  • This patient was initially sent to PT for altered gait. She has what appears to be some spasticity in the leg and has difficulty dorsiflexing the ankle. She has a 10 year history of mild MS. The Hoffman's Sign and Babinski test should make you suspicious of an underlying upper motor neuron lesion.

    Thank you! I am a medical student and videos like these are the best! I have been struggling with the pinching of the middle finger, I can't seem to get it right.

    With the Hoffman's sign it is positIve if the thumb and index finger come together when middle finger is flicked. Babinski is positive when great toe extends and toes splay

      Thanks for your very interesting article, Some of the natural cures for MS are...
      Get a lot of rest
      Exercising, yoga, tai chi, meditation, deep breathing, hypnosis,
      Use green juice, wheatgrass, fruit and veg - organic are best flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil etc.
      Some things to avoid if you have MS are alcohol, chocolate, dairy products, eggs, hydrogenated oils, margarine, milk, red meats, sugar, aspartame.
      (I read these and the reasons they work from Denelle Multi Care site )

    Hi paul I enjoy watching your videos. I tried this on myself because I have some mnd symptoms but nothing happens does this have any significance?

    • @OrthoEvalPal
      @OrthoEvalPal  8 років тому +3

      +Shadow1988 Very difficult to do on yourself. Needs to be administered by another provider. You can have a negative Hoffman's and negative Babinski and still have symptoms. Not everybody gets positive tests who have MS but they are common with MS. Just another tool in the tool box.

    If it moves does that mean there is an issue? Or is it that if it doesn't move an issue may be present.

    So if someone has a positive Hoffman's sighn and a positive Babinski test does that mean they definitely have ms . because if so i wont have my MRI

    Thank you for your demonstration 😊.But it's the wrong way to elicit a babinski sign with the sharp end of your clinical hammer 😊. Anybody can use a large blunt car key or wooden blunt stick. Thank you and kind regards~ 🌼

    • @OrthoEvalPal

      You still need to be concerned with an upper motor neuron lesion.

    • @Joshuaversa

      Does it mean when it only happens in one hand, spinal cord compression?

    • @Joshuaversa
      @Joshuaversa 5 років тому

      @@scarlettrubyroseI spoke with a neurologist apparently if it happens only on one hand it could mean just the area of the brain that was damaged, same with Babinski.

    i dont see anything with thumb, whats going on here?

    • @OrthoEvalPal
      @OrthoEvalPal  8 років тому +1

      it is very subtle but the thumb and index finger are bouncing closer to each other when middle finger is flicked.

    In my opinion, not a conclusive positive Hoffman´s sign.

    • @OrthoEvalPal
      @OrthoEvalPal  5 років тому +2

      Hi Ignacio, Thanks for the comment. What I have found with the Hoffman's is that the more you do it in a short period of time the less it seems to react. These videos are usually done after the patient has been evaluated for 1/2 to 1 hour.
      Best,
      Paul

      العربي مو متعود ع الاتكيت 😑
      لازم تراعي شعور البيشنت وما تستخدم كلمات تجرحه. عجوز للمرأة كلمة جارحة.
      في واحد في اكزامنيشن كارديو رسبوه عشان استخدم كلمة deformed chest قدام البيشنت!
      حتى في الهيستوري لو جاك واحد يتعاطى كحول او مخدرات ما تقول في الsummary انه عنده bad habits، تقول special habits
      اتعلموا الاتكيت وما تفضحونا 😂
