I just threw together a small coop out of scraps. It actually came out pretty good, but I haven't done a run on it yet. I've been trying to build a bigger one, but being a disabled gal with no help that project is proving to be a major challenge. My motto is: All gaps are for ventilation. I'm pretty sure I do not have a future career in any type of construction, but it works and the chickens don't seem to mind that their coop was built for free with scraps and defective 2x4's. Working with materials that are warped, bent, crooked and in various sizes was a challenge, but this was intended to be a temporary coop to get some chicks outside while I worked on the larger one, so I didn't want to have to buy anything to make it.
I get it! I have an ability to turn anything into crooked, new or used! I myself, typically try and make the most out of used materials. I had actually been waiting for a friend to tear down their wooden fence to use for this build. It just didn’t happen and I was running out of time. Gaps always provide good ventilation while also bringing much needed character. I wish you luck on the build. I did learn that these chickens definitely do not care how it looks. They are happy to poop anywhere. Thanks for the comment and for watching our video!
