The path is a bit individual specific, but one of the main things we look at is how it affects landing and how stable the lead leg block is as a result. We like landing from above rather than crashing or rotating into landing, as discussed in our Flatgrounds video here: ua-cam.com/video/306t3m6hXC4/v-deo.html
Fist and foremost I like what you guys do and I respect your content, and in no way I am disparaging this video, but i have to admit, your younger years video, I am not 100% sure if you are actually scalp loading, I see that your elbows are trying move back but that's not a strong load. You are loading like a long distance runner vs if you puff your front chest out and at the same time with quick elbows back, which would akin to a sprinters load, you can definitely feel the difference, hence the difference degrom vs joyce at the front foot strike. Your other ideas at the end I would agree with, which would help the quick muscle reflexes. Just my 2 cents.
I have same problem for years, and in the off-season I seem to have managed to fight it, but unfortunately the season will not happen due to the war with ᵣussia. Will not be able to check the results in the real game. Your video of what I had in my mind last winter. Thanks!
When I looked up the characteristics of fast-paced players such as deGrom, Ben Joyce, and Ahn Woo-jin, I watched this video several times to pattern scapular regression in my mechanics. I wanted to increase the velo by using the scapular regression, but I don't think it's a good way. They say that the scapular retreat did not produce good results while teaching the players. Can you explain how deGgrom and Ben Joyce use the scapular retreat to get a high velo? They are not good at English, so it is not easy to understand
Have you watched our breakdowns of their mechanics already? They're great places to start! ua-cam.com/video/cShWwxN0P98/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/Ugb6jcmQZPY/v-deo.html
Is Nolan Ryan not the model for which all should emulate? Shouldn't scap retraction be a natural function of upper body rotation at the time of unloading? Ryan didn't wind his arm back...
We can't point everyone towards one thrower like Nolan Ryan due to different anatomical makeups, mobility, etc. While natural scap retraction is ideal, some guys may not be able to get into those positions organically.
It happens simultaneously with hip rotation. Throwing arm scap retraction will occur before glove arm scap retraction and obviously before peak trunk rotation. We haven't really seen any data based on the specific point in time if that's what you're asking.
I am so confused. People keep saying you have to throw with intent to throw hard yet Degromm is saying he wouldnt throw hard if he tried to throw hard... make it make sense
Intent will only get you so far. At that point trying to get smoother and improving sequencing is going to give guys like DeGrom and Ben Joyce an extra tick. (Ben Joyce stated in our podcast with him that he focused on trying to get smoother instead of increasing intent.) That's not to say that guys don't need intent, you need to first actually try to throw hard then properly time that intent within your mechanics to not muscle up.

What a wealth of knowledge! I cannot believe the information that tread gives out for free. Easily the best place on UA-cam for pitching.
gonna do the figure 8 rocker drill tonight at training. cheers boss
Tons and tons of value in these videos!
Is there any way you could clarify maybe what the lead leg is supposed to do, like the path it needs to take?

great detail. only thing I would have asked is that you explain what scap retraction is at the beginning. great vid.
How does this extra stretch equate to injuries?
Great Video Ben! As usual.

Here's a different look at it.
great video what are some good stretches if the player cannot get into that good stretch behind the body? Mobility etc
Try this progression!

good stuff!
Sería genial si fuera en español
what were the exercises you used to help that guy turn off the front muscles
Si logro firmar va a ser gracias a ustedes!!
It's the best way how to keep pitchers from getting hurt, the answer is, MLB has to change the official low quality ball.
Awesome
