I bought this Black+Decker vacuum cleaner but it only sucks very weakly. I am very dissatisfied. Once a piece gets a little heavier, it doesn't absorb it. What can you do there?
Excellent job and possibly the best comparison review I've seen while looking for a good hand vacuum. Actually putting them to work in a side by side comparison is great.
Here's why reviews on these don't matter. You can't swap batteries easily. Otherwise, you are buying a future landfill item that will work ok until they don't. I have the mid-level option in my classroom; batteries died soon after warrantee and then you're soaked or messing with soldering battery replacement knockoffs after cracking open the case. At home we have a similar hand held made by a tool manufacturer with a standard replaceable battery (the same batteries used in my drills, recip saw, and weed eater). These batteries outlasted my B&D with built-in battery by a long shot (still going compared with the B&D with run time at 10 seconds after less than 2 years of ownership). These handhelds are planned obsolescence products which annoys me greatly. Look to Makita, Dewalt, Milwaukee, Craftsman, Ryobi Hitachi with replaceable batteries. Especially if you you already have a tool system or think you might need drills. The Hitachi is lowest price ($35 tool only) and comes with hard floor wand.
I would go for the pivot one. As someone with allergic rhinitis and asthma, flying dust particles are definitely not my friends. I suppose it really depends on what you’re using the vacuum for. The cheaper variant is fine for large particles like pet food, the middle one for finer particles, and the pivot one for large and fine particles.
I totally understnad, if the blowback was an issue for me I would prefer the pivot as well.

You have no idea how helpful your reviews have been for me! Right now I’m kinda short on money cuz I moved and had to buy a lot of stuff and my Eureka vacuum cleaner broke, I was looking for a replacement specially for dust that I generate installing shelves. I was worried I was being cheap picking up the basic dustbuster. Turns out it is the smart buy (for me).
The brushes at the front are for hard surfaces and loosening dust off fabrics. She should have noticed that when moving forward, the bristles would flick the sand forward making vacuuming ineffective. Hand helds are more effective when used in a backwards motion, particularly on carpets and closer to upright to allow larger objects get sucked in. These are all my experiences and I own the middle one. Love it except for the filter.
I bought the most expensive one in January 2018 for $67.00 from Amazon. Talk about price-gouging. It doesn’t hold a charge for more than two minutes. 😏
FILTER LONGEVITY: The real problem with small handhelds is the filters clog quickly. Cyclonics are much better but they are not perfect. FLOUR TEST: a great test would be to see how quickly flour clogs the filters. (This test would be like cleaning up drywall dust after sanding.) MAX: I suspect the battery is not replaceable which means it's a very expensive throwaway unit. I probably has the greatest suction power and a cyclonic filter so it's about the best you can do. MID: Appears to have a semi-cyclonic filter which should be a big plus regarding clogging. LOW: This is not cyclonic. The straight through "brute force" filters clog instantly when dealing with "drywall dust." OPINIONS: MAX: Not worth it if the battery is non replaceable and the unit is a throw away. MID: Probably best bang for buck when dealing with "dust." LOW: Good value but will be very frustrating to use when dealing with "dust."
Thanks a lot for such a thorough review/comparison! Just one question: the one that you own, the pivot model, does it still have some power today, is it usable?
I loved your no nonsense review! Well done!. I actually own the B&D Pivot and have had it for just over 2 years and now it's starting to experience the battery power loss intemitenly. I have enjoyed the versatility of this vacuum but I'm struggling to buy it again due to the battery issue and probably will try a shark handheld next time.
Finally an unbiased non sponsored review. The black and decker (the middle one) is praised by critics everywhere to be best vaccume but most of these people are sponsored and payed to say something good about it. So I appreciate this consumer based review that is more to the point of showing the pro/cons with a more accurate honest analysis. Thank you.
For around 120 USD (38,000 HUF) it was out of reach...BUT: just ordered the Pivot PV1820 for around 60 bucks on Black Friday today 😉. Pivot Auto has been in use in my new car for over 1 year, still working flawless, therefore I had no 2nd thought after seeing BF offer for around 60 USD for the houshold battery version. Pivot Auto has only around 15 airwatts, but it is still decent. I can just imagine what 35 airwatts will do.
Info on B&D 20V: it takes 3 and half hours to fully charge and run for 10 minutes if a full charge. the good thing is that it doesn't loose power gradually, it keeps running on full suction power then suddenly stops working. For me that is a good thing!
What a great review. Had to drop the 👍🏾 I think the best value has to be the black and decker though. The one you recommended is cheaper but to the cost of people's health. If it's releasing dust back into the air that can be very unhealthy, so spending money on the one you suggest can't be a smart buy, but...you get what you pay for. I would think people prioritize anti-allergen cleaners at this point. Anyway, i landed here because i was looking for the best handheld vacuum for my car but after doing some research i think the better move is to go with a 2 in 1. Do you think you could review any of the below? or maybe pit them together. They all have a handheld element to them. - Hikeren Cordless Vacuum - Deik Cordless Vacuum - Shark ION P50- Tineco Pure ONE - BLACK+DECKER POWERSERIES PRO
PS: Great review, really showed important things that 99% of reviewers don't do. So really detailed review, but all the details you show are SUPER important. And its crazy how NOBODY else shows or gives these detailed examples. 👍
Excellent review! I LOVE the fact that you added all 3, *with links, in the description, & that you ALSO took the time to note the pros & cons "at a glance" *& the time stamps!!, in the description as well!! Could not ask for a more thorough review! 👍👊 Thanks so much!
Hey thanks for the review however I used your link to buy the $30 b&d vacuum and once I got it I realized it was the wrong b&d vacuum (they look almost identical but different models) may want to change the link.
Great review video, thank you! The BD Pivot is currently $70 (usually $90) so that's much easier to pick up vs the lowest (which is still $30). Edit: Forgot to ask, how is the filter? Says you have to replace it every x months?
Great review...very thorough and easy to understand. I was thinking of the middle one before the review, but now....not so much. Great job, you have a new subscriber.
Thanks for this. I’m looking to get one. I really like this review. You really showed the utility of these vacs. Even the sound test, hearing it does more for me than watching someone put a sound meter on it. If you test the 20V B&D with the hose that would be cool.
Thank you this review was very helpful. I am definitely getting the cheaper model, I'll make my own adjustment to prevent the dust from blowing out the back. I would appreciate if you test the Black & Decker wet/ dry hand vacuum.
I was just about to close this video since I just wanted a review for the little one, but I am soooooo glad I watched this. Super amazing video! Thank you a lot!
first of all, you are a wonderful teacher! plain speaking & thorough! secondly, thank you. i was between the the basic & the advanced. reviews can make you crazy when 10 say its great & 10 say not so much. your demos answered all my questions. i subscribed!
Great review. I need mine to pickup bug parts that collect regularly in my window sills. Definitely don’t want the cheap one with messy emptying of container. Yuck!!!
Very well done review. I actually bought the pivot. $79 on Amazon. I always want more power and I don’t want dust blown out the back as I use it indoors and I don’t want dust blowing out the back all over the furniture etc. Yes I paid more for the pivot but for something I use so frequently I don’t want the hassles of the cheap one just to save $40. You get what you pay for. Just a note: all of these cordless vacuums, even the bigger ones, have a problem with the battery not lasting more than a few years at best. All of them. If you can find a battery powered hand vacuum $100 or less that has a battery that still performs like new with regular use after more than a few years, I want to know what it is. And if they made removable batteries like some of my power tools, those batteries would cost about the same as buying a whole new vacuum at this price point. It’s a trade off with these hand held units. They all fade after a while but you trade that for the convenience of no cord. You could get something like the dewalt cordless vacuum that uses a 20v interchangeable battery pack, but you are paying $150 for the vacuum (with no battery) and then $70 for the battery. So you are into it for $220. Again you get what you pay for.
Great review! I think you helped regarding my buy. I was considering the middle one, but base on your review, it is off the table. I agree the low end one is the best buy. However, I'm going for the hi-end one because of 30 air watts. Thx so much! :-)
I bought the 16V model a couple weeks ago. Not impressed with the plastic everything model. Charge doesn't last long enough, the canister to empty is difficult to remove and put back on. Hit and miss on the locks. If you have any arthritis in your hands this junk will find it. Waste of money in my opinion.
What a fantastic video. In the market for a Pivot right now and this video made it pretty clear...Hair & dust piles from my cat is what I'm after...the Pivot may be overkill but i like how compact it is...my apt is small enough so space saving is huge with me where i can just tuck it away :)

The Quick Clean is a perfect machine that they ruined with the Crevice Tool design. You are eventually going to hurt your hands trying to close that thing. Such poor design that it's a shame.
Long time owner of the Pivot. Battery is dying and there is no replacement battery pack anywhere even though it has a plug to disconnect it. Items get caught in the trap door. Worked great overall when it worked.
Apparently the b&d 16v always needs to be on the charger. I left on the charger for 24hrs. Put it in my trunk use it a week later and it barely ran for 2 minutes
This is BY FAR the best compare and review video! Very helpful information/demonstration with practical features and user difficulties highlighted. Great work!
Damn that black+decker vacuum! I was bullied in Dubai Tower floor 18 partition where the walls are made of paper thin plywood. The boys of the partition kept knocking on my door and accused me of noise pollution because of the “drilling noises”, I fought back and said that it wasn’t me and it’s the one next door. When we asked the girl next door, she said that she doesn’t own any drill. I eventually changed flat and bought this black and decker vacuum and suddenly it dawned on me that those pesky “drilling noises” was someone using this vacuum all along.
Ordered the cheapest one... Love the wall mount...... replacing older wall mounted Red Dirt Devil. Gonna miss that Dirt Devil, been with me many years.
It is not the same one. I have the old pivot like you and lasted for many years but just died so I have been looking but there is no replacement. The closet one has short battery life with many complaints.
2024 here. Awesome Video. Thank You. I just ordered the Pivot Vac. Right now it’s just $71.79 on Amazon. Can’t wait to use it. Thanks again for the review and test 👍👍
All reviews should be like this one, I love it. The goal of a review is to help you make a decision and this one did just that... Thank you so much
I found it took far to much time to get all the stats across the board.

Great review, would have loved to know how long they take to charge up from dead to full battery. :)
I mean, really, why? Does anyone need a handheld vacuum that frequently?
I just found your channel and I don't get why you have more subscribers, you do a good job describing features and I love the time stamps :)

Thank you for this in-depth review - it definitely helped me in choosing the right hand vacuum (the lowest price) 😁👍
I’d like to see these compared to the Ryobi 18v hand vac… I like that the battery is removable and works on lots of different tools!

Me too :)
I have the middle one and don't have the issues shown in this video. Not knocking the reviewer at all. She's great. BnD has QC issues IMO.
I don't even need a hand vacuum but great review extremely thorough!

What about the Dirt Devil, I was just wondering how the competition is for that one.
I've had the one back in the 80s it done super well and affordable so I would get the cheap one again
You not supose to have the brush out on carpet.

my pivot is coming this week. it's going back as fast as it arrives. not worth it having a vacuum for 2 to 3yrs. battery issue killed it for me.
I was all into the middle one until you actually performed the test. That was disappointing, but good to know. Excellent job on this review!

So what's a good strong careless vacuum for your car?? I don't like anything u have a hard time picking up dust etc
I bought the 16V model a couple weeks ago. Not impressed with the plastic everything model. Charge doesn't last long enough, the canister to empty is difficult to remove and put back on. Are you a liberal? Do you hate God and Christianity? Do you support antifa and blm? I would put my money on it. You just have that look.
The Quick Clean is a perfect machine that they ruined with the Crevice Tool design. You are eventually going to hurt your hands trying to close that thing. Such poor design that it's a shame.

A good review and me I would personally have the moist expensive one because it is more compact.
After two years the battery is not working correctly, quitting after 10 seconds or less
My Shark lasted many more years
Great video! I’m trying to make a little machine and needed a quick fix for suction and this really helped.
The Quick Clean includes a built in quick die battery
Very good review, ticked all the boxes I would have tested.
I don’t want dust to be coming out so should I get the more expensive one?
Hand vacuums not worth it with battery or without, it has very small capacity
Waste of money
Well.. you don't use a hardwood attachment on carpet.. of course.
A great review, thanks. 🏴
one issue is see with them in general is the tube or lack of tube. for the vacuum seal clothing storage type
Very helpful, thank you. Pivot vac it is.
Anybody got an opinion on the pivot vs the 20v version of the advanced clean?
I wish you can give your review about pet hair removal for these three models

Excellent review, thank you.
i've had the B&D folding one for almost 7 years. it's the BEST
I'm betting they don't even make it anymore do they lol? Nothing made is as good as it was 10-20 even 30 years ago. Such a shame!

I can't believe they changed the wall charger to the butt plate 😫how can I hang it.
Best comparison review on the World Wide Web........... thanks..... fav'd and sub'd....
My company is offering the middle one as one of the option for a gift. Definitely not getting it after seeing this
I hope the i Didn't make a mistake getting the advanced clean
