Always amused by the original prices on these patterns. When I would go fabric shopping, my mother would admonish me “… And don’t you go buying those vogue patterns they cost $1.25…” If she only knew what is the pattern sales for today. She would be shocked.
So many fabulous patterns. Am i the only one that is irresistibly drawn to the shapes and designs that would work least for my body shape. I love the sheath dresses and the 50s ones with fitted waist and panel between waist and bust. I can only dream!
so many fun patterns. I would love a feature if people who have made patterns they have bought from you, to share pictures. I have not made mine yet, but I would share when I do. Giving these patterns new life is amazing. Thank you for what you do!
I saw that one-size Infinity dress (in the same shade of blue as that!) in a dream last night on a bunch of women competing in the weirdest beauty pageant. It was startling to see my subconscious pop up in the video! Some beautiful patterns here. The first time I watched one of your videos I thought you were being stingy with yourself, only keeping one per box. Then I watched some more videos and understood.
I remember removing envelopes from patterns to return to the company. I actually volunteered when I worked at Cloth World in TX, if I could keep the inserts. If you'd like to get rid of a few dozen of those type of patterns, I can use them for my class. I have my students "disect" patterns to identify markings and their meaning. Also, there are really cool ways to use the pattern and guide sheets for crafting. Love your channel. It's real, relevant and inspiring. On another point, I'm glad you had a chance to visit central PA, and the Community Aide Thrift Store in Selinsgrove. Ii stop there any time I can.
LOVED the Ned cam! And OMG that Christmas Apron and you two laughing - I about died myself. It's not the apron its the model pose they chose...I mean really? Completely getting National Lampoon's Christmas off it. Too funny! Please do more of these, I know they are a LOT of work but I do love that you go through them and the line drawings.
I have the Vogue 6711 evening dress pattern. It's one of those dresses that's on the back burner, but I can see myself wearing it to a production at the National Arts Centre. It's a perfect match to the Brutalist architecture... I vote thinkaboutit because you'll be invited to the fundraisers for the Opera's you work with??? - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
First, let me say, LOVED the Ned cam. Second, your hair looks lovely (as I thought you looked great as tired Stephanie in the last video, I think gorgeous hair Stephanie is worth commenting on) what product are you using to combat frizz? Curly hair girl here. Or shall i say frizzy hair girl? So many cute patterns!
So cool to see! I found a 1954 Vogue Special Design pattern S-4493 (size 18, 36 bust, 39 hip) in my local (NW Nevada) antique mall. What makes it special is that it includes the fabric pinned and cut out with pinking shears, left over fabric, matching zipper in original packaging, 1 yd. matching grosgrain ribbon, matching seam binding in original packaging, and an unused spool of matching thread. The fabric store receipt is also included: (3-3/4y turquoise rayon $1.95y = $7.32, 4-1/2 yd tulle $1.34y = $6.26, 2 patterns $1.00 = $2.00 for a total of $15.58 + tax $.55 = $16.13 from The Marston Company, San Diego, Calif.) The pattern was traced and not cut out (the traced pattern is still pinned to the fabric). I am not a “seamstress” and I am definitely not a size 18! But I had to buy this bundle because it is so complete, like a time capsule. I paid $25.
I worked at a fabric store in the 80s and we definitely had to return the pattern envelopes and I got to keep a ton of patterns. Sadly, they all went away when I was in college when my parents moved. I would be interested in buying lots of patterns in my size without the envelopes!
Just by chance, are you familiar with/or have you ever used the Lutterrloh pattern drafting system? In an ideal world, that would eliminate so much of The angst about sizing up smaller patterns to fit our plus size bodies. I have bought several of the systems at thrift stores and garage sales, but have yet to use them. I love your videos!
❤😂 I am a new member and I have to say I joined, just because you you Crack me up😂😂😂😅. You are also very empowering.❤🎉 to me. I "might" have to Binge ...Thank you
Laughed so much especially with the man’s Christmas apron pattern. You’ve gotta make one of those. Lol. Talk about blast from the past I had that Marie Osmond pattern with the peasant top. Did I ever make it?…doubt it. Thanks for a fun video. 😊
Re: the non-envelope patterns. I use pattern tissue as ephemera in my mixed media projects (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) so lots or leftovers of those or any misfit pieces would be easy buys for folks like me.
Having been a manager at the largest fabric store company in the US in the early 1990s I can tell you that when the pattern companies would send us the pull lists for the discontinued patterns we would receive a credit for what it cost us to purchase the pattern from the manufacturer. By that time they no longer required us to return the pattern envelopes, we simply had to count the number of each pattern that we pulled from the pattern drawers and the manager was required to throw those patterns in the trash dumpster.
I was just about to compliment how cute your hair is when you said that you did something wrong with it. (I’m still not sure why). Also, your husband is cute and he helps you which I think is sweet . clearly, he seems to like you, too. Keeper.
I am fairly new to your channel but I LOVE all of it (I may have binged nearly all your content). I also love your personality and the giggles I get, brighten my day.
I recently inherited all of my great grandmother's sewing supplies (first one to sew since, she died in 1997) that my grandmother kept shoved in the back of her closet. Not only were there rusted paperclips there were SO. MANY. rusted sewing pins she had shoved through random parts of patterns. It's very hazardous. Luckily I'm up to date on my tDAP shot lol 😅
So interesting! Regarding the patterns without envelopes - In 1975 I started working in the fabric department of a store. When patterns were discontinued we shipped the envelope back to the company and were supposed to throw away the patterns. The manager let us keep some patterns (within reason). I was also given a discontinued catalogue & cut out the corresponding information for the patterns that I kept. I don't know what I did with the catalogue, but I'd love to have it now! I still have a few of the envelope-less patterns in my stash....never used!
I worked in a fabric dept. of a department store in 1965,66,&67. Since I was so young when I started (17) the other women put me in charge of the pattern dept. We deed indeed take patterns out of the envelopes and were told to discard the patterns. Ah! NO! They were up for grabs and my mom (who also worked for this co.) and I took a lot of patterns. Don't know whatever happened to them. I still love patterns and have a lot of them. I have no idea what they reimbursed the store. Love your channel. just found it. I remember when Vogue came out with a pattern that cost 25.00!! Don't remember it selling.
I just came across your video while looking for something to play in the background as I read but no reading took place. I feel in love with the way you talk and the puns, I love a pun. But I must say I love your personality.
You are a lot of fun to watch. I even sneezed during this viewing. I always found it odd that those skirts were not as full as they appeared on the envelopes.
Right now the biggest I have found in this estate is a full bust 46”. But keep an eye on my “bust 40 and up” section on my website. You never know. backroomfinds
I talked to someone who works in book restoration about mold and she told me you need to freeze things for AT LEAST 3 days to kill the mold spores. A week is best
This is kind of a stupid thought; but i really hope for any of the patterns that are incomplete or unsellable that still have a semi complete case/illustrated front; i think itd be really cute to sell those sleeves as "prints" for people to frame and put in their sewing rooms. My grammy used to it all the time
Coverless patterns. It was easy for me 2 find pictures, of the front and the back of the envelope for McCalls 5625. What is you reason for not printing a new cover, if the numbers and the pictures match? Not judging, just asking co's i wonder. :0)
I have to wonder if Ruth sewed for Masonic groups like Rainbow for Girls, Job's Daughters Eastern Star. Some of those patterns remind me of what I have seen at Installations or grand events. Even though the patterns date from 1950-70s the dresses would be appropriate for those organizations clear into the 1990s.
Stephanie I love your program you made me laugh and I enjoy the patterns and it’s also fun when your husband joins in but pity I cannot see the materials I can only come onto UA-cam Best wishes for selling your materials and patterns

I'm 71 yrs old. I use to buy the inserts from fabric stores (in Cumberland, Md.)for ten cents because no envelope. Know that wasn't your question but always wondered why fabric stores don't do it now.
Honestly the fact that your husband sat through all of your finds and knows exactly what you like is the cutest thing about this video!
He knows you so well and is so proud about it. ADORABLE!!!
THANK YOU!!! SOMEONE SEES IT!!! 😁

Sip of water every time I hear the word "CUTE"
2 cups/500ml of water to start
And GO!
Right to the end! But I finished my water!
I think I missed a few while seam ripping.
Mr. Canada's glee... absolutely precious!
Gotta love the back and forth between Mr. and Mrs. Canada!

I love how happy her husband is that he found things he knew she would like. Excellent job, you can just see how much he loves her
In the 1970s we were tearing off the envelop tab to send into the company to reorder patterns.
Your husband is a keeper! 😁
