My Grandmother made the Mail Order 1236 (3rd from last around the 46 minute mark) It was her 'good dress' for many, many years. The dress was a wedgewood blue crepe with cream lace trim and pearl buttons.
She would have looked so elegant in that dress, I loved that one and the 1928 top and skirt suit, both would be wonderful trimmed with vintage buttons.
The Marian Martin 9318 is wonderful. 😘 Back in my 110 lb 1980's I would have loved this dress pattern. My fashionable mother, who worked in the Pentagon in the mid 1940's would have loved this dress too.
What’s up with all the straight pins? Is there a way to scan a pattern and do a group sew along? Even if it’s an apron I think a live stream of sewing the same pattern with you would be so fun.
Found your channel last week, binge watched your videos, and fell down the rabbit hole of vintage patterns. Love your sense of humor, don't ever change.
Whoever put this collection together had mad taste - I’ve never watched a pattern haul before that I loved pretty much every single one of..! The details of all of these are just a little bit different from the average but so classy. Loved it ☺️
I really need to remember to have a notebook with me whenever I watch your unboxing videos; I always want to check out some of the patterns in more detail. I love seeing the variety of designs that have been made through the years. You can always TRACE the patterns and then sell the originals! Then you're not keeping any! Please make the mystery slip! (Slip fabric musings: Silk is great and all, but it's expensive and warm. Polyester is nasty. I'm unsure about nylon. Bemberg rayon MIGHT be great but I haven't tested it yet. Linings made from rayons such as viscose, lyocell, etc. may also work; I just bought a 70%/30% viscose/polyester organza on clearance from Joann that was part of their Casa collection and I'm optimistic about it. It was originally $29.97/yard and I got it for $6.99/yard, so I'm considering that a very lucky find! Joann also carries what they call "Silky Lyocell Fabric" which is drapey and soft and I want to bury myself in it, but it is a bit too grippy for a slinky slip. Makes great summer PJ's and tap pants, though. I'm currently having a love affair with rayons, can you tell?) Oh man, do I LOVE that mail order with the cool top! 13:52 I would love to make and wear that!
Stephanie, you are a treasure - AND you find treasures! I'm so glad I found you because patterns are my thing, especially of course, vintage patterns. Already ordered a cute one... more to come, I am sure.
I just love listening to your delight as you discover hand-me-down treasures. This series is very helpful because I am downsizing. My huge stash of sewing supplies - from me, Mom, Grandma - is more than I can use in my lifetime. It's good to know how to pass it along to others who will enjoy it.
The Christmas stocking thing is where you got nuts and candy in the stocking. I was given far too many of those as gifts. Wish I’d gotten paper dolls, every time. She just saved the stocking to use later, like my mom did, but it never was.
Someday I might be sending you the dresser drawer full of my mom's. Oh the times spent sitting at the little desks going through the glossy pattern books. I don't think there is even a place to do that in my town anymore. :( Love your stuff. It's great. Oh, and undergarments definitely do NOT count as your pick.
hee hee, secret pants. I have to wonder about the newspaper. My grandmother's old patterns occasionally had a piece or 2. I wonder if it was because the factory was out of tissue pieces, so they cut one out of newspaper, and sent it out.
@@rd6203 😁 Procrastination Nation. You know, it's a shame that we have to guess. Had I known about the newspaper in her patterns, I would just have asked her -- and then we ALL could know.
28:17 that is an old Christmas stocking. when I was in grade school they sold these in stores they were pre-filled with coloring books and candy. Kind like the Easter basket they sell today.
It was quite common for patterns to be cut out of newspaper when making alternations or to save the tissue from being worn out. Or if you borrowed a pattern to cut it out of newspaper before returning to the owner. Frugal ladies back in the day.
Is there a site where people post things they have made with vintage pattern? This was a wonderful selection except for the sizes. Loved the styling details on the patterns you showed in this video.
Stephanie - love the patterns this week. For the future, would it be possible for you to scan the one pattern that you keep so that others could have it in PDF form? That way you can make a little money off of it and still keep it for yourself! Also love the word “cute” 😂
There were so many awesome patterns! I would take all the 38 bust if I could, but alas the budget is small to none right now. I found it funny that you received another girls one piece pajama pattern right after sending me the other one. My girls are so excited about those pajamas. If you make simplicity 2514 for your daughter she can twin with my girls because I have made this one for my girls. It is darling cute.
I wish I had been interested in vintage and sewing before both my grandmothers passed away. I can only assume their sewing stuff was either gifted to another family member or given to charity.
The little girls' patterns are so cute. I just can't imaging little kids wearing anything like that today without ruining it in 30 seconds flat. Equally, I can't imaging small kids being much different today than from 60 years ago so were the cute things essentially party dresses or for functions rather than for everyday?
forgive me Stephanie for I have sinned... I have put tape on a few of my vintage pattern envelopes. The envelope was falling apart and I thought that tape would be better than losing the whole envelope but I didnt know that the acid in the tape would ruin it like this (I thought the reason to not use tape was because it looks bad and can catch on the tissue, but I should have done more research) :( Is there anything I can do now to mitigate the damage of the tape. I know now about archival tape and proper acid free storage so Im using those going forward but I still feel bad about the tape on those few envelopes :(
It's ok, we have all sinned in some way, even I (at the WEE BEGINNINGS of my career) *GASP* cut apart a 1950's mail order instruction packet (because there were no pieces, just instructions) and made a notebook from it. Now, I have since learned and will never do THAT again. And yes, there is a way to recover from it, but I am trying to align my schedule with that of the owners of Vintage4Me2, the queens of removing tape. Keep an eye out in 2022, I WILL get this video made so we can all save the patterns!
A way to hang on to an extra few patterns. You give yourself 3 months to make it. Whether you do, or not, sell the pattern after 3 months. Your still selling the pattern, it just takes you awhile. 😉 Thanks for saving them!
I'm either really lucky or have a good immune system. I work BOH in a fast food restaraunt and have cut myself on metal and occassionally sharp plastic things more times than I can count. My mom is legit concerned if my tetanus booster is up to date.
Since there are 4 bags -shouldn't you get to keep one per bag? (even if they all come from one bag within th box) The mystery pattern should not count but please make it I inherited 1 newspaper pattern -as in pattern pieces cut out of newspaper- drafted by my grandmother in 1938-one of my prized possessions We have a picture of her in it and I made it for my daughter (who hated it)
S Tonne of tape no Screaming Goat, puttering about, can't see screen, hears Screaming Goat.. what could possibly merit an SG more than the tape!? ... oh my. Great vidi hope you're not reading this till you're back in Florida happy vaycay and of course pattens for kids & pets don't count
Lol when I started draping my own patterns I transferred them onto news paper! I have graduated to something better but I can relate! Please make the mystery pattern!!
I know this was a while ago but I say again. Wear plastic gloves where going through these. You touch your face too much and yeah we don't want any sores on your cute face.

The mesh Christmas stockings were da BOMB filled with the best penny candies and maybe a small toy.
Oh they absolutely were the BEST!

It's CONTAGIOUS!
Welcome to Wonderland 🤗
Because Grandma P always had to do a full bust adjustment, she traced the patterns, never cut them out. I haven't dared to unfold them again.
Whoever put this collection together had mad taste - I’ve never watched a pattern haul before that I loved pretty much every single one of..! The details of all of these are just a little bit different from the average but so classy. Loved it ☺️
I'm dying to see you do the mystery slip

I had the 1970s overall pattern when I was 15 or 16; Mother made it from light blue chambray, topstitched with red thread. Very cute!
Make it, make it, make it
So I had insomnia again found you had just uploaded. Yes to the mystery slip. Sew it, please?
I had the little girls 40s patter (1st one):mum made me as a party dress in yellow Swiss dotted fabric..,very sweet
See, you need mystery slip, one day dress and your pick. All different needs.

So fun! You have me wondering what happened to my grandmother's patterns. I might have to make a call to my aunt

More likely because some of the tissue from those days was pretty much useless (>.

Love you proclaiming: Save the pattern!!! But let's expand ala Heroes : Save the pattern! Save the World!
Love most of these patterns. My favorite is the baby romper. I love baby and children's patterns. Thanks for sharing.
Yes to mystery slip dress
Definitely make the mystery pattern!
Yes! Make the mystery pattern!

Pattern 1477 really was sweet.

Marianne Martin 9318 is gorgeious too.....I love 40s patterns
Ack! Came to say that my new patterns arrived and that I love them.
Realized that I may need more...
My favorite was mail order 1928. 😍
yasss make the mystery pattern!!!
I'm sure that first Duberry little girls dress pattern is the one my Mom used to make dresses for my sister and I. We had so many smocked dresses!
Pattern 1928, the Belaro, please make a video of you making just the top for fashion history. It s so cute.
Stephanie - love the patterns this week. For the future, would it be possible for you to scan the one pattern that you keep so that others could have it in PDF form? That way you can make a little money off of it and still keep it for yourself! Also love the word “cute” 😂
I've been looking for that Hollywood 1066!
New follower here, and I love your top in this video.
I have been transferring all my patterns onto acid free bags in my file cabinet and removing any tape

The audio is not bad at all!!
You’re hair looks amazing.
Enjoy your channel.
The 1928 mail order bolero & skirt, looks like Mrs Mazel one you reviewed recently. Just saying, its similar
you missed a few pins, i went pin spotting mccalls 5021 at least.
I am interested in the first 2 apron patterns.
PLEASE do tell me we can get a scan of that 1928 Simplicity pattern!
I just had to buy the simplicity playsuit set.
Please attempt (or share) the mystery patterns, it's fascinating to see what other people make when not following a standard pattern.
Hello Stephine
Is it possible for you to scan the lovely vintage top knitting patten i would like to buy a copy of it if possible.
Is there somewhere you explain what a du Barry is?
DuBarry was a dress and pattern maker in the 30-40’s.
I would like 1980 playsuit

Maybe they made the everyday clothes out of sturdier fabric?

ok but which fastening do you prefer- pins or CELLOTAPE?! 😱
Yes, make the mystery pattern!!
And no, patterns for your daughter don't count - when she outgrows them you can sell them then ;)
They say the average size is 14-16, I believe it but try to convince social media
Did you make the mystery pattern?? Can I see the video? Pretty please!!
30:25 is the guy on the right, holding a cigarette in his left hand?
Also… You totally need to sew up a couple of those DIY newspaper patterns!
I noticed the cigarette also. Very much the era.
The Mystery Pattern will be a video, right???

My mother who writes in cursive says this: Front button, back frill
For real tho, a tetanus booster is never a bad idea!
Re the size 44 slip : do it, do it, do it, do it……

100% make the mystery pattern! And if it's brilliant, you can make a digital copy and sell it to us.
I use newsprint - end of the roll of paper 😆
trace the patterns you want but can't keep and photocopy the instructions and take a picture of the pattern envelope
I know this was a while ago but I say again. Wear plastic gloves where going through these. You touch your face too much and yeah we don't want any sores on your cute face.
