A trick with the opinel and firesteel is to use it closed when striking a ferro rod. Safe and very effective.

Fresno lense or a magnifier lense would be a great add. Outstanding kit .

With the exception of a first aid kit I have never considered marking the exterior of the smaller pouches with something to indicate their contents. I really like that idea. Keep producing excellent videos. Scott

Nice kit man, if you can't start a fire with that kit you'd have to be in the mother of all super storms lol

nice looking kit you put together there. I love seeing how people organize their kits. I realize after watching this that I really don't have a fire kit. I just have some matches and a fire rod. cool video.

Opinel knife spines work great for a fero rod because the spine is greater than 90 degrees, since it is a full flat grind. Multi-tool saw blades has the same thing. Being Carbon steel or Stainless means nothing, just the hardness and spine sharpness. Coatings will hamper fero rod striking, but Opinel knives are uncoated.

Can’t argue with anything; solid. Personally, I’d leave the Corona striker and one of those fat ropes at home. I understand that carbide is a great striker but you’ve got plenty of adequate strikers in there. I’d replace the fat rope (you’ve got enough tinder there to make thousands of fires) and replace it with a budget flashlight. A Wowtac A1S or, better, an A2S. You might be starting that fire in complete darkness. Nothing like a 1000 lumen headlamp to lower the stress of getting that fire going.

John Smith I always edc a light sonid have one on me, but not a bad idea to have one in the kit as a back up

John Smith The Corona "striker" is actually a sharpener and therefore dual purpose so why would you wanna take it out??

I’m sorry if I missed it I was kind of working while I was watching this, but I don’t think you mentioned char cloth or add a little tin in there to make char cloth. I would add that if it’s not already in there.

I thought about getting the fire sleeve before but I don’t know if it’s worth spending 20 some dollars or whatever it is because even if Big gets wet all you have to do is put it up to your mouth and blow through it super hard and it will be dry in about 30 seconds. if I had a lot of money to spend on random stuff, I would’ve bought one along time ago but I just can’t justify it when there’s so many other things that I want.

Wrap it lighter in wick and duct tape double ignition sources flint ,extra Ferro. Tin should only hold char material it holds spark longer you can make what you have in the tin with rope. break down at least one to tinder in a waterproof bag, lanyard on lighter case

You put the Bic in the holder the wrong way. The cutout on the holder should be at the same side of the lighter tab. it can hold the tab to keep the fire going without you actually keep pressing the tab.

Victor W I noticed something was off with it while filming, you may notice a pause. I took the lighter out for something and must have put it back in backwards.

    Way too much redundant stuff.
You should really lower the weight.
Why no carry some potassiumpermangante and glycerin for a very very hot chemical fire.
Glycerin can be used as a food source, potassiumpermanganate has many uses.
Also char cloth catches sparks and burns very hot

Why do you need a fire kit. You just need one fire striker. The more you know how to use things the less things you have to haul around. Maybe if you strike anywhere matches.

I definitely agree on you for the most part. People need to understand that you don't need 20 different things to make a fire but you should also know that you should at least have a couple 2-3 options because in certain conditions one thing might not work. To me personally a lot of these so called "fire starter" kit videos you see now days is just a bunch of product placement with gimmicks that are geared towards the Joe Schmos that go camping less than once every couple years. Lots of these fire tenders are stuff people can actually make themselves at home in huge bulk for a fraction of the price.
Buy back to what I was saying. Yeah these kits are a bit over kill but it's always good to have a few options. I know seasoned veterans that's been in the woods longer than my entire existence have at least 3-4 different fire starting options. As the saying goes *I rather have it and no need it than need it and not have it* .

I know it's always good to have options but some of this stuff is overkill in a waste of space and money. Mainly all those product placement tinders you have there. If you knew any better you wouldn't be waisting your money on them things. You can easily make most stuff they sell online in bulk for a fraction of the price. I mean this fire kit seemed more like a giant advertisement ad for the companies that make these products.
Also why in the world does all these "fire kits" never have a magnifying lens, cordage for a bow drill, and most importantly an actual flint and steel with a tin tinderbox with charred punk wood. I mean if all these people are claiming to be "outdoorsman/bushcrafter/survivalist" and y'all can't even start a fire with basic and primitive tools than y'all need to stay out of the woods.
