I had a ton of fun organizing this tier list with barrack and donald, it was nice of sleepy joe to take the time out of his schedule to do the call with us. Definitely a little peeved to hear donald talk such trash about the OG ATF but I kept my mouth shut. Hoping to do more lists in the future!
REAL TALK THOUGH: I'm guessing these opinions are an amalgamation of the full spectrum of opinions on ATF games. It's nice to hear some depth on the lesser-known ones like Osaka and Darkness. It's often forgotten that Osaka was actually an experiment into RPG-like elements, ultimately it failed because text RP is incompatible with survival mechanics. Darkness was mostly unpopular purely because it was confusing. People didn't know where to go, got lost easily, didn't even know what the scenario was really. But I loved the game and I loved working on it - and it is indeed the most bleak of the ATF backstories.
On the topic of Rain having a full city with interiors - much less was expected of RP games in 2014. Many people forget however that the current system in Rain was released only a few months before Deep Six came out. Before that, in every way it was just like Darkness - except it had good animations, the first radio, and the first weather patterns (the first ATF game I also coded myself). Nowadays, MUCH more work and money goes into building things. It's way higher quality, but things take longer. Wintertide's "partial-interiors city" is actually based on Rain's, where only around 15% of the buildings have interiors. But coming from Mirage's much smaller town which did have around 95% interiors - Sunrise City can feel emotionally like a step down even if statistically it ain't.
Again, the opinions expressed in this video exceed my expectations when we get to Deep Six. It's true, I had a 'political awakening' before Deep Six was released, when I started watching Vox's Ukraine War videos (2014) thinking war was some glorious crusade of good vs evil when really I was just watching monstrous and greedy men command poor people to fight on top of other peoples' homes - literally just average people watching TV and suddenly a bomb ends it all. I felt it was my duty to make a game to portray the reality I was seeing. Deep Six was flawed in many ways but I am still quite proud of what it is and what it communicates. Though I would call it more dystopian RP than post-apoc RP.
Agree mostly on all the positives and negatives about ATF7 - though for "Obama's" opinion here I gotta say, every single game has been 75% newbies and only a small amount of high quality RP. ATF7 was no different here, I think the toxic newbie vs veteran split of ATF7 vs Overcast made people notice this and mistake ATF7 as unique for having ' more low quality RP'. Mirage didn't leave any 'scars' on the community, the toxic split between 7 and 7.5's audiences did. Putting ATF7 in C tier feels like peak 'jaded veteran RPer' energy to me - completely ignoring the relatively normal RP quality for the first 2 years of its lifespan. Should've guessed 7.5 would go in S following that LOL.
Overall though great video, positives outweigh the negatives, nicely done.

Chad I genuinely think this is the most agreeable and relatable thing you have ever said. If you asked me who said this without putting your name on it, I would have thought it was your first Player in ATF1. It really opened my eyes on your takes of the games, and your takes of the community I will not lie to you. I know im 6 months late but I think it still counts.
Just make the game less corporate, more individualistic, let the community influence the story more, make official events feel less forced, stop the moderation pettiness and you'll be alright.

personally, mirage is an S tier game, its what first got me into ATF, and i had zero clue what i was doing. i learned, practiced, and ran into some strange situations, but i now love wintertide (another S tier game). wintertide has great graphics, factions, weapons, and a community with people from all over.

Wintertide would be with mirage at S tier for me if they kept the original lore. I understand that Chad wasn't a fan of the 2032 timeline, but it made sense and was logical. Now, in wintertide, you are 90 some years after the flash, yet the game tries to be like every other one in the series except d6. If wintertide did what d6 did, it would probably still be in S tier, even with different lore.

Overcast was indeed the best. The best RP experiences I ever had was in Overcast. I still look back on those memories, and wish I could go back and relive them.
ATF5 Rain is the most superb - it is what started what you might think of the modern ATF.
Good video man, i created a tier list of after the flash too, but mine have fan-mades, yeah, i think nobody played some of these fan-mades but i just put it because i found it, and i played some of the fan-mades like all the Reimagined, the Isle and the ATF Brazil.

Having since moved on largely to LOTA I do find myself on occasion looking back to ATF to see what it's doing. Obviously the joke here isn't lost on me but I can also see a level of genuine opinion through these talking pieces. It's interesting to see what people think of these games. Improvement largely stems from a constructive opinion, more often than not, Flashstormers default to aggression to get their way. It's a breath of fresh air to see something like this.
I'm not a 'die-hard' ATF player by any measure of the word. I've been around since the back-end of Deep Winter and Deep Six but haven't engaged any later than that. I do owe a lot to this franchise for its introduction to roleplay and its help in my development as a writer/artist, but it'd be untruthful to say I haven't my own share of problems.
ATFDW and DS struggled to maintain any semblance of moderation. Just about any non-event recording of these two games is someone ERPing or Exploiting. It made for a very chaotic and distracting place to play. I think the overtly 'brutal' tone DW demonstrated was its greatest selling point. I care little for DS.
ATF7 is where I actually started really getting into this sort of game. It's what propelled me into LOTA in the first place. I left due to its oftentimes toxic playing experience. You were treated like a dog if you weren't over a certain level, players would talk down to you on every facet of the game, and moderation was wildly inconsistent at best. I found LOTA more amicable for my needs, been there ever since.
Originally I had feared the same for the Eighth installment. On its release it looked to be a continuation of Mirage's poor choices. To my surprise it has come into its own and developed beyond what I had originally expected. Its growth pains aren't without fault, I know it has alienated many, but its a testament to the vigor of those involved that the game is as good of a state it is in.
I don't know what the future holds for these titles but whatever the case I look forward to seeing future developments.

I was in only one faction during Overcast, so I really wouldn't be comfortable giving opinions (Which is indirectly what I'm doing) on any of the factions, it'd just make for an unfunny video.
Same reason I don't plan to do OFFs because I'm only in two of them atm. We'll see.

I already feel the nostalgia junkies typing up an essay due to Wintertide’s ranking compared to ATF-6 and 7’s ranking.
In my opinion its fair, while its a great game, it does need much more character to make it better than it is currently.

@@benry1239 To be fair, there are 50 views and the video is a few hours old, tbh I doubt any of those comments were made regardless. If they were made and deleted, they were probably over-insulting, overly hostile, and not constructive whatsoever (which is common for ATF players), which imo warrants them being deleted.
Edit: Alright, looking at yours it ticks those three boxes. Constructive comments like “Hey please include the presidents more” is infinitely more useful then, “this list suuuuckssss”.

The only reason that I stayed with the series is because overcast took me farther away from the desert and there was way less CRPers and some amazing people.
He's right, Overcast was the Goat.
It was the ATF game where i learned how to RP right.
I remember me and one guy rp'ing being stalked by what was basically a Rake, and we only survived because it got distracted attacking some guys trying to rob us and we managed to get away.
I hope ATF 9 or 8.5 goes back to something similar to overcast, not a complete copy but something similar.

I started and abandoned ATF in Mirage, didn't play Overcast, and rejoined in wintertide.
I can say that Chad has been pulling new audience, a new generation of ATF players in progress, so whatever happends in ATF 9, there's a whole new playerbase that will follow.

Mirage was my first game, and i have a lot of memories on that game, however wasnt perfect obviously, i am a person that i prefer the Char Dev than the CRP and yeah, Mirage had a LOT of CRP. But overall i still love it, in his way.
I honestly never play D6 on his start, but the idea of a another conflict that take place so much after a nuclear war in a urban-like scenario its gold for me, i repeat, i didnt play it on his start, but i play it (when the game has died lol) and i like it.

Wintertide its... weird for me, the customization its literally art, i love it, also the guns, but i dont like pretty much the RP, the atmosphere is weird, and Sunrise its.. meh, Boulder Cove was superior but i like the idea of sunrise, i dont hate Wintertide, it just its not the peak of atf

It's absolutely a personal choice but Deep Six will always be my favourite ATF. It was unique in the sense that it was very POST-apocalyptic, far into the future. It wasn't a falloutesque survival based roleplay like the other ATF games, it was purely political and sort of a wartime civilian RP that isn't found in any other game on roblox. The threats to your life werent mutants or radstorms, the threats to your life were artillery and a fucking B1 Lancer.

I will say. Overcast's cryptids sucked ass. From my experience with them they were just moderators on a power trip. Me nor any of my friends were able to fight back or escape them. I had a whole story line going with one of my friends on overcast. And it was going actually going somewhere hella cool. But then we were attacked by some random ass Cryptid. and its not the fact that we were attacked, nor the fact that my friends character died. and essentially erased all of the cool char dev we were building up.
The main thing that pissed me off about a lot of Cryptid encounters, was that you cant do jack shit against them. Its not like an Eldritch encounter, where you would probably die. But you could put up a hell of a fight. You couldn't've done anything. and if you tried. The mod controlling the Cryptid would literally god mod you.
Cryptids were imo the worst part about overcast. I only had ONE good encounter with them. and thats when i was running away from a guy trying to rob me. and Cryptid came out of nowhere to start god modding the robber.
Though i really liked everything else about 7.5
