TIMESTAMPS:
I feel you! I'm constantly propoagating because it's so much fun, and when my friends come over, they always leave with plants!
i 100% do this too!
Thank you for making me feel less guilty about parting with some of my plants!!!! I develop these seasonal plant obsessions and buy anything with a root on it and then a year later fall out of love with the way it grows and then have terrible guilt about letting it go 😃 but it does then feel so freeing to have less and enjoy the plants you really love. You will find good homes for all your decluttered plants. Sending love to all my fellow plant lovers out there. Have a fab day everyone 🥰
that is totally normal! Especially with plants, it's tough to know how a plant grows in your home and if you like it until you've tried it out, so don't get down on yourself for falling out of love with some over time! It happens to us all 🥰
I'm downsizing too... It's hard, but so needed when it just gets overwhelming!
yeah it't tough but necessary! And feels so good once it's been done!
I'm all for a plant purge! Hobbies can sometimes lead to burnout, and decluttering helps establish healthy boundaries. 😊
100%
I’m downsizing myself… getting rid of duplicates and ones that just don’t bring joy. It helps that I have to start bringing my plants indoors because of the weather. I have to find places for my porch plants (favorites ~ the ones that made the cut 😆) so others have to go.
I feel you. Every classroom in my school just got gifted a plant from me this week. Between us they’re the plants I was ready to move on. 😊
Thanks for this video I have been feeling overwhelmed with my plant collection lately found this video very helpful❤😊
sorry to hear you've been feeling overwhelmed! hopefully you can declutter a bit and get back to a state of loving them all again! 🥰
I totally agree. YOUR mental health comes first, I’ve done the exact same thing ❤
Go Emma!! This video was VERRRY inspiring for me! Right before I turned the video on I was debating on whether to get rid of my Alocasia Poly.. it’s been nonstop with spider mites and I’m tired of patrolling it every other day. Several of the plants you were debating over I am also. My Cinnamon Opuntia is also looking sickly. No idea why. And I have a propagation from my Monstera that also seems stuck in its growth; the mama plant however, is out of control and humongous! Thank you and I love this sound quality! 💚🌵🪴😊
I’m proud of you Emma! Although some ppl frown on getting rid of plants, they’re yours & if you’ll feel better without certain plants, 🗑️is ok. Thanks for sharing Emma!
thanks 🥰
I can see where you would feel overwhelmed. I don't prop unless like a friend or my sis asks me for a baby cause I feel stressed when there is a bunch of containers waiting to become things. Don't hate me comment section but I don't like plants on poles and the work it takes to keep them happy with the moisture and waterings. I see so many moss pole builds and I'm like "You're a braver woman then I lol" I feel if you enter a room and feel streesed and not relaxed with your plants it's time regroup. :) You got this!
Great video! Enjoyed the indecisiveness with the Hoya as I do exactly the same thing!
haha I feel like it's normal 😂
Hi, here watching your video & yeah, got in the mood of doing same, I packed a box to give away (my propagations) the rest to my plant cemetery 😮 some I battled to keep them alive & don’t give me any joy 🤭 thank so much ! I feel better now ❤ have a good day ❤
I struggled with blue star fern for ages! But I found they like a dry head and wet feet, so I plant them slightly above soil height and keep the bottom really wet. The one in my south facing window does burn but the others do well in the east and west windows.
Hi Emma! Absolutely love this video, so refreshing 😊 I find it really difficult to part with plants that I don't love 🙈 but this video really inspire me😍
I love your new mic, the sound is amazing! I don't know if you can tamper with the sensitivity settings, a lot of breathing sounds are coming through. If this is not a problem for you then please disregard this 💚
I know its hard Emma and but if its a maybe, it basically means no because clearly its not a yes. You’ll have more space after getting rid of them which means more aeration for your plants and space for them to get larger allowing to see their full potential instead of having too many plants that you are not fully loving or plants that does not like your condition😊
Its very difficult but some plants will not like our condition or thats what I tell myself😂. I tell myself that I will give it a go again if I still think about it when I move…
ugh you're so right!
I'm decluttering my plants because I have a baby on the way. I can't spend hours watering them and I need to clear some space. I have given a few plants for the soon to be grandmothers so that I can take them back when we move to a bigger home at some point. I've also put plants in self watering pots so that they won't need water too often. The hard part for me is selling! It's so much work even if I propagated many of them with the idea of selling them later... I'm just too lazy to sell anything forward!
Perfect motivation to actually get things down! Selling is sooooo much work.. that's one of the reasons I haven't gotten rid of these ones so far!
Sometimes you just have to declutter and that is okay. The sound quality was very good by the way.
100%! and thanks for the mic feedback 💚
I took my big monstera deliciosa, and started 5 different cuttings and rooted them. They did great, and because every cutting had mature leaves with fenestrations, and they all grew in with split leaves. I turned one plant into three and had a couple of awesome gifts (one to one of my daughters and the other to my son).
I loved when you said (paraphrase) they're your plants now so you get to decide their fate. Thank you for the reminder! I've been clearing out plants that don't bring me joy all summer since it's too hot here to safely order any until autumn. I want space for an Anthurium Wendlingeri and a few others.
Proud of you! I am really happy with my collection, even though I still have 1 dying, 2 rescues, & 2 "why-won't-you-dies?" left. Even condensed/gave away enough to turn off one of my grow lights 🤯, which is a milestone. Now to stop being attracted to coleus like I'm a Pokemon tamer... 😅.
P.S. I like your mic except mb put it dither away from you. It catches every breath and movement you make.
haha ofc those 'why-won't-you-dies?' 😂 well done on downsizing so much! it's really a tough process!
Thanks for the mic feedback, 100% agree and hopefully that will be sorted in the next video x
Alot of people seem to have a hard time wanting to get rid of plants they no longer love. Also that is bad to throw them out. I use to sell them on Facebook Marketplace which at times get good customers just want it and pay it. While others always want to get you sell lower even though already at the lowest you can do. Oh i really love that Hoya which in the plant community they refer them dumpster Hoyas. I would have love to take that off you. I use to have 300 plants when i moved to my sunny south side windows apartment. Now i have downsize to 100 the ones i love and cherish. Also know which ones do well in my environment aswell. When i own a house one day definitely be just growing big statement plants no more just small filler plants. More easy care. I never seen cacti type plants would get mealybugs. For some reason Bonsai plants seem to get mealybugs too and spider mites which is crazy.
yeah it's a tough thing sometimes because for a lot of these, I really loved them at some point so it's difficult to accept that my mind has changed 🤷♀️ sounds like you've done an amazing job downsizing too!
I been in a declutter journey since last year. I’m now more concentrated in style the plants I love and just overall having less. This Friday my town is having a plant exchange and I’m so exited to bring some of the plants I don’t want. They deserve a nice home with someone that gives them attention.
ah so exciting that you're going to a plant swap! I hope you have loads of fun!
For the monstera, I’d take a top cut and start over. It seems to not have the best growth pattern and neither did mine until I did the same and increased the light immensely and the intermodal spacing is so compact now!
Do you know if it’s large form? The easiest way to tell is check where the leaf meets the petiole and if it has some little wavy bits OR leaf to petiole ratio which is a little harder until it’s bigger.
If it’s large, increasing light WILL significantly shorten the spacing. Small form will change a little bit with more light, but not as much as large form.
I was sold it as a large form... but will have to check for ruffles 🤷♀️ thanks for the tips
Monsteras need so much light. I have one in my sunroom which has a filtered light type roof and it has the tight internodal spacing you desire. The one I have about 3.5 feet back from my south facing window is tall and leggy (on a branch, not a pole) it developed fenestrations but nowhere near the delicacy of the one with a ton of light. Keep sending on the plants that don’t bring you joy. Your efforts at restraint get quoted to my husband as we negotiate our trips near and to the plant store. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
I have recently given some plants to my mom. I have also tossed a few. Thanks for this inspirational video! I was yelling at you to bin the plants (and cheering you on when you did) while riding my bike!
it felt so satisfying to bin those!
I love this
Feels refreshing after my crummy day! This makes my night end postive
sorry to hear you had a crummy day! Hopefully some relaxation and a good night's sleep have helped 🥰
I have grown two deliciosas huge at my work place. Both of them have had a lot of light from south facing windows and huge pots. No artificial light nor mosspoles. Maybe it is the pot size. Both started small “grocery store” plants.
Loved the video !!!
Well done for prioritising your mental health! I’ll need to do this with some of my plants when I get home from holiday ❤
yeah I know i'll feel a lot better when things are a bit clearer!
My string of turtles died and I was so upset I would love a new one your collection is absolutely beautiful xx
if you're in the UK I'll send it to ya! Shoot me a message on IG
CANT WAIT FOR THE SONG!!!!
Good sound here
Great video. I hate moss poles and avoid anything with a moss pole. Is hate too strong a word. Nope. No, it is pretty accurate. Totally over it. 😛
Yep, Monstera was the first to go and it completely FREED me. No guilt!
I’m having a similar issue with a mini monstera. It’s just leggy with minimal growth. It doesn’t seem to matter what I do it’s not happy 🤷♀️🌱
maybe it's time to move on from it then?? 🤷♀️
Could you make a video on cat safe houseplants? My partners cat doesnt eat my pothos so im not too worried she will eat others but id rather play it safe lol
🙌i love a good declutter!!!🎉
feels so good doesn't it!
Its such a good thing to reevaluate all the things that you have to take care of!
Hoping it will give you (head)space 😊
For me the downside of purging always is that I see spaces where new plants could go 😅
For the Monstera… have you measured the light it gets throughout the day?
I noticed that sometimes I thought I was giving my plants good light but when measuring I found out it was actually waaaaaay less than I thought
I try to fill those spaces in with plants I've already got before I get the urge to buy more to fill them 😅
@@GoodGrowing haha that would be the best
The sound is good.
thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!
Ive put my ferns in semi hydro and it seemed to stop them crisping
yeah I was tempted to try that but I just don't think I care enough to 🙃
@GoodGrowing then it is, as the song goes, time to say goodbye 👋 🤣
Hi Ema, glad to see the collections
The succulents need a lotttt more light I have mine under 2 or 3 of the barrina t8 bars like very close underneath the light to keep them sun stressed and chubby
the bar I have mimics direct indoor light? is that not enough?
@@GoodGrowingI’m not sure but I have mine under like 70 ish watt (full spectrum) 14 hours a daylike very close to the light too so that they can have the cute colours. Some people use those strong light panels to optimize growth which might be even better of an option. I’m sure someone would know better than me but this is what worked for me 😅
The reason your deliciosa is so small is because it's an albo. They have longer spaces and smaller leaves.
ugh... then it's defo going in the giving away pile!
@@GoodGrowing yeahhhh they technically are a “dwarf” variety ig
if you water and spray them them they would look nicer, but sometimes you gotta let them go.
I dont understand the I cant get rid of it if im not loving it mentality, I mean you just know and too much is too much
I think it's because I really loved it at one point so I'm hoping we can get back there?
Some succulents aren’t happy until they’re on the freaking Sun
haha 🙃
Nooo dont get rid of that lovely hoya .....
The mic was good in terms of consistency but it picked up too much breath and even swallowing which was distracting. I don’t know anything about sound or mics but hope that helps. Or if you’re just a heavy breather, I’m sorry, no judgement.
Hahah 100% agree! I was struggling during the edit hearing myself breathe on the p’s and t’s especially! Thanks for the feedback! Really appreciated!
may I buy your red coral cactus ? 🙏🏻 i’ve wanted one for agessss :)
Mental health first. Well done.
if a succulent starts atoliating most likely it won’t ever go back to growing normal unless you pinch it off and wait for new growth
ooh good to know! glad I binned it now! thanks!
I think your microphone is too good... I'm not sure if you're not feeling well or have a sore throat while filming but it is really picking up your breathing. You could always try pining it to your shirt instead of your collar and see how that sounds.
haha yeah I noticed that when editing... picked up a bit too much! hopefully solved that in the next video 🤞
Why don’t you just give the plants away Free? Let someone else enjoy the plant.
I do for some of them! Depending on the plant or person. My friends always get first dibs and usually for free unless it's a super expensive something (but even then I give them a good bargain)
whats up with the breathing grl hah
I mean we all need to do it. I didn't notice it but maybe it's because she's still learning the new microphone and working out the kinks
haha yeah the new mic was picking up everything! 🙃
