  • What a time this was haha as much as it made it more difficult, working in the rain was actually super fun! The only thing that could have made it better was if I wasn't recording anything haha
Great to have this reno done, crispy spring stripes are coming!!

Hey there Nick. The reno is going well. You certainly didn't need to top dress nearly as thick as last year as you do have your lawn really level. Question, what do you think of using rock dust as one of your preparations on the lawn before top dressing? Do you think rock dust would be beneficial?

You can't have anything coarse near the reel and bedknife cutting surface, there's basically a sheet of paper thickness clearance, and let me say, if you kiss the smallest rock, you will know it immediately. Everything needs to be extremely fine.

What doesn’t make sense to me is using straight sand then spending a fortune on fertilisers, wetting agents etc because the sand lets both nutrients and water drain through very quickly.Home made hot compost for me every single day of the week and twice on Sundays.I don’t buy the you need to top dress with straight sand to level and use a reel mower either.I have used compost now and mowed with a cylinder mower for 30+ years and can get the lawn looking like a billiard table. My compost has about 20% sand.Great work mate!!

Hey Nick, what are the round standard bushes along your back fence?
A run through on your gardens would be good. They look nice!

Who did you get the soil test done through? If you have a link for that, that would be much appreciated

They're ficus Hilli, not sure how long they were there before we moved in but have grown well the last 2 years!
