- I wanted to make a video explaining mass produced gold chains and how they are most likely plated. If you have had some experience with gold chains or jewelry, you'll know that there's different colors. Even though the karat % is the same. This is because of the top plating applied from the manufacturer. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching.

You’re the boss for doing this, considering that it may create some calamity, you still choose to inform us. Thank you bro 🙌🏼
Thank you for explaining this. I had heard references to plating chains and was very confused so I really appreciate you breaking it down and explaining it in an easy to understand way.
Back to the educational videos. Love it when you put these types of videos out.
This is an issue for people that haven't ever really owned a pure solid gold chain. I get why people start freaking out and its because of misconceptions. But it's basically like buying a new car. When you buy a car it may have been waxed or sealed by the manufacturer. The month after you bought it it'll never look as good as the day you took it home. It's still the same car that you bought but it's just not as sparkly clean as the day you bought it. This is normal for gold chains. When it's been around your neck for a decade the wow factor that it had the first few years just won't be the same. The thing is still gold and always has been nothing has changed just how ultra shiny clean it looks out the gate. People need to chill just focus and make sure it's SOLID PURE 10K,14K,18K 22K 24K.
What does the 2 KK's mean on a shiny gold heavy 18 inch chain. VINTAGE
The purer coating is just a selling point, super faster then black hands and fingers polishing every chain by hand. Their shiney and gorgeous. Sold. Then it wears and it looks even more amazing, love the dull gold worn look. Must be the Irish in me. Just as the fresh wax on a brand new car, they never look as good as in the store or case, to some. But gold is gold and that's why it sells, dull, shiney, scratched, old, new as long as it's real it's for me. Good video Braden
Finally someone with a real explanatnion of why this is done. it was baffling me why any manufacturer would plate 18k over solid 14k. Especially when nowadays that darker looks is considered fake looking. But when you gave the lobster clasp which they outsource as an example as to why, to make the color uniformed on the chain, it makes perfect sense.
I started buying gold back in the 90s when it was a little over $300 an ounce. I love your videos! I think you're right on! I love the Honda Civic analogy. You have me cracking up once again 🤣🤣🤣👊👊👊
Braden back at it educating us ! Amazing video, didn’t know about this
Respect. Just watch the video again because I was real close to email him because I just purchased a 7 mm 14 karat solid gold chain and thought that it had a plated finish but he clearly says that he sells natural color which what I like.
This is why you are my personal jeweler, honest and facts keeps costumers coming back
Thank you for clearing up alot of confusion on this very topic in the Jacoje community..
I love your jewelry collection sir! I watch all your videos lol

Classic Jacoje video. Enjoyed this!
Thanks for the info. Did not know any of this! Great stuff!
Awesome great video thanks for sharing. That chain and pendant on your neck really stands out. It is beautiful.
This is very interesting info. I never knew any solid gold chain could also be gold plated 🤯
Anything metal can be plated
I remember I emailed you about this a couple years ago the subject was “gold plated Gold?” And proceeded to ask if solid gold gets plated aswell 😂 glad you made a video on it🔥
i had no idea. thanks for the video. I don't think it's a big deal one way or the other. i kind of want my chains to match if i wear them together, so i like the more natural look. White Gold is plated with Rhodium, so it makes sense that you would coat yellow gold too.
Love the educational vids. Jacoje fine jewelry 😎
I have spent years spreading the word of Jacoje, THE BEST JEWELRY possible! I recommended Jacoje to my barber and he bought a huge heavy setup. There is absolutely no problem with any of this fine jewelery and I really hope I win, the chain might help give me confidence and make me happy. Joseph K. Beverly Hills, CA

I learned something new from my personal jeweler Braden! I never knew a majority of gold jewelry is plated with higher purity gold to have consistent coloring 🤯
Not always a higher purity, it could be plated with same purity just so everything matches from factory 👍🏼
@@KeelanxHacks Thanks, good to know!

For anyone cleaning their GOLD
just use
Dawn, a toothbrush, and warm water
I used it on 13 thousand dollars in gold and it comes out SHINY and CLEAN
You don’t need a machine or fancy chemicals
Pour on Dawn, a lil water and brush it. Then rinse well and your chain is brand new again👍🏾
I’ve heard a toothbrush scratches the gold a lot.

Just got my 2.5mm rope and mini boss cross setup from FedEx and I absolutely love it!!! 😍😍😍
I heard some jewlers sell plated chains to rip people off because if you scratch test the chain it will read 18k when it's 10 or 14k ... I love that you are honest with explaining why you do this and benefits of having plated gold
With a thin chain, high purity gold leaves it very soft and easy to break.
As long as the supplier is honest and not ripping you off, 9 karat gold correctly plated with 22 karat has a lot of advantages.
Won't work on scratch test
@@wilsjane unfortunately 9k isn’t considered real gold in the US.

thank you for the information and honesty!!
I personally think as long as it’s plated with the same purity of gold that the solid gold chains made out of it is perfectly fine and just adds an extra layer of protection against scratches idk how I feel about a chain that is 14kt gold and plated 22kt gold and someone claiming it to be a true 22kt gold chain I like to stay as natural and true as possible when it comes to my gold chains you guys are the best and the only jeweller that tells it how it is and that’s what make you guys the best at what you do keep making these informative videos (SMASH)

Even if it's dipped in 22k it test & is sold as 14k. If it's dipped in 22k it's to make the chain & pendant the same shade so they match
That’s what they do with Byzantines, you just gotta ask Braden to help you out
my 18k rope bracelet has certainly changed color over the last year, the orangey color of the gold is slowly coming out more. can’t wait for for my rope to change to a deeper gold color as well.
Thanks for your educational videos 👍🏼
Hey Braden, hope all is well!! would love to see a video about pendant & chain weights : how heavy a pendant should be on a chain.. e.g : if i have a 10gram chain, whats the heaviest pendant i can put on it without damaging the chain.. and does it apply to both Karats 14 and 18.. thanks
Big UPS to my boy Braden for Keeping it real and informing everybody on something the majority of us didn't know. I look forward to getting my 5 mm yacht link one day keep up the great work boss.
Keeping it real would be advertising it on his website as gold plated or plated finish.
@@kingmega3276....don't be that guy boss, he didn't have to make the video but he did. Have a blessed one bro
It’s just an open discussion. I normally don’t comment on videos but this one rubbed me the wrong way. It’s the same as if you bought a brand new iPhone then found out that it was refurbished to perform and look a certain way. Maybe not the best analogy but to be an honest retailer you must say these things from the beginning. None of this is advertised on his website. $4,500 dollars later is when I find out
@@kingmega3276 It's an industry standard. Even the finest handmade pieces worth $45,000+ have a plated finish. If he was only selling pieces where the plating matches the original chain he wouldn't even mention it, because it's common knowledge. but I believe he currently sells 1 or 2 chains with higher karat plating which he has been 100% transparent about (Heavy link if I remember correctly). It also isn't advertised on his website that his chains are machine made, but again common knowledge.
If you're dead set on a chain without a plated finish, you're best bet is with a company that makes them to order and request that they don't plate it.
@@kingmega3276 I would agree boss entirely. In the end your getting what you paid for 14k is going to be 14k, and 18k is 18k , if they add plated gold on top I assume we all know wouldn't last. But I hear you it's a lot of hard earned money at stake💯
Thank you that was super informative
Jacoje is my choice for chains. My flat curb always gets attention reflects from a block away. Glad I bought when they where cheaper.
Thanks for learning us bro
I was suspecting this, was at the store and saw the 10k looked exactly the same as the 14k and both of them looked very “gold” and I was suspicious, had to have been plated in 18k. (Macy’s, insane Black Friday deal though)
I bought my girl a chain at our local jeweler and noticed vs my jacoje chain it was more yellow and they are both 14k thought it was because mine is dirty but now I know thank you !
You’ll even find 10k that’s darker than that. I have an 18k Franco bracelet and there were some 10k pieces in the mall that were darker, must be 22/24k plating.
Brought my first Jacoje yesterday 🤝. Can’t wait for it to get here. 1.5 mm Franco diamonds cut
Bro your going to love it I from Philadelphia like you , my question to you why didn't you get it from Shyne jewelers or Danny jeweler's ?

I have a 14k gold ring from South Korea that's a dark shade like 22k. In asian countries they like higher karat gold and I think they plated it to look darker. Ring still looks great just looks higher purity than 14k.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention I had no idea that this was an industry-standard or that plating is done on top of gold... look forward to more videos homie... received jacoje curb 8.8 bracelet 8.5in... and it is so dope...
Plating an entire 20 inch plus chain or more just to match the color of a .05 inch clasp is not industry standard. I honestly don’t trust this guy anymore , and it’s my fault b/c I knew better.
@@kingmega3276 lol same this video made him lose credibility to me.
@@David-mu1wz you realize this is what almost every jeweler does? Only way your gonna get it without the extra plating is if you go get it custom made and request not to have it plated. Jacoje is still solid 14kt gold like if you went to the mall theyre gonna have 14kt chains with a 14kt finish no way of getting around it dont matter if you get it from macy- jacoje its gonna be plated unless its custom
@@xxlone_wolfxx4147 no i don't. this is my first time hearing anything like this. you maybe right but i have found nothing that supports the claims of gold plated gold being a thing.

Mark of The Beast, (3) 6MM Tri gold chains and (3) 6MM Tri gold bracelets is my setup 👀
Love the history of knowing a person had to hand make it and alternate Golds too.
#JacojeRopes👍🏾
Where does he say these are made by hand?
@@NewDimensionsvideo In other Videos he explains that they’re handmade
And any gold Jewelry that is more than 1 color gold is hand made
Machines aren’t equipped to do multiple kinds at once, they can only do 1 kind /color of gold at a time as it’s wire is fed into machine
So a person takes all the rings and then hand alternates every so many. Watch a couple UA-cam’s on rope chains and machine made and you’ll see, and realize it’s a painstaking process.

I just figured it was a different percentage of the filler alloys used. Like a higher percentage of copper or silver or something.
This video got me feeling a certain way lol So I guess my jacoje chain and pendant are plated 18k over solid 18k gold to match clasp but Now I wonder what the real colors look like. Didn’t even know they were plated at all. It makes sense I just wish this was advertised more. But I guess it’s an industry standard. This makes me just want crafted 24k jewelry now lol. Still happy with my chain & pendant but damn I want that natural.
Same.. Tho I don't get why anyone would plate a chain that's already real... SUS!
@@dannygreen5477 because if they didn’t it would look spotty in different places. They plate it to give it a nice consistent look trust me if you guys got the natural look youd not be happy people say that until they get a non plated finish and realize you can spot the inconsistencies in the sun light real quick
@@xxlone_wolfxx4147 Actually I would appreciate some plated and some not..just for variety. But I don't have a problem with what he said.
damn you're right. you should just mail it to me
It comes down to money for the manufacturer. Its cheaper for them to plate your 18k chain with 18k plate then to pay a guy to polish it by hand for hours to get that beautiful shine. If you want a natural shine you have to buy handmade and its going to cost you. If you go that route I would only buy 18k too
I put my 18k 37g Cuban bracelet on while watching 🔥
What link an mm is the chain ur wearing in the video wana know so I can buy it if your website ??
I may be wrong here, but doesn't the choice of mixture of other alloy's that are used also effect the end result of gold tone?
That’s what i’ve read as well, for example rose gold has a higher percentage of copper. White gold has more silver, zinc and nickel in the mix.
I just found a 18k cuban link at the park, fairly decent sized. Just wondering if i can figure out if its plated or not.
When will the website be restocked...
Thanks for the info Braden. I was wondering why my 14k Franco doesn’t match my 14k Cuban. It’s important to know what I’m buying and what it will look like. If I buy a beige shirt I don’t want it to come in yellow. This helps to explain it but I would rather have the plate be the same color as the natural karat color.
Exactly what i was saying lol.. I literally bought a rope to pair with a Franco.. but when I got the rope.. it was drastic yellow on rope vs Franco lol.. 😳 both 14k too..
@@dougiefresh009 it’s because not every bath of gold has the same ratios of metals. Sometimes more silver or copper is used and it can make the hue of gold slightly different.
@@will5119 i understand… I know these are solid gold chains.. i don’t mind a small color diffrence but bro.. pairing these 2 chains.. the 14k rope vs the 14k Franco.. makes either the Franco look 10k or the rope fake or either 18k+… it’s crazy the color diffrence…

I love this video . I have a mooncut chain and I noticed it's rich yellow color . I can't match with many of these chains or later them . I either have to get 18 kt but it's all good . I need a new pendent asap tho !
My personal opinion, i wouldn’t layer or add a pendant to a moon cut chain. Since they’re hollow it is easier to break and if you have a nice solid Franco next to it that Franco could definitely pose a risk IMO. Then of course if you have a pendant it’ll add unnecessary stress on the chain & could contribute to a break in the links.
I'll keep the mooncut chain as a standalone. If anything, layer another mooncut chain on you instead.
@@Adam1991713 that’s the move

If you aren’t sure about your chain, you’ll likely find out the hard way once you get your chain buffed. All that flashing/plating will be gone and you’ll chain will look white or pink.
Like he says, the flashing or plating helps hide solder points and it does make the chain more brilliant and consistent after polishing.

I just watched your old video on plated jewelry
When you sell a 22k chain, is it plated in 22k or is it solid 22k?
Personally, I prefer non-plated, even if not as brilliant, but I think it’s fine if it’s stamped with the base-metal. The problem is unscrupulous dealers, even selling gold-fill. Damn near have to go to the jeweler with a spectral analyzer. 😂
