Noticed those Altras right off on yesterday's vid. In my experience feet will grow/change over time so not too unusual to suddenly "outgrow" a shoe that worked for years. Definitely Altra's my go-to shoe for the past 10+years. My feet are wide and I preferred to go barefoot before they came along - for years. fwiw I've long wondered why all the "regular" shoes have those pointed toe boxes. My feet sure don't have pointed ends! Back in the day (maybe still) they'd tell us to "break the shoe in" if it didn't fit!
Good call bringing the go-pro. That was a cool underwater frog picture. Thumbs up to Cody for the PSA photo of undoing the chest and waist belts when crossing fast, flowing water. I don't see that nearly enough in other AT hiker videos. Lastly, you have had the absolute worst weather for an AT hike. The rain and cold and wind and bad views and mud is a reminder that the AT isn't for the faint of heart.
OMG! SO GLAD SLEEP C LOTHES AMD SLEEPING BAG STAYED DRY!! THANK YOU CODY FOR BEING WITH TAYLOR TO FINISH THIS. HAVE TO SAY, THE SONG FROM TOYSTORY COMES TO MIND WATCHING THOS. "YOUVE GOT A FRIEND IN ME!"😊
Went through the HMW the week before labor day, climbed Katadin on 9/3. Weather was a bit humid but not flooded at all. Had some super magical days there full of sunshine, quiet, and new trail friends. sorry you all caught more rain. -Fieldtrip, FF, '23
lol! get used to this. going southbound this time of the year it always rains on you starting 20 minutes before you reach camp. good luck, and congrats for finally hiking the right direction! ;-)
Poor Taylor! You just can't catch a break. You got off the trail because of flooding and when you come back, it's still flooding! (Meanwhile, we're in a drought. We'd love some of that rain if you could ship it down. 😁)
Taylor ! My kiddos and I are Cheering you on!!! We have been since you started this journey. ❤❤❤ You're doing amazing. Hope you get a reprieve. Keep swimming 😂😂😂 (finding Nemo)
I had jotted down Appalachian hiking trails & you had popped up. I'm realizing that I'm putting together a travel bucket list for I & my husband. I enjoy hiking & exploring. I'm looking to hike somewhere that is not that treacherous in Tennesse & North Carolina. Specially, we live in Tennessee.
Wow, the water pouring from that hollowed out log @ 7:11 is really neat! You did well to stay on your feet with all the slippery stuff you encountered. I LOVE water, eastern mountain streams in particular, but my hat is off to you two for slogging through all that.
Hey there Taylor. I have to say your second thru hike of the trail has been drastically different the the first time. You sure are getting your moneys worth on the challenge side. Just keep your head down a little longer and you are gonna have some stories to tell about this one. I am glad to see some of the precautions being done to be safer. Showing Cody unsnapping his chest strape on that crossing was cool. Victory is close. Keep embracing the suck all the water has created and finish this. Thinking about yall.
I’m so praying for you & Cody. The mental willpower you must draw in to be on trail & to complete your 2023 AT hike. When you have already done it once & after your hold & separation from the trail to get back on is inspiring because you have nothing to provide . ❤😊 Love watching. 😊
I wish i had my map or guide out watching your videos. My 379 day LASH GA to VA, ME to VA was 11 years ago now so the place memories aren't as fresh, oh and two kids later doesn't help. Kudos to you guys for being so patient on camera with trail conditions. When I got to Rainbow ledge shelter, I think, I remember loosing my s**t and ranting about the MATC not building bridges like the PATC. But later, I got schooled about how winter here in ME breaks trail bridges too fast to be worth building. Also, we just don't have as many volunteers & money for the MATC as other trail clubs. And access to the trail can be haaard! - Unicoi Zoom '12-'13
Hi Taylor, glad you had Cody with you to finish..those floods are so scary I hope when I approach the AT next year I have weather like your first time you did your through hike..you both are so inspirational and making smart choices and going those extra 10 miles..by the way I played your hikenopoly it was so long but loved it..anyways glad your done..and hope to see more videos of your hikes in NH..
You are an amazing hiker! I started to hike the AT/LT July 9th. I have never been in such hard rains in my entire life! The trail was a river and or a mud pit. We took every other day, to every couple of days off to dry out. I actually watched your Rangely Video at that time. It was not fun and with the Green Mountain Club, asking for hikers to delay and be aware of trail damage, we decided to head to Stratton and Hike NOBO to Katahdin. We luckily had only one afternoon, and a couple of nighttime rains before we caught a break that allowed us to enjoy the hike. To give you an idea, the morning we left Rainbow, we walked across those logs which were dry and had space between it and the stream (river for you). While we did have fording to do, the worst was at or just above knee level and not too fast. That one section you showed here was crazy! Your mental toughness should never come in question! Thanks for showing how demanding the AT can truly be!
I am surprised more hikers don’t get really sick hiking in these conditions. Soggy socks, and being chilled to the bone is a recipe for pneumonia. Good luck! 🍀
So strange, I was there about a month and half ago at the end of my NOBO hike. We did not have that much water on the trail. I don't even remember that water crossing she did at the start. So i guess a month and a half really changed the trail conditions the hurricane or tropical storm must have done a number. looks like your going strong. best of luck to ya
No way I could walk around in wet shoes and so cks everyday. I wear 10in high brogans to prevent that and would do it if I hiked the trail and have clean dry socks everyday🎉 5:32
I should have though of this earlier, but I would suggest you get a GoPro camera instead of using your phone. You could go hands free in various ways so you don’t have to carry your phone while crossing flooded streams.
I’m confused about this hike. I thought you had to hike either all nobo or sobo at one time to consider it a completion in one calendar year. Sorry just felt a little anticlimactic to stand at the top of Katahdin and then go down sobo for several miles. Always love the videos but these last few were hard to follow.
It doesn't have to be either nobo or sobo. Lots of people flip flop too! Doesn't have to be a calendar year either. 365 days works. I had a traditional nobo thru-hike 2 years ago so I'm fine piecing together this hike into my already crazy schedule
The Appalachian Trail Conservancy actually encourages "flip-flop" thru-hikes, and has a few sample flip-flop itineraries on its site. Flip-flops help lessen the pressure of so many people on the trail at the same time.
Lee, you have to be on the top of your game with Taylor and prepared at all times, expect the unexpected 🥳😜😂 Taylor likes to change things up from time to time 😆 You're doing great Taylor! ♥️
@@jenspencer9906😂 Taylor is extremely consistent at dropping videos at 7 AM! I was home at 7 AM just waiting for the video to drop and it never did and I had to go out of town with some family members so I’m not watching it until 2:35 PM!!! But congrats on being first! I’m gonna try really hard to be first tomorrow!😂😂😂
Any time i ever think i might want to hike the AT, im going to rewatch this episode. That should chase that idea right out of my head!
I went to Rangeley last year and hiked the at a few miles. I realized I'd never want to thru hike it again. Like a interstate highway
Agree. Mahoosec Notch as well keeps me from ever wanting to hike the whole AT.
Well done. The rivers and streams are so intense. Be careful and thanks for sharing your day. 😊

1:04 You were so right with that statement. Slogging sucks, but you guys did amazing. 💪 Here's to drier days coming. ✌️
👍 👍… one for Cody, one for you. Forge on.
Happy Trails
You guys are TOUGH !!! What a TEAM
You even give us a underwater shot on the AT . 👍👍👍👍 hard to believe that there is still so much water !

Classic Maine.
That brook ( after the frog closeup!) was RAGING ! Wild weather this year all around. Hiking with Cody was a good option.
OMG that is so crappy but not forever. Taylor you are Great.💖😊🧚♀️
Taylor your smile is the sunshine on such a rainy day 🌞
Cool shots of the froggy and the water pouring through the log! Thanks Tay. Keep slogging
It's as Mother Nature said, zero days or not, you are getting rained on. You have this. Keep pushing!

There's so much water it's starting to look like the Florida trail.
With fewer alligators.

I was at Watchusett mountain in MA today and it was climbing up a river, Last year it was dry as a bone
Holy crap. The rain/water is insane. Happy trails.🤘🏻🥾⛰️
This was a great video because it is the real trail not just the fun sunny days. At least you don’t have 2,000 miles to go :)
What a day..your determination is amazing!!
Taylor, I’m SORRY I was LATE to watching this .. I was watching the other TAYLOR at the Chiefs game. You’re still my favorite TAYLOR.
So proud of you and Cody!! Thank You for making time to take us along.
OMG! What a rough one….and what a good friend to slush through it with you. Your positive attitude at the end was most impressive considering!

So happy to see you dry at the end of the video. How difficult is to hike. My respect
Making the best of the time on the trail 🌻 👣
Safe travels.
That is the definition of a good friend. Coming through in the clutch. The extra motivation of having a partner for that suck-fest had to be crucial.
Looks like the word “wilderness” certainly describes very well what you guys are going through. Wow! Keep charging!

Irony you got off the trail because of water only to be right back in it. Good luck and safe travels.
Wet day but it didn't seem to dampen y'all's sprits!
As I remember, there was a detour to take for that crossing.
You're not hiking the Appalachian Trail, you are hiking the Appalachian River. Good luck, thanks for sharing.
If nothing else some major bragging rights
Cody looking jacked!
Sorry you are having such rainy weather and sloppy trails. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow. Hang in there.
You 2 are to be commended for your toughness! You are definitely tougher than you give yourself credit for!❤👍👏🏻🎉🎉🎉
I'm looking forward to you comparing your 2 thru hikes! I enjoy your videos! Do you ever communicate with Frozen?
Yeah, the weather kinda sucks. Not sure what the air temperature is, but cold, continuous rain is the worst! You’re doing great!

😮😮😮😮😮 OMG 😳 I'd rather go home 😂 you guys are brave 😅
Hey my friend, have you ever tried that propel that stuff is the bomb a lot better than any of the other stuff out on the market?
4:05 it’s pouring out and you still have that COVER Girl look.
You get extra points for carrying a camera on the water crossing. Are the shorts for water crossing?
What brand and style of tent to you use and why?
I should have though of this earlier, but I would suggest you get a GoPro camera instead of using your phone. You could go hands free in various ways so you don’t have to carry your phone while crossing flooded streams.
Is the trail (stream crossings, mud, etc ) always like this? Or is this year an anomaly?
Cody has some strong legs
Did you say sleept? 😆
Yeahh that's what happens when I film the moment I wake up haha
