demo. I liked the idea of having additional screens to do side things while I worked on my Mac. I went home and got an iPad 10 on Amazon for $349. Very happy with it. I’ll get a Vision Pro whenever they get more accessible.

Fantastic video, Jerry! I'm curious if the future Vision Pro can be connected with a pen. I prefer writing notes over typing, so I'll give the Penoval AX Pro 2 that you recommended in the video a try.

    Great comparison Jerry.
I'm just having an iPad air 5 and wondering if I need an expensive Apple Pencil .
    Thanks for sharing great alternative.
I'll try Penoval AX Pro 2 and the paperlike.

Yes! Thank you for mentioning the lack of USB/accessories/dongles. Apple needs to fix this NOW if they want people to use it as a "Pro" device, or as actual spatial "computing".
And yes, shared experiences, between different Apple device users, are very much lacking. Being able to simply share the view of some or all the apps you're working on, with someone else, is necessary to avoid the isolation effect that could plague Vision Pro's reputation.
This video is the best I've seen so far about this! If Apple got to work on solutions to the few things you mentioned in this video, they could really make a killer product that I think will sell 10x more in Europe when they release it here.

Get some Xreals for your iPad and maybe a beam to anchor the display. It's a lot lighter and you have micro OLED displays. You can have your floating apps and use them with more than just an iPad. Glasses are a lot easier to wear during a movie than a headset. Plus the battery life will be better.

👍👍, I like you did this video because many reviewers have said it’s like having a mac on your face but it’s really an ipad pro on your face that is less useful overall right now, still waiting to see where this tech and ai combined go in next few years

I've always thought of the Vision Pro as an extra fancy 3-D iPad.
It's nice to find someone else who agrees.
I've seen a lot of people show me what the Vision Pro can do that's "really cool," but I haven't yet found anything that looks "really useful."
As you show, the iPad can already do a lot of what the Vision Pro can do, and a few things it can't.
Shared experiences of some kind, if only between Vision Pro users, would be a massive improvement.

Umm VR/AR or Vision Pro hasn't even reached its 3% while Ipad does everything aleeady which is 100%.
There is barely any apps built for Vision Pro. And the way you can use eyes and hand/fingers to manipulate screens around your real world surrounding space already is a huge thing than any device.

I've had my Vision Pro for exactly 2 weeks and I love it, while acknowledging that it is sill a work in progress. But so was my first iPad and my Gen 1 Apple Watch. For me it's a keeper.
The more I use it and the more adept I get with the interface, the more enamored I am of the AVP. Watching 3D videos on the AVP is absolutely awesome! Yes, it's isolating--so I will still have weekly movie nights with friends and forego 3D on those occasions.
I've never done much gaming on my iPad (or my Mac for that matter), preferring to use a PS5 for gaming. So the draw of the AVP for gaming is spatial games. At the moment, there really aren't a whole lot of spatial games for the AVP but it's early days and I expect this will improve over time.
I do, however, agree that the AVP is suboptimal for work uses at the moment.Typing using the built-in keyboard is a pain even for entering URLs or sending quick texts; anything longer requires a BT keyboard.. I'm a pretty good touch typist but still like to glance at my keyboard occasionally while typing and that can be difficult with the AVP strapped to my face.

Not only does the iPad offer a wide variety of apps, but it also has comparable products at a more affordable price. It remains acost-effective and useful option for many people. If I want an even more budget-friendly setup to boost my productivity, I'll explore the stylus and Paperlike that you recommended in the video. Do you have any suggestions for a great keyboard?

For casual, none serious iPad users, I think the AVP will be able to replace the iPad fairly quickly, by version 2 or 3. I think by version 5 or 6, AVP will be able to replace the iPad for even serious users. By then the App ecosystem will be mature and enough hardware revisions should have been made to make it possible.

This strikes me as a tool that will be of more benefit to people with disabilities who need to manipulate things with their eyes. Augmented reality, however, I see as a universally helpful tool.

Comparing an Iphone with enlarged screen device but no phone call sim card to a device that evolved from a pc laptop with the most modern advanced techs built in.
    Seems fair comparision 😅

  • @JonasViatte
    @JonasViatte 3 місяці тому

To me it could replace the iPad if it had a functional USB connection like the iPad (for dongles, data etc, not just for charging).
It could replace the MacBook if it could run Mac apps natively, which it definitely could do with its M2 chip (or if the ecosystem was open to apps outside the App Store, like Macs).
Honestly it could replace them both, but it doesn't, purely because Apple is purposely limiting it.
Under Steve Jobs, Apple was trying to replace all your devices with one perfect device. Now they instead try to avoid overlap to sell you the most possible different devices, that are all good but all lacking something.
In the short term this seems smart financially, but now would be the time to turn this around. The amount of people ready to invest in this expensive device would be much higher if they knew it could effectively replace their other devices.

The best experience for Quest 2 for me is when I keep use it up to 2 years. But it still in 2% potential due to lack of apps and limited UI which Apple Vision Pro does miles better
