they’re kind of my favourite thing atm
I’ve seen a couple of comments from people who were unhappy with my smiley thumbnail and video title “I got covid”. I can appreciate why that might seem insensitive and so I’ve changed the title. But I want you to know it’s something I did consider and found difficult to gauge. I’m quite happy and smiley in this video so choosing a thumbnail where I look sad or unwell felt more emotionally manipulative. I avoided titles like COVID DELAYED MY AUDIOBOOK (which is true) and went with the most basic description of what I’m talking about in the video which is that, unfortunately, I did get covid. In the video I explain how shit it was and give advice from my experience that could help others prevent the spread. So I feel like I treat the subject matter with the reverence it deserves. I also think it’s important that anyone who might be triggered by the topic know I’m going to be talking about it before clicking on the video. Anyway, point is, I was actively trying to be sensitive and still managed to upset some people but I hope the new title is less bothersome x
I think the new title is better (though I wasn't bothered by the original anyway) but the thumbnail still has the old title in it?
i really don’t understand what there is to be upset about with the previous title?
“Once Upon a Time There Was a Girl Named Hazel” would have been a top notch video title.
Also, the gallery wall remains looking fabulous; the room as a whole had come together brilliantly.
I’m so glad you’re reading the audiobook. The videos of you reading the first chapter were what got me through my first sleepless, anxiety ridden, horrible months of the pandemic.

these videos of hazel just talking and sharing parts of her life are so so comforting, any time i’m feeling particularly anxious i put one on and almost instantly feel a sense of calm.
I really think the official list of symptoms needs to be expanded/updated from cough, fever and loss of taste/smell... I got Covid a few weeks back and I didn't have any of those symptoms. Like your experience, my symptoms were like hayfever at the start, my most major symptoms being horrible congestion and massive sinus pain, I only found out I was positive because I took a lat flow before I was intending on going out! Anyway, massive congrats on the audiobook and US launch!
As someone who has worked in public health and spoken with countless people about their symptoms, you are spot-on. We absolutely should! Dizziness and lack of appetite as well as a slew of other sxs are also prevalent. COVID doesn't always look the same in each person at all. I hope that you're doing really well now and have recovered!

I felt so much empathy-pain for that festival situation. Those kind of FOMO moments are the absolute worst because there's just nothing you can do.
Personally I've found buying second hand from depop the most sustainable way to shop. There's a lot if barely worn it never worn stuff on their as well. Many big brands are greenwashing, using more sustainable materials but the mass production, fast fashion model will never be sustainable. There are small, sustainable brands who make clothes to order but often they're more expensive (which is down to paying workers fairly and having safe working conditions) and don't go above a size 14 so don't fit me.
The room is gorgeous, I love listening to your voice & I’m not surprised others do as well. So sorry about the shitty things, definitely a few bumps in the road. Having an incredibly fabulous time at your Spanish writing retreat & hopefully finding all the inspiration you need will make up for it, along with the excitement of the release of the US edition. 🤍
oh hazel my heart breaks for you about latitude! such a shame after all the disappointments of the past few years. but i'm glad that everything has worked out okay in the end
I was sick (with what I assume was a bad cold) when you got your pos test back and convinced myself that I got covid and got tested, came back negative but still not convinced I was so so sick

Which edition will the audiobook be? The US version or the original?
will it come out again with the new chapters in countries where it is already out ???? i bought it already in australia so wondering whether i should buy it again for the new chapters ??? btw i loved it so much i got into a new relationship the month the book came out and have now read it again post breakup (yeah i had a whole year long relationship start and end during covid it was fucking awful but also wonderful you know ???) and Out Of Love helped me so much i found so much to laugh at and cry at and feel seen throughout the book, all this to say i am more than willing to buy another copy for the extra new chapters, just wondering whether it will be rereleased here or not
I had fever/diarrhoea for the first few days and was convinced it was a bad stomach bug bc my lateral flow tests kept coming out negative, wasn’t until i started mild coughing on the fourth day that I realised I needed to get a PCR test :(
wait you only have to quarantine for 10 days in the uk? in australia people have to quarantine for 14 days
i need to sleep but i’ve fell into a ‘hazel chats for ages’ (which is my favourite thing to watch) hole and have now binged so many videos but i can’t stop. it’s good and bad. mixed feelings

I've got covid literally right now and your experience has been mine exactly! I felt so, so awful at the thought that I'd been into work with it for the days prior without knowing. Sorry it's screwed with your plans -- I had to cancel a gig I was due to play because I was sick and it was horrid. Here's to uninterrupted good times!
They say that bad things come in 3’s sometimes. Covid. Audiobook postponed. Not been able to go to Latitude (Such a good festival as well!) I’m really sorry you’ve been through all that. Life is so challenging sometimes!

Really worrying about the delta variant here in Florida, frustrating to know us fully vaccinated who did our part to distance and stay home all those months basically did it for nothing because most of our state it feels like is anti-vax. Trying to stay positive and enjoy the little things more but I feel like I have cabin fever at the same time.
On a lighter note, stoked to see the progress with your book, at least I’ll have something new to look forward to reading while the U.S probably puts itself in COVID timeout.
Are vaccines not available to everyone in England?
There was a phased roll out of the vaccine based on age group risk. Many younger people haven't had their second vaccine still.
As others have said many younger people have only had one dose. I don't know about Hazel but dodie had her first vaccination when she caught COVID.

how are you not dying everytime you get hurt by tom in Confession 3?
I genuinely believe those lateral flow tests are not worth the plastic they're made out of. I know so many people who were inadvertently walking around (probably spreading COVID) because their test had come back negative before they left the house.
The Guardian were reporting that they were only correct around 50% of the time. False negatives are so dangerous for communities as they give people a false sense of security.
