Daniel was pretty much spot on with the historical references of the era. Except for one thing and that was the child labor in the mines bit. That all was around the turn of the last century and before. FDR abolished all that in 1938 With the Fair Labor Standards Act.

In order to manipulate public perception of how recent Jim Crow and other racial laws were in place. Which was a great manipulation tactic then but an even more effective tactic today because most people’s understandings of that time are influenced by the civil rights movement. Which is why you get people today who think the problems of POC with gov. happened longer ago than it did and therefore is not as impactful to the community. Its a form of manufactured consent.
