FROM THE TAYLOR WEBSITE:
"This acoustic/electric nylon-string Grand Concert from our Academy Series may be the best nylon-string guitar you’ll find for the money. The underlying design goal of the series is to make the acoustic guitar accessible to more players by bringing Taylor’s legendary playability and tone into an affordable price range. One of the benefits of a nylon-string guitar is that the light string tension is easy on the fingertips. Another inviting feature is a built-in armrest to enhance the playing comfort. Tonally, the wood pairing of layered sapele back and sides with a solid Lutz spruce top, together with the body’s internal bracing, project a warm, mellow nylon voice with crisp percussive appeal that suits a variety of musical styles and responds well to both fingerpicking and flatpicking. The onboard ES-N pickup and preamp captures that nylon character and give you additional tone-shaping control. Whether you’re a steel-string player looking to add an affordable nylon-string to your acoustic toolbox or crave a great-sounding acoustic guitar that’s easy on the hands and the wallet, the A12e-N is an option well worth exploring."

I didn't realize just how much I needed this guitar until I bought it. The arm rest bevel and narrow profile of this guitar put my hands in a slightly different playing position that I'm used to with my other jumbo concert grand. The low profile neck, the slightly narrower frets, the softer strings all make this guitar soo easy to play. That pickup brings out the natural beautiful tone of the guitar plugged in. Alex... you are awesome.
You get it! Thanks for the kind words. So glad you’re feeling the same way I am. Keep on jamming my friend. Keep in touch, please ! 👏🏄🏻♂️🏝
I have a Taylor 317e and recently purchased an Academy 12en and absolutely love it!
Very nice review. I like the way you went over the tone, volume, strings and action on the guitar. Great playing . I am going to purchase this guitar because of your video. Thank you
Yep, same here. Mine has a Golden Gate Bridge-high action :-)
😄
You can change the action by shaving the saddle and if the strings are too thick you just get a different set (most nylon strings are pretty similar in thickness, but you can reduce the tension with lower tension strings), but I agree that this is a good guitar for beginning acoustic ,jazz and classical players
I have an academy 12e that I’m learning on but I will be buying one of these.
That’s great! Lmk how it goes 🤙
I got the steel string version,, it one of the best acoustics Iv ever played no joke! Iv picked up guitars triple the price that to me weren't better
Right ?? It’s insane! Haven’t put it down since.
This is true.
It’s Gona be my first nylon string I hope I’m not making a mistake cheers from Ireland 🇮🇪 thanks buddy
I love Ireland! Only been about 3 times but it’s definitely one my favorite magical islands. Thanks for checking in 🤙
That was awesome cuz
You have a good vibe!
Thanks my friend! Please stay in touch 🏄🏽♂️
sure, my friend.@@AlohaAlex
Sounds Great.
Great review. I've been looking for a non-cutaway narrower necked nylon-stringed guitar and am leaning in this direction. A question, though. What is the scale length? You say it is 24 7/8 but the Taylor website says 25 1/2. .
Thanks! I think you're right.... it is 25.5 This is a great guitar. If you end up grabbin it, consider using my link. It helps out the channel 🙏
I have had this guitar for about a year now. It was my first classical and it is my goto guitar for practicing and playing at home.
I have 0 issues with this guitar but was looking into getting a cordoba c7 with spruce top and rosewood back and sides.
My only question is wether or not the c7 is a better guitar or not
Nice review, Brother!
DustyCowdog thanks man! How’s it in the Pacific north west?
AlohaAlex - it was sweet while there for 3 years. In Texas now. Dang ol’ job!😂
@@DustyCowdog awesome! TX aint so bad. My Dad lives in San Antonio. :)
Is there a cutaway version of this?
Sorry. There is not
Hi what is the string spacing at the bridge and sound hole??? I have chunky finger so need to know
Here it is, nearly 4 years later, and that $650 has become $850. #Bidenomics Still an awesome guitar, tho. I just ordered the steel-string version. *Really* looking forward to getting it. I've been researching for awhile, and I've not heard a bad word about Taylor's Academy line. For the price, it really seems like the best deal going right now. Even at $850 instead of $650.
Surprised to hear a transducer in a Taylor
What is the song as you played ?
Julien Fouquet til there was you , the Beatles. Thanks for watching !
AlohaAlex 🙏
hey, great review! is the fretboard good for fast work? can the body handle some percussive playing?
Andrew Murray thanks! 🙏 I would say so. The body is a little smaller than a normal sized concert guitar, but I think it could handle it, especially while being plugged in and amplified.
@@AlohaAlex thx .. I've been looking for something more flamenco style and they are built somewhat differently than regular classical .. lighter, lots of treble, percussive .. and then there's the Taylor sound system .. I think this could fit the bill
Andrew Murray rad! Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
@@AlohaAlex one more thing .. can you comment on the action? nice and low? ... of course it can be adjusted but just wondering ... there needs to be that ... you know there needs to be a shaka emoji I can use here ...
Andrew Murray I love the action on this! It’s low enough to allow for long sessions, but it keeps the tone all the way through the neck. 🏄🏻♂️🏄🏻♂️
Isnt this the 12e not the 12eN which has nylon strings?
David K Mine has Nylon strings. I haven’t tried the other one, have you? How’s the difference?
@@AlohaAlex Oh ok! My bad, I was watching this on my phone so I couldn't tell they were nylon. I'm a beginner and just bought the Taylor Academy 12 that comes with steel (non electric) after watching your video. So thanks for the help! I probably couldn't tell you what the difference was given that I am a beginner and haven't tried either yet. But I do plan to spend a ton of time practicing while in lockdown, thanks again for the awesome video!
David K awesome! Lmk how you like it
AlohaAlex Will do!
@@davidk3567 the slotted headstock is only available on the nylon version. And I believe that the nylon models are 12 frets not 14. Just ways of telling the difference in the models.
will a sound hole cover enhance the pickup sound?
I think the sound hole cover is used to prevent feedback in live situations. I’m not sure how that would effect the sound. Great question ! I’ll look into that
🤗🤗
That's a Nylon String guitar! Not built for steel strings!
Dig in, stop tickling it
I like a little foreplay first... 😂
Cuttin your beard a little too high under the chin.
