  • I thought I would try some sound clips. Please give me your honest appraisal if it is worth it and you get something from them. I am using a relatively inexpensive stereo recorder. Tascam DR-07X. It seems to work!

Ed - Really looking forward to your full review. (And appreciate discovering some new music via your sound clips)

Thanks Jeff. It was an experiment. I had to use copyright free music and the choices were limited. I am working with a European record label to be able to use their artists stuff. We will see. I am trying to sort out my thoughts on the EVO150. I should have it ready maybe this weekend.

Thanks Mike. They were copyright free clips from UA-cam's library. I am working on some legit, decent real music. I will keep you posted. Thx.

Sounds good Ed. I am ramping up to record sound/music for upcoming UA-cam vids I plan to make. I bought a Zoom H6 recorder with an X-Y mic. Ordered another mic from Amazon hoping it will arrive tomorrow.
    Fun stuff to experiment with👍

I feel like there was some background noise. Low in the recording. I am working on having access to some uncompressed music. Watch this space. Thanks so much.

@@OldGuyHifi - have you connected your Tascam recorder to your phone to record better audio while filming yourself for your UA-cam vids?

@@VintageLuxmanStereoCollector I have a pretty good USB mic I am more or less happy with. I will take your suggestion and give it a test. Thanks for telling me about this.

well, as someone said on another vid, it sounds like my headphones. Nothing wrong with trying it though. I think 'differences' can be heard to some extent, between components, but no absolute (?) info can be garnished. Is the Eve the amp as well, or just the DAC/Streamer? Thanks.

Steve, You are right about the sound. I am working on a better solution. As far as the EVO 150, it's everything. An 150 WRMS Amp, DAC, Streamer, Phono Pre-Amp, and Aux input. It does Tidal, Qobuz, Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, Deezer and Internet Radio. It is a very complete solution. Kind of the "One Box Does It All" solution. It is very compelling. I will talk about in depth in the review. Thanks for the comment and the view.

What kind of speakers are those?

    • @OldGuyHifi
      @OldGuyHifi  Місяць тому +1

Slightly modified Elac Debut 2.0 F62s. Quite a mouthful. I have removed the small grill over the tweeter, added more damping material to the box and line the cabinet with damping material called "No-Rez." I also have them placed on heavy ceramic tiles and sitting on vibration damping Sorbothane feet. Are you looking at speakers yourself? Thanks for returning.

@@OldGuyHifi Not currently. I've got one who just graduated Purdue and one that's in a local community College. Maybe in the Future. Right now the ole Polk Rti 10's are here to stay, lol. I'm currently running them with a Parasound A21 with a Rotel RC-1572 MKII Preamp, a Wiim Pro Plus through a Geshelli J2 DAC. And a older Panasonic Blu-ray with a Schiit Modi DAC. I thought the video sounded good. Great work.

Jim, Are you a Midwesterner? I am just outside Chicago. Sounds like a very nice system. I am a big fan of John Curl's designs and gear. The Geshellis are sending me a socketed J2 with the 4499 chipset to review. I should have that soon. I am looking forward to hearing it. Thanks so much for commenting. I really like to hear about everyone's set ups.

Recording any audio gear with a room mic is not only pointless, it sounds awful. The only time a proper microphone setup should be used is to compare speakers, otherwise any other audio gear sound clips should be done directly out of the component into a AD converter if needed.
Quick verification, if you play back this UA-cam sound clip on your system using your speakers, does it sound anything close to the original playback using the gear? It’s called a room mic for a reason, you hear the room not the gear.

I kind of do too. I thought I would give it a try and see. One big issue is copyrights. I had to use copyright free music and at best it is a 320Kb MP3. Some people seem to enjoy them. BTW my family is all British and got to the US via Canada.

@OldGuyHifi I came to Canada in my thirties and still consider myself English. An Englishman living in Canada.... As far as sound clips are concerned, I guess you have to go where the market takes you. I'll likely just fast forward, though.
