Hi Nicole, What a great idea. Lightfoot is worthy for a blue ribbon. But I must say all the samplers that you've showed during this year are WONDERFUL. The colors are vibrant. I would love to own all of them. Thank you Nicole ❤
Merry Christmas 🎄 Trying to choose one blue ribbon sampler from HATS is like trying to choose your favorite child! Not Possible! As a former Elementary teacher I hated contests with one winner because a child who put more effort or their best effort ever may never live up to societies favorite. But so many catch my eye and heart constantly. So Ann Thomas always brings me loads joy when I see her because I love flowers 🌸.🌸 . I hope to stitch her in 2023. She is all kitted up and ready to go. I am moving up to 40 count when I stitch her, so she will be blue ribbon worthy for me when I complete her. But each HATS sampler is special, as is each child who stitcher it. All Gods Creatures great and small. God Bless you and thank you for bringing me joy with your sampler reproductions and your floss tubes
Olwyn would be amazed, and so happy to see this, she lived and breathed embroidery. I was fortunate to do classes with her back in 2000 and visit her home.
I think all of the samplers are worthy of a blue ribbon. My husband purchased the chart from Hobby House for me for Christmas. I’m so looking forward to starting that one! Florence Mary Dickinson I’ve stitched with lots of DMC and over-dyes, but not silks.
Oh dear, it is like asking to pick my favorite grandchild!!!! I will nominate Emma and Matthew Hubbard, as these were my first HATS stitch and my first stitch on 46 count linen. Wishing you and your family all the blessings of the holiday season... Warmest wishes, Patricia
It is very difficult to choose. I have 5 in mind that are just equisite. However, I would give the blue ribbon to Bathya 1860. This is a beautiful, reversible sampler from an accomplished stitcher. Working this sampler would significantly increase ones knowledge is stitches. And it is just beautiful.
Thank you Nicola! I love your counting pins, would you give a little talk explaining them and how you use them? I think Margaret Ferguson deserves a blue ribbon. I think the boarder flowers are so beautiful. Merry Christmas!!!
Hello Nicola, wishing you and all your lovely stitchers a very Merry Christmas. My blue ribbon would go to the gorgeous Sarah Braizear 1829. She is already the 2018 Queen of the May and is a very special sampler to stitch. Thank you for another fun video. Happy stitching, Teresa
I am still fairly new to stitching. I started when I was in my late teens but only stitched for about a year. I began stitching again during the lockdown and was so excited when I found Hands Across The Sea Samplers. I love the antique samplers. These were not readily available years ago. So far my favorite is Elizabeth Furniss 1836. Thank you for sharing so much of you time and process. Happy Holiday's
I vote for Rosa Sugars for a blue ribbon. I'm amazed at her life story and it's extraordinary that she stitched so beautifully at the age of 4. Happy Holidays!
So generous to giveaway this book, and love that it is to be passed on to another needleworker. IMO, Mary Wigglesworth 1812 is worthy of a blue ribbon. I just love the brightness and flow of the design. Happy Christmas! X
Happy Christmas! Personally, Jane Fiddes is a Blue Ribbon winner! I challenged myself by using 46-count linen and Soie 100.3 both for the first time! Plus, Jane spoke to my Irish ancestry.
I love Mrs. Campbell, Oban 1805, and will be working on it in January, 2023. I love the colors and the humorous addition to needleworkers. Because of this, I believe it worthy of a blue ribbon. I love all the Hands Across The Sea Samplers, and hope to stitch many more. Thank you for such glorious charts!
My blue ribbon pick is: Hope and Love ~ Clara and Maude Pickernell 1881 a Bristol Orphanage sampler. So many beautiful fonts and borders! With so many gorgeous samplers, it was difficult to choose just one. Wishing all a very Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas to All. I love all the Samplers and the one that I would like to stitch in the future would be Sophia Doggett 1802 and a possible blue ribbon. The Blue Ribbon Sampler looks amazing.
There are so many HATS samplers that deserve a blue ribbon but my favorite is Mrs. Campbell. I have her started and hope to get her finished this year. Happy Holidays!!
Merry Christmas to all!! And especially to you, Nicola! Here’s hoping that you, Ray, the boys, and family have a healthy and happy holiday!! If I were awarding a Blue Ribbon, it would go to Margaret Beattie! What a beautiful piece! ❤️
The Blue Ribbon sampler I would choose is Memories of the Past. It is a beautiful sampler and a lovely verse. Of course all the HATS samplers are wonderful!
There are so many samplers from HATS It is difficult to choose. I think my current nomination for blue ribbon would be Anne Thomas 1854. I would love to stitch the one from the Blue Ribbon Sampler Book also. I do love the large ones!
Merry Christmas to you and yours Nicola! I have just spent a hour looking through all of the HATS sampler patterns I own. Looking at them to try to pick just one for a blue ribbon is so hard. But after looking at them ( have all you have produced except the pattern of the Uffindell sisters together and a few new ones) the decision came down to the first Sampler that caught my eye and pulled me down this rabbit hole of antique reproduction samplers. Miss Elizabeth Beaven 1835. Her border is so unique - with the animals, flora, fauna and bee skeps - along with the freehand embroidery is such a stunning sampler.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas Everyone! In my opinion the blue ribbon goes to Mary Wills (c.1750). I love the colors, birds and flowers of this sampler. These reds, blues and flowers can also be found in traditional Hungarian cross stitch embroidery.
Nicola, all your sampler reproductions are beautiful, but my blue ribbon choice would be Sarah Braizear 1829. I'm still stitching on it because I keep starting others from HATS. Sarah and Florence Mary Dickinson finishes are my 2023 goals. We'll see!
Anne Thomas 1854 receives the Blue Ribbon from me. So many ways to stitch it, in full or by pulling out a smaller motif. It’s just a lovely sampler with so many possibilities.
My vote for a Blue Ribbon is The Rose and The Giant Pear. It's so unique and it was my first foray into 46 count linen. I am having trouble convincing our dog to go outside today too!! I can't blame her though. Jacqui x
This is one of the most difficult questions I got in a long time. I have so many favourites. But the one I really, really want on my wall some day is Elizabeth Weston. She's so beautiful and definitely deserves a blue ribbon. Thanks for all the gorgeous samplers you share with us, Nicola. Merry christmas to you and everyone!
Merry Christmas to you and your family! I checked all your shop and I think that for me the one that deserves the Blue Ribbon is Elizabeth Furniss, but it was not easy to choose one!
I had a really difficult time choosing just one hats sampler for special recognition. I love so many and they have so many characteristics that make them unique. My absolute favorites are the Uffindale sisters samplers. They are both breathtaking and worthy of a blue ribbon!
It's so difficult to choose just one Blue Ribbon sampler, they are all beautiful. I feel I must choose Maria Vincenza the Italian sampler in red. I'm currently stitching her, and she is a big girl, but I sometimes get the feeling that Maria is watching me and I have to be extra careful. She is beautiful. Wishing you a Happy Christmas and Happy December stitching.
Hi Nicola, happy holidays! The sampler from Hands Across The Sea that I think deserves a blue ribbon is Bathya a reversible sampler c. 1680. It is stunningly beautiful IMO. Have a lovely week.
I love so many of your designs. It is hard to pick a favourite. The one I enjoyed stitching the most was Bathya so I have given her the number one spot. Barbara, NZ
Ann Webb 1829 is the sampler I think deserves a blue ribbon. The different motifs and symmetry catch the eye along with the bright colors. I love the large stitch sampler you have on display as well. Take care.
I love all the HATS samplers, so it's hard to choose a favorite. My current love is Anne Thomas 1854. I would choose it for a blue ribbon. Happy Holidays!
Mary 395 is my favourite Bristol orphanage sampler of all time and therefore gets my blue ribbon - with Jane Hopkins our favourite Welsh girl a close contender :) Merry Christmas Nicola - can't wait to meet you in September x
There are so many HATS samplers that are blue ribbon worthy, several of which I have enjoyed stitching. One that I have not yet stitched that I think is so beautiful is Isabella Uffindell.
Merry Christmas! Love your “Blue Ribbon” sampler and my all time favorite is “Eliza Bell Cox”. I especially like fabulous borders. You have so many lovely samplers.
Merry Christmas! For me, the blue ribbon would be for Memories of the Past. It's the sampler that sent me down the sampler rabbit hole. Once I went looking at the HATS website to see that more details on Memories of the Past, I added 10 of your patterns to my collection.
Thanks for the video! I think Mary 395 deserves the blue ribbon, it is such a tribute to the lives of the working class & impoverished people of the time.
Happy holidays to all. I hope everyone is safe and well. I would be hard-pressed to pick a "favorite child" amongst the wonderful HATS sampler offerings, so I'll simply say that the one I'm working on now, Miss Mary Ann Bournes, is gorgeous and I love her.
Merry Christmas Everyone! I would give Mrs Campbell a blue ribbon - the colors on that sampler are just so beautiful to gaze at. Maybe next year I can kit her up. She's just so striking and colorful. On day 6 of Covid so I'm hoping to be better by my husband's birthday on the 22nd or at least by Christmas. Love the story behind the book. Merry Christmas Nicola and thank you for another wonderful year.
Hi Nicola! I love so many HATS designs, it's difficult to choose my blue ribbon winner, but having seen the model for the 2020 Queen of the May - Mary Carter 1712 at The Attic a few years ago, I'd have to choose that one. Ilana Kaye's stitched piece was simply breathtaking and I'll always remember the moment I turned around and saw it. I couldn't take my eyes off of it! Thanks for this generous opportunity and have a wonderful Christmas!
Merry Christmas. I am new to Hands across the sea samplers with Lucy Barber being my first I'm going to be stitching from traditional stitches so that is blue ribbon worthy to me.
It is so difficult to choose just one of the HATS samplers for the draw! Because she is so close to my heart this week, I submit that Jane Vaughan 1724 is worthy of a blue ribbon! Thank you, Nicola, for your generosity and for your oh-so-lovely videos!
I believe Margaret Ferguson deserves the Blue ribbon as she has done stitched a beautiful design and she was only 9 years old. Such stunning work on the border and very balanced design ❤ it’s going to be my next purchase.
Merry Christmas to you and your family - I would have to say The Rose and the Giant Pear is blue ribbon worthy in my opinion...it was a very difficult choice.
It is incredibly difficult to choose one but if forced it would have to be Mary Wigglesworth. I think everyone who stitches the Blue Ribbon sampler should put their name, location and the dates they had the pattern in the front! It would be fun for later stitchers to see its travels! x
That's a difficult decision as there are so many that I love, every one I work on I love. So far my biggest challenge, learning experience and love is Bathaya. Although I am also working on Elizabeth Charlotte Cotton.
There are many Hands Across The Sea samplers that are worthy of a Blue Ribbon, however, I would select Louisa Coulimore's Bristol sampler to be worthy of a Blue Ribbon. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I have a miniature schnauzer, he does not like the rain either!
I love the story behind The Blue Ribbon Sampler. It is gorgeous and what a privilege it would be to stitch it. I feel Mrs Campbell and you deserve a Blue Ribbon for introducing me to the world of antique samplers. What an exciting world it is. Merry Christmas❣️
One of my favorite sampler is for Jane Jackson. Because of it beautiful roses and lovely motifs. The quote is darling as well. It’s certainly worthy of a Blue Ribbon. ❤❤❤
Have a Merry Christmas! Things I learned from Nicola and Bertie this year: How to make a tailors knot, so cook who knew, works great, How to twirl your needle when you thread is too tight. I am constantly doing it now, thanks. Also from Bertie I learned that it is always good to walk your dog and to always take care of them. Happy Christmas to one and all.
Afternoon Nicola, This is sooo hard to choose, so I will go with the one I am stitching oan for The Blue Ribbon Sampler Maria Vincenza Laricha 1837. I love the different borders etc and she is a red sampler what more can I say... Merry Christmas to one and all. Slangevar...
The Blue Ribbon Sampler book looks like an awesome book. Your sampler is gorgeous!!💖 There is so many absolute breath taking samplers to pick from but my vote would be Ann Tong Uffindell. The samplers are each exquisite in different ways. Merry Christmas to you & your family!!🎄❤️🎁
Oh what a wonderful story about your booklet, blue ribbon sampler! My choice for a blue ribbon goes to Jane Hopkins, which I am currently stitching. Thank you!
I would love to stitch the beautiful sampler. And I think the sampler " the rose and the giant pear " is truly blue sampler worthy. Would love the sampler book. Thank you
BATHYA from Hands Across the Sea Samplers is definitely worthy of a Blue Ribbon!! What a lively gift: Blue Ribbon Sampler. I would love to stitch her. Your stitched example is gorgeous, Nicola.
I suppose the Hands Across the Sea sampler I'm currently stitching would be my choice for a Blue Ribbon! But I'm looking forward to stitching the Mary Wigglesworth sampler next so that would be my blue ribbon choice.
I love them all, all are worthy ..Mary Snow will be the one this year. Happy and blessed and healthy and safe holidays to you and your family...God bless
The Uffendale sisters patterns catch my eye every time I browse your beautiful offerings. Just the color, balance, and overall size and proportion make them ideal. Merry Christmas to you, Dear Nicola. Our weather has been and will be nasty this Christmas, so the 4 patterns I just bought will hopefully get a lot of love...going to kit up one and get her started this 2023 with hopes of accomplishment one a year. So 😊.
I have two nominations for the Blue Ribbon award. They are Mary Wigglesworth, and Anne Thomas's Pigeons. My favorite has to be Anna Thomas. Both are beautiful.
I feel that the Hands Across The Sea Sampler that deserves a Blue Ribbon is Elizabeth Harding. I'm currently working on her and the colors are so vibrant and the silk in the satin stitches in the center of the flower border is so stunning... The sampler as a whole is just beautiful and I can't wait until I complete her!
All the Hands Across the Sea Sampler’s are worthy of a Blue Ribbon but if I have to choose one it would be My Beloved’s Gift! Merry Christmas, Nicola!❤ 12:28
Happy Christmas! Always look forward to your videos. The newest red sampler that you finished is so pretty. I think my favorite one of your samplers that should win a blue ribbon is Anne Thomas. She’s always been on of my favorites.

Such a hard choice to make, but I am going with Marion Horsburgh for a blue ribbon. I have her kitted up but haven’t started her yet.
Your samplers but the one I think is best in show and deserves a Blue Ribbon is Margaret Ferguson because of the beautiful yellow flower border.
Happy Christmas! Always look forward to your videos. The newest red sampler that you finished is so pretty.
I think my favorite one of your samplers that should win a blue ribbon is Anne Thomas. She’s always been on of my favorites.
Merry Christmas! I, Bathya would be a blue ribbon winner for me with her many specialty stitching and reverse stitching.
It was impossible to choose one but decided on Margaret Ferguson
Amazing sampler and book. I'm stitching Rose Ada Featherstone and it's my blue ribbon sampler.
