"...sometimes, it's the only thing they know about Australia... you know, kangaroos, koalas, that speech..." hahaha her humor is so spot on
I loved that speech. I still love that speech. It was a seminal empowering moment for Australian women. I am so proud and thankful for PM Julia Gillard sharing it with the world.
"Ditch the witch..." Those were certainly interesting times in Australian political history.
I’m not even Australian but as a European woman it gave me hope of a better world, and great comments from men did the same. 🙏🏻
I’ve only recently discovered this speech after 12 years. So impassioned and powerful; born of exasperation following the rank hypocrisy from Tony Abbot (along with his fellow misogynist MPs). Julia Gilliard’s blistering rhetoric is truly rare, visceral and inspirational. She ditched the script, unleashed her frustration and spoke truth with unstoppable force. It seems a pity she left politics. How the UK is waiting for an MP and firebrand of her calibre!
Due to Julia Gillard my daughter now works in politics in labour 😅inspirational woman iconic speech . Miss Julia Gillard
Fucking icon of Australia
While I don't agree with everything she stood for as a PM, this speech is so powerful! Well done!
Speaking as a fellow Australian resident in England since 1970, you are a WONDERFUL woman. I can never ever forget the horrible attitudes I became accustomed to as I grew to young womanhood. Somehow, it seemed better in England, though of course there are problems here. And everywhere. My friends wondered why I thought England was better. All I could say was that in England, I could get to the end of a sentence without being interrupted or silenced by a man! Your example is truly magnificent.
Such an inspiration, looking back on it now is refreshing.
The Skynews commentators still can't move past how much damage this speech does to them.
It get's so much publicity & forever put Abbott in the dirt.
I think history has shown who the best Ozzie pm was between these two….
I'm with her too! All the way from Chandler, AZ
Love her to bits. She's magnificent.
I remember this was the first time I ever heard that word, I was 18 and I can tell you just hearing and then learning the understanding, made me a better person… she’s goated in my eyes… ❤️👏
♥️
I'm so inspired by this woman, what a force
I still love you Julia, i just wish the men of the world had given you a better go at the top job!
Best Aussie PM
Such an inspiration
Julia gillard has more guts than other Australian politicians, Especially Pauline hanson
Remember Julia that every woman "out here" gave you a roaring cheer!!!!
The Liberal Party behaviour during you Prime Ministerial role has shamed them FOREVER!!!!
Senior women have LONG memories.
I love Julia, Sarah Hanson-Young, Lydia Thorpe and Jacinda Ardern.
❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤
in Julia Gillard we trust
You should have had longer as PM.☹️
🧡💞🧡
Hello.
While her fawning fans might have loved this moment, for many other Australians this was the moment she alienated about 50% of the voting population that weren’t interested in her feministic martyrdom. Many of those same that she lost with this speech might have admired Maggie Thatcher on the other hand.
You missed the point 👉 who cares about the voters her speech resonated around the world 🌎 recognised women's rights and showed us just how the boys club operates at the highest level . Loo what's happened since then with LNP government Christian porter case Brittany Higgins? LNP still don't respect women 😒
I'm a man, and women politicians don't have to pander to men, or pretend they are a woman in man drag (like thatcher) to be good politician. She was, as a fact, attacked for being a woman, anyone she "lost" because she got fed up of being told to sit down and take it should be ashamed of themselves, in particular those who are fathers, brothers, husbands and sons... which is all men.
@wattlebough was it "feministic martyrdom", or simply exposing Abbott's hypocrisy?
First comment
What a dumb dumb silly speech. Not exactly endorsement of Australia either
And you probably don't know what misogyny means 😅
It obviously flew over your head, honey, no matter, not everyone has the empathy or intelligence to understand it ❤
Best speech -ever, well done Julia, x
❤
