I bought this Black+Decker vacuum cleaner but it only sucks very weakly. I am very dissatisfied. Once a piece gets a little heavier, it doesn't absorb it. What can you do there?
Excellent job and possibly the best comparison review I've seen while looking for a good hand vacuum. Actually putting them to work in a side by side comparison is great.
Excellent review! I LOVE the fact that you added all 3, *with links, in the description, & that you ALSO took the time to note the pros & cons "at a glance" *& the time stamps!!, in the description as well!! Could not ask for a more thorough review! 👍👊 Thanks so much!
Finally an unbiased non sponsored review. The black and decker (the middle one) is praised by critics everywhere to be best vaccume but most of these people are sponsored and payed to say something good about it. So I appreciate this consumer based review that is more to the point of showing the pro/cons with a more accurate honest analysis. Thank you.

You have no idea how helpful your reviews have been for me! Right now I’m kinda short on money cuz I moved and had to buy a lot of stuff and my Eureka vacuum cleaner broke, I was looking for a replacement specially for dust that I generate installing shelves. I was worried I was being cheap picking up the basic dustbuster. Turns out it is the smart buy (for me).
I was just about to close this video since I just wanted a review for the little one, but I am soooooo glad I watched this. Super amazing video! Thank you a lot!
I would go for the pivot one. As someone with allergic rhinitis and asthma, flying dust particles are definitely not my friends. I suppose it really depends on what you’re using the vacuum for. The cheaper variant is fine for large particles like pet food, the middle one for finer particles, and the pivot one for large and fine particles.
I loved your no nonsense review! Well done!. I actually own the B&D Pivot and have had it for just over 2 years and now it's starting to experience the battery power loss intemitenly. I have enjoyed the versatility of this vacuum but I'm struggling to buy it again due to the battery issue and probably will try a shark handheld next time.
first of all, you are a wonderful teacher! plain speaking & thorough! secondly, thank you. i was between the the basic & the advanced. reviews can make you crazy when 10 say its great & 10 say not so much. your demos answered all my questions. i subscribed!
Great review...very thorough and easy to understand. I was thinking of the middle one before the review, but now....not so much. Great job, you have a new subscriber.
This is BY FAR the best compare and review video! Very helpful information/demonstration with practical features and user difficulties highlighted. Great work!
2024 here. Awesome Video. Thank You. I just ordered the Pivot Vac. Right now it’s just $71.79 on Amazon. Can’t wait to use it. Thanks again for the review and test 👍👍
The brushes at the front are for hard surfaces and loosening dust off fabrics. She should have noticed that when moving forward, the bristles would flick the sand forward making vacuuming ineffective. Hand helds are more effective when used in a backwards motion, particularly on carpets and closer to upright to allow larger objects get sucked in. These are all my experiences and I own the middle one. Love it except for the filter.
Oh wow. This answered questions I had and made me change which one I'm going to get! Since I'm going to be using it to literally dust things around the house and I'm hyper-allergic to dust, the filtration of the more expensive one will be key for me! THANK YOU for noting that aspect so clearly!!!
Info on B&D 20V: it takes 3 and half hours to fully charge and run for 10 minutes if a full charge. the good thing is that it doesn't loose power gradually, it keeps running on full suction power then suddenly stops working. For me that is a good thing!
I have been investigating hand held vacumn for a month. Today I saw an ad on our local TV from Lowe's about a LG, but didn't catch the whole ad. I was at my car dealership and knew that Lowes was a block away. After going and seeing the advertised vacumn $699, I happened to see the $29.99 dust buster and decided to buy it, I can always return if it doesn't do the job I am buying it for. I only plan on using it for my daily clean up on my doves bird cage, his feathers and my blue crown parrot he drops a few feathers and a few seeds. I haven't used it yet so we'll see. I like your channel, you are very thorough and I appreciate that about your channel. I will most likely be attentive to the potential of debris coming back out from nozzle.
Extremely helpful. The problem I have is the barrage of choices that are out there. Manufacturers tend to highlight thier "bells & whistles" (some have cool videos), but then you get it home and there may be one factor that becomes a deal breaker. The presenter was clear and concise. I look forward to more presentations of this caliber. 👍
Great review!! You covered pretty much everything a person needs to know. There is point point you might consider adding is if the battery is replaceable.
I've had that same little Black & Decker for about 10 years and it's still going strong. They get a lot of crap for making inexpensive products but I have some Black & Decker 20v cordless drills and saws that are 15 years old and still work perfectly. You don't need to spend 3 times as much money on brands like DeWalt for tools or Dyson for vacuums to get reliable products.
Thanks for this. I’m looking to get one. I really like this review. You really showed the utility of these vacs. Even the sound test, hearing it does more for me than watching someone put a sound meter on it. If you test the 20V B&D with the hose that would be cool.
I think you did a good job with this video. I like that you did good closeups of the machines in action. I like that you did troubleshooting- consumer devices like this can be finicky and the owner may have to do a little troubleshooting themselves, problems can happen with any product. It is good that you fixed the problem and did a retest. Regarding batteries I find that results can vary with consumer devices like this- some batteries will last a long time and a similar battery in another one of the same product might not last very long. I stumbled across this video because I was looking at handheld vacuums, now I'll have to review your past videos to see if any others are of interest to me.
Great detailed review. I just want to add my 2 cents regarding the mid range B&D 16v that I bought a few years ago (CHV1410L). This dustbuster does not have a replaceable battery pack (not sure if any small hand held vacs do). Per the B&D support pages, "the typical estimated life of a Lithium-Ion battery is about two to three years." Therefore unless you have electrical/soldering skills, you are purchasing a three year vac that will then go to landfill. Since the batteries in mine have lost the ability to hold charge, I'm now researching better options. *Edit* Seems like the B&D BCHV001C1, although a bit more expensive, has a replaceable battery pack.
For around 120 USD (38,000 HUF) it was out of reach...BUT: just ordered the Pivot PV1820 for around 60 bucks on Black Friday today 😉. Pivot Auto has been in use in my new car for over 1 year, still working flawless, therefore I had no 2nd thought after seeing BF offer for around 60 USD for the houshold battery version. Pivot Auto has only around 15 airwatts, but it is still decent. I can just imagine what 35 airwatts will do.
Very well done review. I actually bought the pivot. $79 on Amazon. I always want more power and I don’t want dust blown out the back as I use it indoors and I don’t want dust blowing out the back all over the furniture etc. Yes I paid more for the pivot but for something I use so frequently I don’t want the hassles of the cheap one just to save $40. You get what you pay for. Just a note: all of these cordless vacuums, even the bigger ones, have a problem with the battery not lasting more than a few years at best. All of them. If you can find a battery powered hand vacuum $100 or less that has a battery that still performs like new with regular use after more than a few years, I want to know what it is. And if they made removable batteries like some of my power tools, those batteries would cost about the same as buying a whole new vacuum at this price point. It’s a trade off with these hand held units. They all fade after a while but you trade that for the convenience of no cord. You could get something like the dewalt cordless vacuum that uses a 20v interchangeable battery pack, but you are paying $150 for the vacuum (with no battery) and then $70 for the battery. So you are into it for $220. Again you get what you pay for.
What a fantastic video. In the market for a Pivot right now and this video made it pretty clear...Hair & dust piles from my cat is what I'm after...the Pivot may be overkill but i like how compact it is...my apt is small enough so space saving is huge with me where i can just tuck it away :)
It is not the same one. I have the old pivot like you and lasted for many years but just died so I have been looking but there is no replacement. The closet one has short battery life with many complaints.
Thanks a lot for such a thorough review/comparison! Just one question: the one that you own, the pivot model, does it still have some power today, is it usable?
I appreciate the side by side comparison. I'm looking for a handheld to use in my car and would like to see how the crevice attachment works between the console and seats. I can't seem to find a video that shows that with the Black and Decker's. It looks like the Advanced Clean might have the longest reach. Please consider adding that to your great review. Thank you.
Damn that black+decker vacuum! I was bullied in Dubai Tower floor 18 partition where the walls are made of paper thin plywood. The boys of the partition kept knocking on my door and accused me of noise pollution because of the “drilling noises”, I fought back and said that it wasn’t me and it’s the one next door. When we asked the girl next door, she said that she doesn’t own any drill. I eventually changed flat and bought this black and decker vacuum and suddenly it dawned on me that those pesky “drilling noises” was someone using this vacuum all along.
FILTER LONGEVITY: The real problem with small handhelds is the filters clog quickly. Cyclonics are much better but they are not perfect. FLOUR TEST: a great test would be to see how quickly flour clogs the filters. (This test would be like cleaning up drywall dust after sanding.) MAX: I suspect the battery is not replaceable which means it's a very expensive throwaway unit. I probably has the greatest suction power and a cyclonic filter so it's about the best you can do. The straight through "brute force" filters clog instantly when dealing with "drywall dust." OPINIONS: MAX: Not worth it if the battery is non replaceable and the unit is a throw away. MID: Probably best bang for buck when dealing with "dust." LOW: Good value but will be very frustrating to use when dealing with "dust."
I bought the B&D HHVK415B. I haven't had it long enough to know how well it will work on everything, or how long the battery will last, but for around $10 I got a 3 year warranty from a company that was easy to work with when I had a prior claim. Altogether, I got vac and warranty for around $90.
Thank you this review was very helpful. I am definitely getting the cheaper model, I'll make my own adjustment to prevent the dust from blowing out the back. I would appreciate if you test the Black & Decker wet/ dry hand vacuum.
Ordered the cheapest one... Love the wall mount...... replacing older wall mounted Red Dirt Devil. Gonna miss that Dirt Devil, been with me many years.
Great review! I think you helped regarding my buy. I was considering the middle one, but base on your review, it is off the table. I agree the low end one is the best buy. However, I'm going for the hi-end one because of 30 air watts. Thx so much! :-)
All reviews should be like this one, I love it. The goal of a review is to help you make a decision and this one did just that... Thank you so much
