I use vinegar and salt. Put the dug nickel in a shallow container and cover with vinegar. Sprinkle salt on the entire surface of the nickel. After a half hour or so the date and other details will show. This only works for dug nickels and no cleaning of the surface before hand is needed. I have done this to nearly a 100 dug Buffalos over the years and have recovered the date every time. If you get a stubborn date just let it soak longer. Cheaper and more effective.
@reliclife I don't have a shield nickel to test it on, but I bet it works the same. This product is formulated for nickel only. I don't know how it would react with copper.
@@WICoinShooter that’s good to know. Thanks buddy. I’ve only ever dug one buffalo nickel so I will try it on that first. I may as well try it on the shield nickel because I have nothing to lose. HH!

Very cool. I might have to give this a try. Thanks for sharing.
Nice job! Do you think this would work on Shield nickels or large cents? I’ve dug one of each that no longer show a date. Thanks for the video!

is um a word?
LOL. I, um, guess it is to me. I, um, never noticed I did that before.
It's like yeah man. For added effect use "like um". Even better "Like um Cool!"
You would think that the hardness of nickel would prevent the ware on the date area as the remainder of the coins seem to hold up better.
